Investigating Design Issues in E-learning.

Madiba, Ntimela Rachel Matete. January 2009 (has links)

The adoption of information technology as an aid to organisational efficiency and effectiveness has a long history in business and public administration, but its application to the processes of teaching and learning in education has been relatively limited. At the dawn of the new millennium this began to change, as educational institutions around the world began to experiment with new ideas for the use of information technology. This happened at the same time that commercial organisations began to realise that they themselves could &ndash / because of the availability of IT based systems &ndash / invest in educational services focused on their own needs. It was against this background that this research project set out to study how South African higher education has incorporated new learning technologies in the delivery of programmes. The study began by exploring the emerging patterns of the use of e-learning in South African higher education. This was to establish a broad understanding of how e-learning was incorporated into the core business of universities. As the study progressed interviews with both teaching and support staff provided course descriptions which were used to expose the kind of considerations that were made in designing, developing and delivering those courses. The main purpose of the study was to answer the question: what pedagogical considerations are necessary for successful course design when using e-learning? By placing the course descriptions on a continuum developed as a part of the conceptual framework in the study it was possible to analyse the course design features that emerged. The framework and its differentiated learning designs (LD1/2/3) can be used for both design and evaluation of courses and can facilitate the use of technology in enhancing teaching and learning.

Das máquinas de ensinar aos netbooks: tradição, inovação e tradução / From teaching machines to netbooks: tradition, innovation and translation

The PROUCA is developed at the global level, but came to the schools of the city of Rio de Janeiro only in 2010, while the statewide network already had it at some schools longer. Based on authors such as McLaren (2000), Geertz (2008), André (2010), among others, from mid-2010 until the end of 2012, I developed an ethnographic research on the first school in Rio to receive PROUCA. With regard to methodological aspects, besides the systematic observation of everyday School Connects, I used resources such as informal conversations, were recorded and transcribed interviews, photographs, participation in school activities were used, in addition to collecting information on specific bibliographies and consultation on matters released by the official website of PROUCA and the One Laptop per Child (OLPC), which inspired the PROUCA site. Seek support in some of the theoretical and analytical contributions of Discourse Theory (TD) of Ernesto Laclau (2006, 2010, 2011, 2013) in order to provide subsidies for interpretation of significants that appeared in discourses that circulated in the spaces of conducting the research, relating them to the use of technology. In contact with the School, I observed the difficulties and the strategies developed to put into practice and use these devices both by the students as much by the teachers and the problems related to the production of a school curriculum that meets the current policy outcomes. These proposals are presented related to the idea of teaching innovation. So, trying to understand how this innovation performed, I focused the case of PROUCA and its discourse of digital inclusion, understanding it as a hybrid discourse that tries to fix itself as innovative.

The main objective that motivated the present study was to know a professional education policy that is linked to the regular high school, as the possibility of professionalization. Thus, the proposal of this research is to discuss the aspects of pedagogical organization of the National Program for Access to Technical Education and Employment, known as Pronatec, in the concomitant modality, in the offered units of Paraná state. First, it realizes a brief overview of professional education history in Brazil, which occurs in this modality of education from the needs of understanding the economic sector in the country, mainly in skilled labor preparation.Following, it was necessary to understand the process of professional education running throughout the professional education history, if driven to propaedeutic teaching or directed to the labor formation, also oriented to the rearticulation and the equivalence in the high school with technical education, supporting the expansion of professional formation through private entities. The central question of this dissertation is circumscribed on technicist influence of the pedagogical model adopted by Concomitant Pronatec, which is characterized by privileging labor training that promotes the economic development of the country, centered on priority attention to the labor market and less on emancipatory educational training of workers.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Carlos Eduardo Bizzocchi.pdf: 1335377 bytes, checksum: f674b9e77be816148ad3ffb66aea8f86 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-03-25 / The Primary School called "Dr. Edmundo de Carvalho" Experimental School, also known as ¿Experimental da Lapa¿ School, was one of the references in experimental education among the several experiments during the 1960s and 1970s in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil. From the educational movements which influenced and substantiated the school operations and philosophy we may find Escola Nova (New School), Escola Compensatória (Compensatory School), and Escola Compreensiva e Tecnicismo (Comprehensive School and Technicism). This paper aims at analyzing, from the perspective of educational movements and school practices, both pedagogical and from instructors, and curriculum aspects, during the time in which the school tried the eight-year continuous teaching system, in order to understand the school operation and identification. There is evidence of the new-school influence on the main pedagogical practices, whereas the compensatory school is firmly supported by actions which were developed by the general community, and especially by the students¿ families. Technicism, in turn, was applied in an appropriate and adapted manner. It had arisen from the instructions within the official educational projects, designed by the government during the 1950s, and later on applied during the years of military regime. Comprehensive School fits in the continuous and universal education model that had been claimed since the Second World War, according to which there should be no distinction concerning the quality of teaching during the second cycle (secondary education) regarding students who came from different social classes. Lapa Experimental School might be considered as an institution that was shaped in these models during the time it was studied, when the ¿Experimental da Lapa¿ Core School was established, in order to guide and coordinate the setting up of the eight-year continuous teaching system. This study is based on the accounts of its practices and data which have been collected in other researched papers.
