930 sqft of Architecture

Clark, David B. 15 October 2010 (has links)
There is no primacy to Architecture. For centuries architects have posited formulaic approaches to creating spatial environments. Bold maxims for design have defined entire periods and styles of architecture, and each subsequent postulation attempts to disprove the former by challenging its theories against imperfect realizations. Yet nearly all have the same fault; they prioritize characteristics of architecture, attempting to design according to absolutisms of thought and process. I believe this to be a dangerous mode of operation, as absolutisms can be extremely complex and difficult to grasp conceptually, let alone to manifest into realities. Reducing architecture to processes of selection, generalization, singularities, and priorities is just clever ways of dealing with complexity in an attempt to make the intangible tangible. This "reduction" and "simplification" can only hold value as a tool for the study and analysis of architecture, not its practice and execution. Although architecture is universally conditional, it has been assigned universal qualities over time in theory and practice. I believe time requires that those qualities be subject to change and reinterpretation so that architecture may maintain proper relevance, barring one constant: all qualities must exist by virtue of the others and cannot be seen independently; one quality is no more than an aspect of the others. To better explore this notion, three criteria (qualities, generators) have been identified as a measure for critical analysis of three architectural research projects. They are built from a history of pre-defined criterion, named and redefined in an attempt to elevate a personal study and practice of architecture at a period in time. These projects have a high degree of personal influence and involvement, and so this becomes in a way a self-analysis in the study and practice of architecture. The intention of this compendium is to gain insight towards a personal definition of architecture through an analysis of architectural theory and precedence in comparison to work that is reflective of personal architectonics. In time, I hope it will have continued to develop. / Master of Architecture

Bundna Positioner : Känsla och teknologi i kinbaku som förkroppsligande praktik

Engström, Amanda January 2015 (has links)
This essay explored gendered embodiement within the practice of kinbaku, also called shibari or Japanese rope bondage. The research has been done within the Swedish kinbaku community using ethnographic methods consisting of interviews with practitioners of kinbaku and complete participation observations. By using phenomenology of touch as a methodological and theoretical approach together with theories of somatechnics the intimate experiences and relationships practitioners have to kinbaku, the practice of rope bondage can be understood as processes of embodiement through affect, sensation and technology. By using this understanding of kinbaku questions are asked about how these embodied positions are gendered and further what possibilities, restrictions and potential of renegotiating these positions are embedded within the practice.

Outline of a subversive technopoetic : for a libertarian pedartgogy

Monico, Francesco January 2014 (has links)
The thesis explores the relationships between knowledge and knowing in contemporary 21st century information society, using the foundation of the Faculty of Media Design & New Media Art at the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milano as a research apparatus. This Faculty was established between 2003 and 2012, in Milano, Italy. The starting point of the research was established in the hypothesis that technics have tertiarised memory (Stiegler B., 1994), that knowledge is always founded on an ontological pessimism (Queneau R., 1933, Lyotard F., 1979) and on a perpetual process of the generation of meaning (Gadda C., 1923-29, Foucault M., 1966). Knowledge is always and inevitably linked to the technics with which it is passed on. Pedagogy becomes a questioning of the object of knowledge, which transmutes into a definition of the ways it can be visualised. This research then, setting out from a pessimistic position in relation to knowledge and truth, amplifies them to infinite possible forms and therefore causes a dual shift of philosophy towards art and of pedagogy towards hermeneutics. The methodology consisted of a textual and visual description of a territory in a cartography of meaning, seen as the relation between intuition and the way in which practices as knowledges, arts, form remnants.

Komparace změn tlaku v běžecké obuvi rozdílného dropu / The Comparison of pressure changes in the running shoes of different drop

Procházka, Martin January 2015 (has links)
Title: The Comparison of pressure changes in the running shoes of different drop Student: Martin Procházka Supervisor: PhDr. Aleš Kaplan, Ph.D. Consulting: Mgr. Aleš Tvrzník Thesis'objectives: The main objective of this thesis was to monitor changes in pressures acting on the foot in stand phase with different variables. There were some external conditions that were changed, the running speed (10, 12, 14 and 16 km/h), running technique (heelstrike and forefoot strike) and the main theme of the work, running shoes of different drop (10, 5, 0 mm). Current pressures on the foot were obtained through special inserts Pedar - X and further processed into the software of the German brand Novel. Secondary objective was to intra- and inter-compare probands with greater emphasis on intra-individual component because of the diversity of technique of each proband. One of the aims of this work was the possibility of subsequent feedback and training recommendations for these runners based on the obtained values. Thesis methodology: Probands were tested on a treadmill HP KOSMOS specialized laboratory CASRI. In each section of the sample was determined by measuring the 100 steps to the right and 100 steps to the left foot. It means approximately 90 seconds of running in one speed and technique. The prints were...
