Χαρίτιον (P.Oxy. 413 recto) : Εισαγωγή - κείμενο και μετάφραση, ερμηνευτικό υπόμνημα / Charition : Introduction - text and translation, commentary

Κίτσου, Σταματία 27 May 2014 (has links)
The aim of this essay is to present the Mime "Charition" (Introduction,text-apparatus criticus, translation, commentary) and focus on the problems that occupied the literary research and emerge through the fragmentary nature of the Mime, such as the reformation of the plot, the structure, the apparatus scaenicus. However, the dominant question is the literary claims of ''Charition'' along with references to its lingual merits, its closely related subjects and the analogies it bears with a wide range of literary texts.

Roy-Proulx, Ariane 04 1900 (has links)
This master’s thesis addresses the notion of character in three works by Quebec playwright Étienne Lepage. First, it aims to identify how this form of the theater character differs from the existing theories on the subject, in particular, Jean-Pierre Sarrazac’s "impersonnage" theory. The aim is to identify the characteristics specific to this "evolving" character, driven by the movement that negotiates its construction in a dialogue with the receiver. This study, which focuses on the analysis of the theater text, draws its foundations from the observations of the theater theorists (Szondi, Lehmann, Abirached, Sarrazac) on this crisis experienced by the character. The second part focuses on the role of the receiver in the dramatic text. The integrations of the receiver give him an active role; he becomes co-creator. The analysis of Lepage’s treatment of immediate time and open space shows how these elements contribute to the arrangement of this space for the receiver. Finally, the monologue as the only possible mode of expression occupies a significant part of this reflection on the character of Étienne Lepage’s dramaturgy. At the confluence of character studies, reception theories and identity construction, this study seeks to identify the character "in the making".

A study of Don Quixote preliminary verses and translation proposal

Giselle Cristina Gonçalves Migliari 24 February 2012 (has links)
Not only has this work been devoted to an analytical study of the preliminary verses of El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de La Mancha, written in 1605 by Miguel de Cervantes, but also a proposal of their translation attached in the end of this work. The research has taken into account different considerations about Cervants criticism. Most of them revealed how the author was worth being read as a writer and others highlighted his poems. As a consequence of the literary appreciation that had been brought up before this research, form and content are still permeating the ten introductory poems of the Manchegos narrative knight. Beyond this, burlesque elements in the verses will be referred as a way of showing relevant poetic concepts and, consequently, parameters established to support an innovative Portuguese version. It must be mentioned that the present translation is systematically based on rhyme and poetic interpretation.

Les corps dans l’oeuvre de Marivaux : approches générique, morale et empiriste / Bodies in Marivaux’s Works : generic, Moral and Empiricist Approaches

Aznavour, Clemence 05 October 2018 (has links)
If Marivaux is primarily renowned for his in-depth analysis of feelings and his metaphysics of the heart, his characters, who have a complex inner life, also have a body. In order to offer a methodical and horizontal reading of the body, we focus on all of Marivaux’s works, without distinction of literary genre or period. There appears to be no standardized or systematic representation of the body spanning all Marivaux’s works without being influenced by the context of production, but rather, various bodies whose characteristics are informed by periods and choices of writing. In order to define these generic and chronological groupings, we explore the features of the different literary genres (novel, theater, periodical, burlesque travesty, etc.) used by Marivaux and the context of his works (Homeric Warfare, the renewal of the Royal Academy of Sciences, and the growing influence of Locke’s theory of empiricism).

“Too ridiculous to be believed” – an Analysis of Fairy Tale Violence in Roald Dahl’s Children’s Fiction

Halonen, Daniel January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this essay is to examine several categories of violence in Roald Dahl’s children’s fiction, with the background of fairy tale theory. Roald Dahl’s children’s fiction has raised criticism, and the grounds of it are reconsidered in this essay. Violence is a declining feature of children’s literature, and the sometimes-excessive use of it in Dahl’s fiction is conspicuous, therefore. If Dahl’s children’s fiction is located in the genre of fairy tales, however, and the violence analysed as a device inherited from this tradition, its function and effect become clear, as shown in this essay. In a study of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1964), The Witches (1985), and Matilda (1988), I find that violence in Dahl’s fiction has three main effects; cautionary, entertaining, and cathartic effects. I also find that the burlesque quality of violence in Dahl’s work makes the charges of criticism less meaningful.
