Egner, Ruth Ann 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to point out explicitly the rather startling fact that each of these three writers in a novel which is representative of his own art and world view had developed the hunt-quest theme in a pattern and manner which are almost identical.

Halloween Horror Nights And/Or Visceral Theatre

Braillard, Patrick 01 January 2014 (has links)
Visceral [vis-er-uh l] -adj 1. of, relating to, or affecting the viscera 2. characterized by intuition or instinct rather than intellect ("visceral," def. 1-2) The above words speak to define far more than merely the word "visceral." They speak to also embody and classify a previously untitled form of theatre. Visceral Theatre: A form of theatre that uses the instinctual awareness of the audience- the audiences' perception of popular culture, societal contexts both historical and geographical, as well as their instinctual-physical aversion to danger- to cause physiological and emotional responses through the overstimulation of the senses in a non-tactile attack. For the past eight years I have been intimately involved with the creation of Halloween Horror Nights, an annual event held each September/October at the Universal Orlando Resort. The basis of the event is the celebration of the holiday of Halloween by creating Shows, Street Experiences, and Thematic Mazes in which to fully immerse hundreds of thousands of guests in various environments. This thesis will use the example of Halloween Horror nights to frame the discussion of Visceral Theatre. It will be presented through the lens of creator, designer, director, and collaborator of the entertainment offerings within the experience. It is my hope to answer the question: What is Visceral Theatre, and how HHN, as it is commonly referred to, earns the right to be defined as such. What makes this experience Theatre?

Wisdom in James: An Argument for the Discourse Theme

Liu, Chiaen January 2013 (has links)
There are many debates in the field of interpreting the book of James and there is no consensus among scholars. Some propose that this book is a paraenesis, whereas others argue for its inner coherence. On the basis of these disagreements, however, different scholars propose diverse themes for this book. This work attempts to view the book of Jams has a linguistic approach to identify its cohesion and its discourse theme. After providing a brief introduction to the understanding of cohesion based on the model of Systemic Functional Linguistics, this thesis represents a model of discourse analysis, seeking for the cohesion in this book and arguing that wisdom is the discourse theme of James through an analysis of the cohesive ties between James 3:13-18 and the rest of the discourses. / Thesis / Master of Arts (MA)

"Ukraine at the regional level" : Mapping emerging identities in Kharkiv and Slobozhanshchyna

Aleksic, Aleksa January 2022 (has links)
This thesis addresses the regional perspective in the second largest city of Ukraine, Kharkiv, and investigates various self-identification strategies with a particular emphasis on the local and regional element. A specific time period was chosen, starting with the Orange Revolution in 2004 and ending with the month before the Russian invasion in 2022, with a target group consisting of Kharkiv politicians at both the state and local levels. The study was conducted by thematic analysis of interviews, speeches and other statements mainly from Ukrainian media sources in Russian during this period. As the result revealed, identification with the region was noticeable and often manifested under certain political circumstances. There was also a noticeable national-civic consciousness, especially among young politicians in the analyzed cohort. But the themes identified in this study strongly indicate attachment to both the region and the state community as the most prominent self-identification strategy. The results lead to the conclusion that it is necessary to conduct further research not only on the regional units of Ukraine, but also their content, which will contribute to a better understanding of the region within the framework of the nation-building process throughout Ukraine.
