Modelagem e análise numérica de variações dos parâmetros não controláveis em um sistema de trefilação de barras / Numerical simulation of uncontrolled parameter variations in a wire drawing system

Zottis, Juliana January 2013 (has links)
As with any manufacturing process, the quality of the final product must be coupled with cost optimization of the process, so you should know the factors that alter the properties of the product that may cause some unwanted influence. The drawing of steel bars is usually used to impart better dimensional accuracy and mechanical properties to the material. One of the major problems encountered in the manufacturing of axes through this process is the appearance of distortion of size and shape after heat treatment. Such distortions are directly linked to the accumulation of residual stresses generated during the stages of pre-straightening, shot blasting and drawing itself, modifying behavior and mechanical strength, residual stresses and resistance to fatigue and corrosion of parts. Therefore, this work aims to examine, through a computational numerical approach, the influence of material parameters and process the appearance of distortions in cold drawn steel bars AISI 1045, due to possible sources of residual stresses during the manufacture. The analysis of strains and residual stresses were performed by 3D numerical modeling of the drawing process, the software being used numerical simulation computational DeformTM. In order to transmit the drawing speed, the forms of grip were analyzed using a first end of the puller bar, the second wrapped with a puller moving along the bar. Since through these analyzes, it was found that as the shape of the bar is pulled up causes a reduction in the residual stress 100 MPa in the center of the bar, which is an important factor in the study of the possible causes of the distortion. As well as factors speed and homogeneity of lubrication significantly altered the profile of residual stresses in the bar. Other parameters, such as misalignment of the tool, friction differences, curvature and eccentricity of the axis of the bar were also evaluated, both of which significantly modify the distribution of residual stresses along the profile of the bar. It became evident that an efficient pre-straightening of the wire is important because the results of simulations show that the curvature with the drawing force and the distribution of residual stresses along the bar Cold Drawn Bars increase as well as the bar has some remnant curvature, for both dies with an angle of 15 ° and 20 °. Thus, these results demonstrate the high influence of the parameters studied distortions in the appearance of the final product.

Rodrigues, Ricardo Adornes January 2012 (has links)
The present work aims to understand the relationships between the mechanical properties and chemical composition of wire rod produced with SAE 1005 and SAE 1405 modified steels and the parameters of a rolling mill in order to obtain, after hot rolling, mechanical properties similar for both types of steel. The methodology involved the steps of literature review and experimental procedure DOE (Design of Experiments), with sampling of 5.50 mm wire rod produced with the SAE 1005 modified and other samples of 5.50 mm wire rod made from steel SAE 1405 modified under normal conditions of operation for evaluation of mechanical properties through tensile testing and metallographic analysis. This result created an alternative for the fabrication of annealed wire using the wire rod produced with the SAE 1005 modified, with a lower total cost of the final product.

Bioabsorbable implants in paediatric supracondylar fractures of the elbow

Mackenzie, Samuel Peter January 2018 (has links)
Background. Operative stabilisation of paediatric supracondylar elbow fractures is most commonly achieved through the use of percutaneous Kirschner wires. These implants are inert, cheap and simple to use. However, the requirement for removal and the possibility of pin site infection provides opportunity for the development of new techniques that eliminate these drawbacks. Bioabsorbable pins that remain in situ and allow definitive closure of skin at the time of surgery could provide such advantages. However, their ability to maintain fracture reduction and their effect on the growth plate has not been adequately evaluated. Hypotheses. The Acumed® Biotrak Helical Nail (a bioabsorbable fixation implant) has comparable strength to Kirschner wires and does not result in significant disruption of the growth plate or subsequent growth. Studies. Three complementary studies were performed. (1) A retrospective cohort analysis was performed to establish the prevalence of complications related to Kirschner wire fixation of paediatric supracondylar elbow fractures. (2) A saw-bone model was designed to compare the mechanical performance of the Helical Nail and Kirschner wires. (3) An ovine model was designed to assess the in vivo effects of the Helical Nail on limb growth and physeal morphology. The surgical practicalities of the device and its potential for use in the paediatric setting were evaluated. The primary outcome was femoral length six months after Helical Nail insertion. Micro-CT evaluation of growth plate thickness, percentage disruption and bony infiltration was undertaken – the first time this technique has been used in a large animal study. Traditional histopathological techniques complimented the Micro-CT analysis and offered comment on the microscopic appearance of the growth plate immediately adjacent to the bioabsorbable nails. Results. The infection rate within a large tertiary referral centre was 9.6%, which was marginally higher than previous cohort studies. Mechanical testing demonstrated that the Helical Nail had comparable strength in rotation, but inferior resistance to posterior translation, when compared to Kirschner wires. In the ovine model, the Helical Nail disrupted 3.4% of the physis. The nails had no effect on femoral growth during the six month study period. Micro-CT analysis of both the helical nail and Kirschner wire groups demonstrated multiple bony bridges, with two cases of physeal tethering in the Helical Nail group. There was no difference in physeal thickness or bony infiltration of the physis. Histopathology did not reveal any significant inflammatory or foreign body reaction adjacent to the nails. Conclusion. The Helical Nail demonstrated a number of encouraging attributes which indicate its potential. However, in its current state the device is not suitable for use in the stabilisation of paediatric supracondylar elbow fractures.

Data communication and power supply on a two conductor system

Andersson, Tobias, Toft, Jonathan January 2018 (has links)
This master thesis aimed to develop a prototype of a hardware platform which allowed digital communication as well as DC power to be transmitted over one pair of wires. The prototype was used as a pre-study for Axis Communications AB that wanted a bit rate high enough to transmit digital audio, as well as enough power to supply a set of speakers. The prototype included one circuit to send power and data (master), as well as two receivers (slaves). With this configuration data rates of up to 17 Mbps were achieved as well as an output power of 90 W from master. The data was transmitted on a RS-485 bus type, which was AC coupled to a 48 V DC bias. Because of the AC coupling, the bit stream needed to alternate, therefore Manchester encoded data, or similar, was recommended. The receiver cards included a buck converter to supply the circuits with a stable 5 V DC. The converters needed at least 10 V supply voltage to function, which gave a theoretical max range in cabling when accounting for voltage drop in the cables. For a 0.75 mm² power cord at max allowed current, this range was 500 metres per wire.
