A ‘Corrida de Revezamento do Fogo Simbólico da Pátria’ – CFS – é uma prática cultural que marca o início das comemorações da ‘Semana da Pátria’ em Porto Alegre no final da década de 1930. A partir de 1938, a CFS foi editada anualmente pela Liga de Defesa Nacional (LDN) com o apoio de dirigentes esportivos porto-alegrenses. Foram esses dirigentes que idealizaram a CFS em Porto Alegre, após assistirem a “Corrida de Revezamento da Chama Olímpica” na cerimônia de abertura dos Jogos Olímpicos de Berlim em 1936. Este estudo busca compreender a participação dos clubes esportivos porto-alegrenses na construção de representações da identidade nacional brasileira através da invenção da ‘Corrida de Revezamento do Fogo Simbólico da Pátria’ no período de 1938 a 1947. Para tanto, utilizaram-se fontes impressas e orais. As fontes impressas primárias se restringem aos documentos e obras da LDN; entre as principais fontes impressas secundárias estão a Revista do Globo e o jornal Correio do Povo. Foram realizadas duas entrevistas que constituem as fontes orais. A Corrida de Revezamento do Fogo Simbólico da Pátria (1938-1947) foi uma tradição inventada em Porto Alegre, institucionalizada pela LDN com o apoio social feito pelos clubes esportivos. A justificativa de sua realização se deu através de ligações históricosagradas e sua fixação através da repetição anual nas cidades. A CFS buscava engendrar ‘valores’, associados à construção da identidade nacional brasileira. Dessa forma produziu no imaginário porto-alegrense a representação de coesão e unidade nacional em razão do formato de percorrer a nação e ter como ponto de culminância sempre a cidade de Porto Alegre. No contexto esportivo, produziu a representação de que os clubes esportivos identificados como ‘estrangeiros’ foram ‘abrasileirados’ devido à participação de dirigentes esportivos e atletas na CFS. / The 'Nation Torch Relay' – NTR – it is a cultural practice that marks the beginning of the celebrations from 'Nation’s Week’ in Porto Alegre city by the 1930's end. From 1938, the NTR has annually been edited by the National Defense League (NDL) with portoalegrenses sports leaders support. There were those leaders who idealized the NTR in Porto Alegre, after they watched the "Olympic Torch Relay" at Berlin Olympic Games opening ceremony in 1936. This study aims to understand the participation of portoalegrenses sports clubs in the construction of representations from the Brazilian national identity through the invention of the 'Nation Torch Relay' in the period from 1938 to 1947. For this purpose, printed and oral sources were used. The printed primary sources are limited to NDL’s documents and works; among the main printed secondary sources are Globo’s Magazine and Correio do Povo newspaper. There were two interviews, which are the oral sources. The ‘Nation Torch Relay’ (1938-1947) was an invented tradition in Porto Alegre city, institutionalized by NDL with social support from the city’s sports clubs. The justification of its achievement was made by historical and sacred’s links and its fixation through annual repetition in the cities. The NTR aimed to pass 'values'; and they were associated to the construction of Brazilian national identity. Thus, it produced in the porto-alegrense imagination, the representation of national cohesion and unity because of the way it roams about the nation and has as a point of culmination Porto Alegre city. In the sports context, it produced the representation that sports clubs identified, as 'foreigners', were 'adopted Brazilian ways and manners' due to athletes and sports leaders participation in the NTR.

To reach this goal the following literature background were raised: sport sponsorship, which can be comprehended as when an enterprise allocate resources directly or indirectly into an athlete, competition, teams or sports organizations; co-branding which’s when both brands explore their similar elements, or together build a new concept; as well as other things such as doping cases and their influences into the area. Then it was necessary to prospect the context of the sponsorship during the Olympic Games and it’s financial aspects over the time, realizing according to the literature background that some cases tends to have more return than some others and that’s where the planning of this qualitative research which involves ZKC (Zhangkong Barbell Company) reach the needs to interview the proprietor of the enterprise, the Brazilian team leader for weightlifting during Rio 2016 and five spectators in the place where the competition were held, to comprehend their view over this sponsorship. The collected data were treated by content analysis and categorized as their occurrence. After categorizing and analyzing the data is when this research presents the spontaneous return with specialized media, which in this case was a website and in more than 100 notes published only 1, mentioned the sponsor. The proprietor of the enterprise related that they aimed to promote the brand in this event and to do it, they made a partnership with the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), that contemplated others actions such as supplies donations, which in fact happened. The five interviewed spectators (100%) did not recognized the brand as sponsor, and three of them (60%) also mentioned another brand, but also, three spectators after knowing that ZKC was the sponsor, related the brand to quality of the event. The results demonstrated that to exist a spontaneous return from this action of sponsorship the supplier has to communicate this partnership to the public, through social media or somewhere else, or even buying some other properties of the event (such as the logo of the brand on the competition material), that turns possible to the brand to appear. Other actions such as equipment donations and also promoting events are recommended. / Estudo de caráter qualitativo que teve como objetivo analisar o patrocínio de materiais da modalidade de Levantamento de Peso (LP), durante os Jogos Olímpicos do Rio 2016, buscando entender quais os benefícios esperados e os resultados atingidos por tal investimento. Para atingir este objetivo foi levantada literatura sobre: patrocínio esportivo que pode ser entendido quando uma empresa de qualquer setor aloca direta ou indiretamente recursos em eventos esportivos, atletas, equipes e organizações esportivas; co-branding que é quando ambas as marcas se unem com intuito de reforçar elementos das marcas em comum ou desenvolver novos conceitos; além dos aspectos influenciadores destas parcerias, como doping e outros casos do esporte. Para tanto foi necessário pesquisar o contexto do patrocínio durante os Jogos Olímpicos e seu histórico em valores ao longo do tempo. Segundo a literatura, alguns casos tendem a ter mais retorno do que outros e neste estudo de caso que envolve a ZKC (Zhangkong Barbell Company) entrevistou-se o proprietário da empresa e ainda, o chefe da equipe brasileira de levantamento de peso, bem como cinco espectadores in loco para conhecer as percepções deles sobre este patrocínio. Os dados obtidos foram tratados por análise de conteúdo e categorizados de acordo com suas ocorrências. Após categorizar e analisar os dados é apresentado que neste caso específico o retorno gerado com mídia espontânea no site especializado pesquisado, foi de apenas 01 matéria dentre as mais de 100 publicadas ao longo dos períodos que antecederam, aconteceu e sucederam os Jogos. O proprietário da empresa relatou que seu objetivo era o de promoção da marca e para tanto a parceria com a Federação Internacional de Levantamento de Peso (IWF) contemplava outras promoções, como a de doação de materiais para países em desenvolvimento da modalidade, o que de fato ocorreu. 100% dos espectadores não reconheceram a marca, além de 60% ter citado a marca concorrente e 60% relacionaram a marca patrocinadora ao evento. Os resultados demonstram que para haver um retorno espontâneo de mídia oriundo dessa ação de patrocínio a empresa patrocinadora deve comunicar a parceria ao público, seja por meio de interação nas redes sociais ou adquirindo mais propriedades junto ao evento, que possibilitem o aparecimento de sua marca. Outras ações como a doação de equipamentos e eventos de promoção também são recomendadas. A sugestão é de que a empresa comunique essa parceria e use isso a seu favor no momento de divulgar seu produto.

This subject is important, because all the media around the world had debated about Brazil and Rio Janeiro hosted the Olympic Games, due to the Political and Economic Crisis. By means of a longitudinal study with online survey, conducted two months before and two months after the Olympic Games with the same group of domestic tourist and foreign (n=837), the research show what is the change in country image and destination image, after the Olympic Games. The Olympic Games image and the Sport Motivation were analyzed as influencing elements in the Destination Image and in Country Image. Besides that, as the study was made with domestic tourists and foreign tourists as was posible analyze spatial distancing could change as the tourist typology as and showed some diferences in destination image and country image. There are 837 answers in total, 330 answers was domestic tourists in the first phase and in the second phase, 190 domestic tourists of this 330 answered the same questionarie. And 203 answers was from the group of international tourists in the first phase and 105 of this group answered in the second phase. All the data was analysed by the software smartPLS and the comparison was made by Test T Student. As a result of the study, the Sport Motivation had positive influence accepted in the event image, destination image and in the country image. The event image also had a positive relationship accepted with Destination Image and Country Image; just like Destination Image had positive influence in the Visit Intention. The Country Image and Destination Image also had positive influence in the purchase intention acceped by the test. Although, the country image hadn´t had a positive influence in the visit intetion and was rejected. In the end, was verified a positive change in the Country Image and Destionation Image, after the Olympic Games. The more interesting conclusion was that there weren´t change in Country Image to foreign tourists after the Olympic Games. As academic contribution, there are the analyse of the diferent impressions of Image as the change in the spatial distancing (following tourist typology) and the Sport Motivation influencing the Destination Image and Country Image. Besides the result, there were a management contribution, because the results could be the reason to host the Olympic Games due to the change in the Destination Image after the Olympic Game. Also, the research showed an Olympic Games operating model. / Este estudo avalia o impacto dos Jogos Olímpicos de 2016 do Rio de Janeiro, na imagem do destino, do país, e consequentemente na intenção de visita à cidade e na compra de produtos produzidos no Brasil. O tema é contemporâneo, já que as mídias em todo mundo discutiram o fato de o Brasil e o Rio de Janeiro sediarem os Jogos Olímpicos do Rio em 2016, isso por causa da crise política e financeira do país. A partir de uma pesquisa longitudinal, com questionário on-line aplicado dois meses antes e dois meses após os Jogos Olímpicos com os mesmos turistas domésticos e turistas estrangeiros (n= 837), buscou-se avaliar se houve mudança na imagem do país e na imagem do destino. A imagem dos Jogos Olímpicos e a motivação para o esporte foram analisados como agentes influenciadores na imagem do destino e do país. Com este estudo, ao promover uma pesquisa com os turistas domésticos e estrangeiros analisou-se, de acordo com o distanciamento espacial, se houve diferença na avaliação da imagem do destino e do país. Foram 837 respondentes no total, sendo 330 respondentes de turistas domésticos na primeira fase, desses 190 participaram da segunda fase. Já nos turistas internacionais, obteve-se 203 respondentes na primeira fase e 105 desses turistas voltaram a participar na segunda fase da pesquisa. Os dados da pesquisa foram analisados por Modelagem de Equação Estrutual pelo software smartPLS e a comparação de imagens foi realizada pelo Test T Student no software SPSS 20. Como resultado da pesquisa, tem-se que a motivação para o esporte teve influência positiva comprovada na imagem do evento, na imagem do destino e na imagem do país, assim como a imagem do destino teve influência positiva aceita na intenção de visita ao destino. A imagem do país e do destino também influenciaram positivamente a intenção de compra. Já a imagem do país não teve uma influência positiva comprovada na intenção de visita e sua hipótese foi não aceita. Por fim, comprovou-se que houve mudança positiva na imagem do país e destino após a realização dos Jogos Olímpicos. Um dos resultados da pesquisa aponta que não houve mudança da imagem do país após os Jogos Olímpicos por parte dos turistas estrangeiros. Como contribuição acadêmica tem-se a análise da diferença de elaboração da imagem de acordo com o distanciamento físico, seguindo a tipologia dos turistas e a influência da motivação com o esporte na imagem do destino e do país. De acordo com o resultado cria-se uma contribuição gerencial, já que fornece uma justificativa para sediar os Jogos Olímpicos pela melhoria de imagem.

A cooperação descentralizada, protagonizada por atores subnacionais, no âmbito da preparação e da realização dos Jogos Olímpicos e no que diz respeito à aplicação de políticas públicas, pode ser fonte de uma série de benefícios à cidade-sede do megaevento esportivo. Este breve policy paper, a partir de um estudo de caso baseado na experiência da cidade de Barcelona em 1992, busca revelar a problematização do caso da capital catalã para termos elementos que nos mostrem como o Rio de Janeiro e o Brasil, em certa medida, podem beneficiar-se de um grande evento como as Olimpíadas, considerando as diferenças sociais, políticas, econômicas e culturais entre as cidades analisadas. Teceremos um breve estudo da cooperação descentralizada e seus efeitos para Barcelona e para a Espanha, atentando à coordenação entre o poder local e o poder central na aplicação de políticas públicas. Finalmente, faremos considerações que podem nos proporcionar possíveis alternativas de bons resultados em vários âmbitos quanto à organização do Rio 2016. / The decentralized cooperation, carried out by subnational actors in the scope of the preparation and coming together of the Olympic Games and with regard to the implementation of public policies, can be a source of a lot of benefits to the host city of the megaevent. This brief policy paper, derived from a case study based on the experience of the city of Barcelona in 1992, seeks to analyse the case of the Catalan capital in order to have elements that show us how Rio de Janeiro and Brazil may benefit from a major event like the Olympics, considering the social, political, economic and cultural differences among the cities examined. First, we are going to make a brief study of decentralized cooperation and its effects for Barcelona and Spain, paying attention to the coordination between the local government and the central government in the implementation of public policies. Finally, we can provide considerations on possible alternatives that can lead to good results in various fields concerning the organization of Rio 2016.

A discussão parte do princípio de que o espaço é um produto social e não um sujeito, como algumas políticas públicas vem reproduzindo. A apropriação de espaços que não estavam vazios, utilizando os megaeventos esportivos como justificativa, sinaliza um momento fundamental do processo de reprodução do capitalismo. Tal processo traz à tona o conflito do espaço como lugar de apropriação e uso em contraposição ao espaço como reprodução de valor e de riqueza. Dentro desse contexto, a cidade do Rio de Janeiro, que historicamente se utiliza de planos de ordenação urbana de forma a legitimar mudanças espaciais em fragmentos da cidade, tem dado continuidade a esse processo nos últimos anos através da implantação dos Planos Estratégicos e da realização dos Jogos Olímpicos. Este trabalho tem por objetivo geral analisar as mudanças socioespaciais ocasionadas na comunidade Vila Autódromo, localizada no bairro da Barra da Tijuca - RJ, em razão da realização dos Jogos Olímpicos Rio 2016. A pesquisa tem por objetivo específico identificar os sujeitos sociais e interesses envolvidos no processo de remoção dessa comunidade. Para atingir tal objetivo, foi utilizada metodologia teórico-documental com base em documentos normativos e jurídicos relativos ao processo de remoção pelo qual passa a Vila Autódromo desde 1993, e também documentos fotográficos e mapas, igualmente fundamentais para a compreensão do objeto. Durante todo o processo da pesquisa, foram realizadas pesquisas de campo de caráter descritivo e analítico, com aplicação de entrevistas qualitativas e análise de conteúdo dos dados, que embasam a conflitualidade entre os interesses dos moradores, o poder público e as empresas privadas, numa tentativa de compreensão de como as mudanças socioespaciais se inserem entre o lugar, a cidade e o espaço mundial. A Vila Autódromo se destaca nesse cenário pela luta de resistência dos seus moradores para permanecer no seu espaço de vivência e convivência e na consolidação de uma comunidade que enxerga o valor social da terra e não apenas o seu valor de mercado, sinalizando o caráter de conflito pelo direito à moradia que se estabelece na cidade do Rio de Janeiro atualmente / The discussion starts from the principle that space is a social product and not a subject, as some public policies have been executing. The appropriation of spaces that were not empty, using the sports mega events as a justification, signals a fundamental moment in the capitalist reproduction process. This process brings the conflict of the space as a place of appropriation and use opposed to the space as a reproduction of value and wealth. In this sense, the city of Rio de Janeiro, which historically uses urban development plans in order to legitimize spatial changes in fragments of the city, has continued this process in recent years, through the implementation of strategic plans and realization of the Olympic Games. This paper objective is to analyze the socio-spatial changes brought to the Vila Autódromo community, located in the Barra da Tijuca Rio de Janeiro city, because of the Olympic Games Rio-2016. One specific objective is to identify the social actors and interests involved in the removal of this community. To achieve this goal, the paper uses theoretical and documental methodology based in normative and legal documents related to the removal process experienced by the Vila Autódromo since 1993, as well as photographic documents and maps, equally imperatives to understand the object of the research. Inseparably, field surveys in the Vila Autódromo and the city of Rio de Janeiro were conducted through descriptive and analytical perspectives, with application of qualitative interviews and content analysis of the data that underlies the conflict between the interests of residents, the government and private companies in an attempt to understand how the socio-spatial changes are part of the place, the city and the global economies. The Vila Autódromo stands out in this scenario for its residents\' resistance struggle to stay in their living space and the consolidation of a community that sees the social value of land and not just its market value, indicating the nature of conflict for the right to housing that is established in the city of Rio de Janeiro today

Sport and Politics: A study of the relationship between International Politics

The aim of this thesis is to understand and demonstrate the narrow ties between sport and International Relations. My purpose is to examine how Football especially is mixed with International Relations in many levels. The theoretical framework deals with the nationalism theories. Nationalism theories have been relevant only for the last two decades. Nationalism has been developed in the two last centuries with the industrialisation. It can be considered as a political doctrine or ideology. The definition of Nationalism is not obvious because there are no founding theorist or text on it. This process of nationalism induced nations to existence or self-determination. But extreme nationalism can be a danger. Nationals symbols have been created like language, food and drink, clothing, commemorative holidays, military heroes, flags, colours, and anthems. Sport should not be forgotten in this Nationalism ideology. A qualitative study of all the books have been studied carefully. The thesis is based on a long historical approach that permitted to demonstrate the links between sport and International Relations. Pierre de Coubertin wanted Olympics to bring peace and without political means, but the situation changed rapidly everything and government policies were really influenced by sports. Not only totalitarian states but also democratic ones have been using sport for their propaganda to promote national strength. It has been like a trigger mechanism, everyone has understood how to use sport for diplomatic relations and it is a safer and harmless way than a war. Then a study of national identity construction will be the second goal. Governments are now involved in sport to promote the prestige of a group. The other reason is to encourage a sense of identity, belonging and unity. Sport as a diplomatic tool can be considered like a public diplomacy to influence opinion. Football passion is shared by every citizen and helps us to understand the complexity of the world with its conflicting nations. In all this complicated situation, the Nordic nationalism is a fascinating new direction of peace and tolerance. For example, the Danes showed a festive way to support national teams that we can call a ‘sporting nationalism’.

La "médiatisation anticipative" des jeux olympiques de Pékin : une sociologie du traitement journalistique des événements futurs / The " proactive mediatisation " of the Beijing Olympic Games : a sociology of the journalistic handling of the future events

Les événements futurs, non vécus et encore inconnus, s’apparentent souvent à des phénomènes insignifiables de manière rationnelle et fondée. Pourtant, les journalistes de presse écrite annoncent régulièrement dans les colonnes des quotidiens nationaux les grands rendez-vous de l’actualité à venir. Soit autant d’événements politiques, sportifs ou culturels, programmés à l’agenda médiatique, qui n’ont pas encore eu lieu. Partant de ce constat, cette thèse aborde le processus de « médiatisation anticipative » en cherchant à comprendre comment certains journalistes du Monde, du Figaro et de Libération parviennent à donner objectivement du sens aux Jeux olympiques de Pékin, plusieurs années avant leur déroulement. A partir d’une enquête qualitative et compréhensive construite à l’aide des outils théoriques de la sociologie issue de la phénoménologie, nous avons analysé les logiques sociales et cognitives qui guident les journalistes dans leur prévision de l’événement. Il en ressort que l’anticipation de ce grand rendez-vous sportif est un processus journalistique raisonné bâti sur trois schèmes entremêlés. Le premier permet de contextualiser l’événement à partir des occurrences observées dans le présent. Le second l’identifie en le confrontant à d’autres événements passés typiquement similaires. Enfin, le troisième l’interprète par la projection d’un probable devenir. / The future events, non actual and still unknown, are often similar to meaningless phenomena on a rational and well-founded way. Nevertheless, written press journalists regularly report the big current events to come in the national dailies. It means that many political, sports and cultural events, which are media scheduled, have not yet occurred. Bearing this in mind, this doctoral thesis depicts the process of " proactive mediatisation ", which aims at understanding how some journalists from Le Monde, Le Figaro and Libération objectively succeed in giving a meaning to the Beijing Olympic Games several years before their staging. A qualitative and comprehensive study, built on theoretical tools from phenomenology based sociology, has been carried out. It enables us to analyse the social and cognitive logics leading the journalists in their prediction, which reveals that the anticipation of this big sports event is the result of a argued journalistic process built on three intermingled schema. The first one contextualizes the event from cases observed in the present time. The second schema identifies this event in facing other past events typically similar. The last schema interprets the Beijing Olympic Games by forecasting a likely future.

This work deals with the summarization of data about the conditions of qualification for particular sport branches and disciplines for the Olympic Games. The issues focus on the 2016 summer Olympics. The aim of the theoretic part is to briefly introduce the history of the Olympics, the division of controlling authorities of international Olympic movement and the contribution of Olympic Games. The theoretic part ends with the chapter about evaluation of the sport performance. As for the processing of the result part, the analysis of the documents, published by individual international sport federations. The method of controlled conversation was used for problematic questions, which appear during writing this work. The result part presents qualification criterions for all athletes, which were integrated into the programme of XXXI. summer Olympic Games. The discussion deals with the approval of my hypothesis that there are groups of sports, which had the same qualification for the Olympics in 2016. In conclusion, particular groups of sports are commented and the purpose of my work is assessed.

My diploma thesis is occupied with television processing and presentation of Olympic Games. Especially, I decided to analyse the summer Olympic Games in Beijing 2008 and Rio de Janeiro 2016. Both of these Olympic Games brought the new way of television broadcasting. Thanks to the exclusive ownership of broadcasting rights and technological advances, Czech Television has decided to broadcast on both television programs on a continuous basis 48 hours a day. The first part of my diploma thesis is occupied with the history of the Olympic Games, including their ancient civilization. From ancient history we move to the nineteenth century, when Pierre Coubertin came up with the idea to refresh the Olympic idea. After the introduction of Olympic history we will also focus on the relationship between media and sports and we also introduce the roots of Czech television broadcasting. In the analytical part of my diploma thesis we will describe the ways of Czech television processing during the summer Olympic Games in Beijing and Rio de Janeiro. This description will be supported by surveys with data of television ratings and differences between researched Olympic Games.
