A Sociomusical Analysis of the Paran

Francom, Timothy David 21 August 2012 (has links)
A paran is a composed drum piece for the North Indian pakhavaj or tabla drums, and it is also choreographed for kathak dance. Paran refers specifically to a type of pakhavaj composition whose structure and compositional attributes are greatly varied. When applied to tabla or kathak, the term refers to a piece that is either directly borrowed from, or meant to imitate, the pakhavaj. Notwithstanding, it is notoriously difficult to define a paran precisely, especially those varieties found in tabla and kathak dance. Moreover, there are many, often contradictory opinions as to what these pieces are, largely because they display attributes that overlap with other types of composition. In this dissertation I discuss previous scholarly attempts to define the paran genre, various performers’ opinions on the subject, the technical execution of these pieces on the tabla, and the social trends that have contributed to the development of parans as they are performed on tabla or in kathak dance. I also analyse several compositions that I learned on the tabla in order to gain some sense of the structural, aesthetic, and compositional attributes of these pieces.

Centro de Alto Rendimiento de Tabla en Punta Rocas / High performance surfing center in Punta Rocas

Vasquez Carozzo, Mikela María 07 June 2019 (has links)
Surfing in Peru is at it´s best, we have achieved World Championships in the last years. In addition, since 2019, Surf will become an Olympic sport, taking part of the Panamerican Games that will take place in Lima in 2019. Therefore, it is necessary to have a High Performance Center in an emblematic beach (Punta Rocas), so that our athletes can perform at a cup world level. As of today they do not have the facilities to achieve a Super Competitive level. The CAR will have the necessary infrastructure and the best facilities to train and guide athletes to a high level of competitiveness. This center will contain areas of accommodation, training, competition, administration, medical center and an area open to the public. The center seeks to generate spaces of relationship between athletes, the public in general, and private spaces for themselves. / Tesis

Moya i Mitjans, Àngel 24 February 1993 (has links)
The results of a new Head Up Tilt Test protocol ("Vall d'Hebron" protocol), performed in 177 patients with syncope of unknown origin and in 18 healthy individuals without previous syncopal episodes (control group) are analyzed. The protocol consisted in a head up tilt inclination of 75º, without drug administration during the initital 30 minutes, followed by intravenous infusion of isoproeterenol. A positive response was observed in only 1 control subject (5.5%), what means a specificity of 94,5%. Patients were classfied in 3 groups: 1) Without structural heart disease and normal ECG (N=135); 2) Without structural heart disease and abnormal ECG (N= 30) and 3) with structural heart disease (N= 12). A positive response was observed in a significant higher proportion of patients of groups 1 and 2 (N =112, [60%]), as comparted with group 3 ( N=3, [25%]), p=0,02). In patients belonging to group 1, the rate of positive responses was significantly higher in those in which syncope was preceded by prodromal symptoms or it was related to orthostatism (76,2%), as compared with those in which syncope was sudden (52,4%), (p=0,01). In patients belonging to group 2, the rate of positive reponses was significantly higher in those that had implanted a permanent pacemaker and who had recurrent syncopal episodes (92%), when compared with those with intraventricular conduction defects (23%), (p=0.0007)In those patients in which the positive response was elicited with isoproterenol infusion, heart rate during the positive response, was signifigicantly higher than in those in which the positive response was elicited in drug free phase. In those patients with a severe cardioinhibitory response during tilt test, sequential atrio ventricular pacing did not prevent the presence of hypotension and syncopeIt can be concluded that "Vall de Hebron" protocol: 1) Has a good specificicty and sensitivity. 2) The rate of positive responses depends on the clinical characteristics of syncopal episodes as well as on the presence or absence of structural heart disease and 3) In patients with a severe cardioinhibitory response at baseline tilt test, sequential atrio-ventricular pacing, does not prevent a positive response to the test.

Embodying culture : gurus, disciples and tabla players

Nuttall, Denise Irene 05 1900 (has links)
This dissertation is an ethnography about the men and women who take up the practice and performance of a Hindustani (North Indian) drum called tabla, as a way of life. Learning tabla means that percussionists must find a guru, a learned master of the tradition who will guide them in their life long study of this instrument. The relationships formed between gurus and disciples are distinctively different in kind from teacher-student relations in Western knowledge systems. The guru-disciple tradition is a very specific, culturally dependent mode of learning originating from the Indian Brahmanical tradition of religious study. Discipleship is a form of apprenticeship which offers no easy translation, philosophically, culturally or spiritually. My ethnography and analysis of tabla as a way of life is presented from my own situated perspective as a tabla disciple of two tabla masters, Ustad Alia Rakha Khan, his son Ustad Zakir Hussain and as a visiting tabla enthusiast with another teacher of tabla, Ritesh Das. I offer a multi-local ethnography which centres on tabla communities based in Bombay, India, Toronto, Ontario, Vancouver, British Columbia, Seattle, Washington and the Bay Area of California. As tabla travels around the globe, outside of India, the learning and teaching of this tradition changes somewhat in its new environments. However, learning to play tabla whether in Indian or diaspora cultures necessitates adopting Indian ways of knowing, learning and being. For those musicians of non-Indian ethnicity who become dedicated to this art form learning tabla also means learning to embody Indian cultural ways of doing and knowing. I posit that learning the cultural, as in learning tabla, begins in the body and the embodied mind. Knowing through and with the body requires re-conceptualizing anthropological concepts of culture, memory and tradition. Grounding an analytic concept of the body in the emerging critical Anthropology of the Body and the Anthropology of the Senses allows for an examination of the social as something more than cognitive and language based.

Fullá, Vicente, Navarrete, Edmundo 09 1900 (has links)

Burgos Farfán, Giannina, Zavala Barrientos, María Fernanda 06 May 2020 (has links)
Calcium is a micronutrient that plays an important structural function and participates in various processes of our body. Therefore, its inclusion in food is very important. After reviewing several articles, it was identified that in several countries the population does not meet their daily calcium requirements. One of the causes is the promotion of the consumption of plant foods as a source of this mineral without considering its bioavailability. In the first stage of the study, a review of the literature was carried out and scientific studies published in journals of four different databases were selected. The second stage shows the calcium contents in 71 selected foods from the Peruvian Food Table and its bioavailability by consumption portion. In addition, the costs per portion in markets and supermarkets of Lima Metropolitana were found. The results show that broccoli and dairy are foods that have the highest bioavailability of calcium with 61% and 32% respectively. However, the usual consumption portion of broccoli is small compared to dairy, which means that not enough of this micronutrient is obtained. It is concluded that, to meet calcium needs dairy is the best option and that, while there are some plant-based foods that can provide a lot of calcium and the cost of portioning some may be accessible, their bioavailability by consumption portion is low compared to dairy products. / Tesis
