Suaugusiųjų vertybinės nuostatos mokymosi visą gyvenimą aplinkoje / The statute values of adults in the environment of learning all lifeNarkūnienė, Žydrūnė 08 June 2006 (has links)
Informational society must give the bases of mature and independent life and to form the need to learn all life and it is connected with the values which are being formed by every person all their conscious life.
The object of the research: statute values of adults.
The aim of the research: to analyze the statute values of adults in the environment of learning all life.
The tasks of the research are:
1. to show the attitude of adults towards the learning all life;
2. to highlight the statute values of studying adults;
3. to analyze the statute values of studying adults.
Methods used in the research:
1. The analysis of the scientific, methodological literature and documents;
2. The collection of data: open questionnaire;
3. The analysis of data: quality content analysis;
4. Sample selection: objective and criteria selection methods.
The education as a constant and all life lasting learning process is discussed in the theoretical part of the work.
The quality research is presented in the practical part of the work, where the learning adults and the lecturers working with the adults were questioned in order to determine their statute values in the environment of learning all life.
The conclusions are:
1. 1. The education of adults takes place in the formal and informal system of learning. The continuous learning supplements the formal and the informal learning with the spontaneous learning, the environment that stimulates to learn and the inside-need to learn.
2. A new... [to full text]

Wavelength-Preserving Polarization-Insensitive All-Optical 3R Regenerator Based on Self- and Cross-Phase Modulation and Offset Filtering Utilizing Raman AmplificationCHUNG, SUNG HAN 19 October 2009 (has links)
Optical regeneration has the potential to significantly increase the reach of long-haul transmission systems. In this thesis, wavelength-preserving polarization-insensitive all-optical 3R regeneration is investigated and demonstrated for 10 and 40 Gb/s signals. The all-optical regenerator utilizes a self-pulsating laser for clock recovery, cross-phase modulation (XPM) based spectral broadening in a highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) and offset filtering for retiming, and self-phase modulation based spectral broadening in a HNLF and offset filtering for reshaping. Raman amplification is used to increase the XPM-based spectral broadening and thus allow a design that meets the tradeoffs involved in simultaneously achieving good retiming and reshaping performance. The regenerator is shown to reduce amplitude noise and timing jitter while not causing a BER penalty. To fully validate the regeneration scheme, the cascadability is demonstrated using a recirculating loop. For a 10 Gb/s signal, with a regenerator spacing of 240 km, a return-to-zero, on-off-keyed (RZ-OOK) signal was transmitted over 18,000 km (75 loops) with a power penalty of 1.6 dB at a BER of 1E-9 compared to the back-to-back case. For a 40 Gb/s signal, with a regenerator spacing of 80 km, a RZ-OOK signal was transmitted over 8,000 km (100 loops) with a power penalty of 1.2 dB. In addition, all-optical 3R regeneration is demonstrated using a multimode quantum-dot Fabry Petot laser with ultra-low timing jitter. / Thesis (Ph.D, Electrical & Computer Engineering) -- Queen's University, 2009-10-19 14:11:53.826

All-fiber modulators for laser applicationsMalmström, Mikael January 2012 (has links)
The objective of this thesis was to explore the usefulness of all-fiber modulators for laser applications. The modulators were all based on refractive index change achieved in the core of the studied fiber- components, exploiting either the elasto-optic effect or the electro-optic effect. This was realized with the aid of electrodes inside the fiber cladding close to the core that provided either thermal stress in the core, or an electric field across the core. The electrodes consisted of low melting-point alloys, such as BiSn and AuSn, which were pushed into the hole-fiber, in the liquid state, which then solidified to form solid electrodes filling the entire hole. Together with an analyzer such as a polarizer or an interferometer the achieved refractive index modulation in the core could then be translated into an amplitude modulation of the guided light, which was subsequently utilized for switching fiber-lasers to generate cavity dumped, Q-switched, or mode-locked pulses. The fast rise/fall-time of a few nanoseconds for the elasto-optic devices was due to the fast thermal expansion of the electrodes. The maximum repetition rate, however, was limited to a few tens of kHz, due to the slow thermal processes for dissipation of the applied energy. The electro-optic fiber components, which displayed similar rise/fall-times on the other hand, showed a much higher cut-off frequency of 16 MHz. The electro-optic, all-fiber switch was also employed to select single pulses at 1 MHz repetition rate out of a 7 MHz train of pulses. Additionally, simulations using the finite element method were performed in order to gain insight and to explain the underlying processes of the observed response of a long-period grating written in a 2-hole fiber with electrodes, when applying HV-pulses to one of these. The thesis shows that the studied fiber-components show great potential of becoming complementary devices with high damage threshold for all-fiber laser applications in the future. /
QC 20121129
