On the other hand, the results of researches, such as Vale e Pimentel (2005) and Machado (2006) among others, emphasized the importance of working with the observation and generalization of patterns to develop the algebraic thinking, which can help to overcome this problem. This situation and the suggestion help me to decide to investigate if high school students in a situation of patterns observation and generalization could construct an algebraic formulation of a general term of an arithmetic progression. To collect data drafted a didactic sequence based on the assumptions of Didactic Engineering as described by Machado (2008). The didactic sequence occurred in tree sessions with the participation of some of my students, all volunteers. For the conclusion I took into account only the results of the data analysis of 11 students present at all sessions. The results led me to conclude that, although students have expressed in natural language a formula for the general term, it was not enough to convert this result for the symbolic algebraic way / Tem sido amplamente divulgada o mau desempenho dos alunos do Ensino Médio em relação a questões de Matemática e especialmente da Álgebra.

This work assumptions that there is a Deaf culture; however, this is still not socially or academically, recognized; this condition, is essential to affirmation of Deaf rights. The main claim sustained here is a Deaf Curriculum, made up by Deaf community which the natural language applied is LIBRAS; because is a right to the deaf subject an education that recognizes and values its own difference, characteristic and peculiarities: a Deaf Culture. Current education is not able to guarantee the rights to a Deaf subject mainly because of incapacity and/or unaccepting of their own culture and identity and it’s happening because of the knowledge lack around Deaf culture. Also impacts directly on their development and specially does not supports their rights as citizens as well. To investigate this issue this doctoral dissertation presents an study from the main experts in Deaf Culture; analysis of some studies regarding Deaf Culture; theories of identity, and also of Deaf Identities and also the epistemology of Brazilian Sign Language – LIBRAS. Also it’s going to present a research in curriculum, raising the critical points regarding of pre-training, bringing issues about political rights of Deaf community, we propose the curriculum that is presented by the Deaf, the Curriculum in LIBRAS. To sustain the whole theory, looked for discuss the practice of all these ideas and reflections as well. The Deaf communities was the subject of this research and were analyzed and observed directly under the school space, choosing spaces that is prioritizing the use of LIBRAS to teaching, as the case of current Bilingual Schools (it’s offered in few places in Brazil, since it is not an offer guaranteed, schools where is being using the native language of the Deaf). It has been proven that experiences shared within of deaf community allow the Deaf to feel able and lives an own culture The deaf that grown up in contact with other Deaf, are raised to live in a Deaf reality, since that period, up to adults, participating in the Deaf movements, building up their own identity and enable to enjoy fully their citizenship, in full exercise of their rights / O objetivo central desta tese é desvelar o elo entre a cultura Surda e o currículo escolar e a importância de se trabalhar com ambos unificados como um só: um Currículo Surdo.

Methods of teaching poetry to English First Additional Language (EFAL) secondary school learners in the Shiluvane Circuit

Maake, Moloko Jane January 2017 (has links)
Thesis (M. A. (Language Education)) -- University of Limpopo, 2017 / This study investigates the methods of teaching poetry to English First Additional (EFAL) secondary school learners in the Shiluvane Circuit, in order to establish whether their teaching and learning methods equip them as second or additional language poetry teachers at secondary school level. Although English plays a significant role as a language of instruction at the secondary level in South Africa, underperformance at secondary school examinations has generated a continuous debate with many suggesting that the standards of English language competence has declined. Also the role of teachers is usually questioned whenever issues of learners’ performance are raised. The study focuses on the methods of teaching that English first additional language teachers use in poetry to instil the passion for the genre. This study was conducted in rural secondary schools. Forty learners from grade ten classes and their teachers participated. The study used qualitative approaches for gathering information through lesson observations, learners’ focus group interviews and teacher interviews at four secondary schools to evaluate the application of English poetry teaching. A case study design was used using 4 schools. This study is informed by Lev Vygotsky’s constructivist or socio-cultural theory (1978). Literature consulted points to the fact that the Shiluvane Circuit secondary teachers seem to avoid teaching poetry. This reveals that only four out of eleven secondary schools exposed their learners to poetry during their EFAL lessons. The findings also revealed that most respondents lacked interest in English poetry. Instead the learner interacting through cooperative or collaborative group work they competed against each other and believe in witchcraft should they share their learning experiences with fellow learners. The study recommended the use of different methods, such as cooperative learning, to teach poetry. Culturally relevant poems also add to the interest of the learners.

Judd, Annemarie M. F., n/a January 1987 (has links)
This field study examines the comparative effectiveness of traditional and humanistic teaching methods. In part I the origins of humanistic teaching and their relationship to Gestalt therapy are considered. The influence of Humanistic education adult learning theory is also discussed. Part I concludes with an assessment of humanistic teaching. Part II: To measure the comparative effectiveness of the humanistic and traditional teaching methods, three groups of first year students in General English classess in a College of Technical and Further Education were selected. The effectiveness was measured in terms of differences in 1. Self-esteem. 2. Spelling Ability. 3. Attrition rates. 4 Academic Results. It can be concluded that there is: No difference in measures of self-esteem between groups, on the basis of the teaching method used. A large increase in the measure of self-esteem was observed in one of the groups that was taught with humanistic teaching strategies. Spelling measures showed no significant changes in any of the groups. Attrition rates were significantly reduced in groups that received humanistic teaching. Academic results of students completing the course showed no significant differences.

Yngre elevers motivation till skolbloggsskrivande

Christersson, Theres January 2011 (has links)
Alla elever i åk 5 fick starta varsin skolblogg. / This thesis demonstrates thefactors that young pupils find motivating when it comes to writing a schoolblog. During my last teacherpractice I introduced school blogs to all the students in year 5. The studentsworked with the blogs for five weeks and I observed that the majority of thestudents really enjoyed this teaching method. I haveinterviewed 12 students in the class to find out what the factors of theirmotivation were about working in this way. I found out that the factors thatmotivated the students the most was: the importance of multiple readers, thefact that they got to do something different and exiting, to get more time withthe computer, to write, to read their classmates blogs and to play around withthe design and layout of the blog etc. Thisinformation will help teachers to understand what students find motivating aboutwriting school blogs and also to understand that we have good use of the differentpossibilities that the Internet can offer us in the way of finding new methodsto teach.
