PROGRAMA LEM: TOCAR E CANTAR : UM LUGAR DE FORMAÇÃO E ATUAÇÃO ACADÊMICO PROFISSIONAL / PROGRAM LEM: PLAYING AND SINGING : A PLACE OF PROFESSIONAL ACADEMIC EDUCATION AND PERFORMANCE

Schwan, Ivan Carlos 21 August 2009 (has links)
This work is linked to the line of research Education and Arts in the Post Graduation Program in Education, in the Federal University of Santa Maria and the group FAPEM: Training, Action and Research in Music Education. The objective of the present research was to investigate the impact of the Program LEM: Playing and Singing "for the training and teacher development, from the perspective of student teachers in music/workshop organizers. According to this objective, it is intended to know the aims of undergraduate students to participate as workshop participants of the workshops of the program LEM to analyze the relationships established between the music workshops, its training and development staff, understanding the assumptions that underlie the development of education in the workshops and also place the "Program LEM: Play and Sing" in the context of academic and professional training. The qualitative methodological approach was chosen to analyze the perspectives of seven workshop participants as the subjects of the present research. For data collection it was used the semi-structured interview, which took place in two stages: the first session on Individual (EI) and the second group (EG). Thus, data analysis was established by qualitative analysis, performed from the relationship between the perspectives of workshop participants, workshops in music, education and the development of education. From the interpretation of the background and the references about teacher training and professional development, the conception of the process of training student teachers in music workshops in the Laboratory for Music Education was developed, researching this area as a place of training and academic and professional performance. As a result, we present the "LEM Program: Play and Sing" by addressing its significance for the undergraduates, the relationship between the experiences in music workshops and training, and setting out the objectives of the workshop participants to participate in the program according to assumptions that underlie their teaching in music workshops. Still, we highlight the LEM program as a place of training and academic and professional performance. Implementing music in an integrated arts curriculum for South African primary schools

Vermeulen, Dorette 17 October 2009 (has links)
Music Education as part of the learning area Arts and Culture is far from satisfactory in South African schools. Reasons for this include a highly sophisticated and complex curriculum (the revised National Curriculum Statement, 2002); the integration of four discrete arts forms into one learning area; and teacher training which is not always reflective of the teaching profession’s demands. The study was based on a mixed method design, investigating how teachers in best scenario schools implement music as part of the integrated learning area Arts and Culture. Interviews were held with various stakeholders in Music Education, including teachers currently involved with the presentation of the Arts and Culture learning area, lecturers at universities training students for Music Education, and policy makers such as subject advisors in the Arts and Culture learning area. Data was also collected by analysing commercially available resources for this learning area. Analysis of the data obtained revealed that few teachers in the Arts and Culture learning area are qualified in more than one art form. A major concern is that music is often omitted from regular classroom activities in the Foundation Phase due to teachers feeling pressurised by multiple assessment standards in learning areas such as Literacy and Numeracy. Another finding in all primary school phases was that the time spent on Music Education was far less than that spent on Visual Arts. Learners are often involved in projects collecting knowledge about music, but seldom involved in active music making experiences. Aspects such as different ways to integrate the arts into one learning area, generalist/specialist teacher training, as well as issues concerning product, process and performance during the delivery of the arts, were also investigated. The researcher drew from all the data to design a course for teacher training in Music Education as part of the learning area Arts and Culture. Recommendations include regular in-service teacher training courses; nationwide co-ordination of teacher training programmes and the establishment of a national council for Music Education. An urgent need for appropriate lesson material in Arts and Culture was also identified, including CDs with songs and backtracks. / Thesis (DMus)--University of Pretoria, 2009. / Music / unrestricted

No. of bitstreams: 1 luciana.pdf: 979639 bytes, checksum: 7bdc24f58f796c3be179823ae3c3fa64 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-11-10 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The present work was aimed at researching the kind of preparation offered in the music teachers' graduation courses at the Universities located in the State of Santa Catarina regarding the acting in free schools of music. Other objectives of this study were investigating the conceptions the undergraduate music students, Music Department coordinators and professors have about the free schools of music and the preparation actually available at the University in relation to the work to be developed in those schools. The literature review was based on the conceptions of Perrenoud (1999; 2000) and Tardif (2002) about the competences and knowledge of teachers, and in the influence of these authors in researches that look for the delimitation of musical educators' knowledge and specific competences. The research was divided in two parts: the first one was a exploratory research, followed by a case study with qualitative approach methodology in the second part. Data collection was primarily made through interviews with focal groups, and then individually in the stage of the case study. The results indicate that those who graduated (Licensed) and the undergraduate students feel they have been prepared and are ready to work at Free (independent) Music Schools. The collected data also indicates that this kind of school is seen by the Licensed teachers as important professional opportunities that demand the kind of knowledge and competence they have acquired in their undergraduate courses. Both professors and coordinators of the Faculty surveyed believe that these degree courses can prepare the graduates to work in different contexts, including the free school of music.
