Asks whether librarians gather administrative skills to manage the libraries nowadays. As a result, we arrive at a group of eight schools, and this three courses are above average overall supply of disciplines of managerial bias, which is 25%. Categorizes the contents of administration disciplines of courses above average according to the managerial skills - technical, conceptual and human - described by Katz as necessary for the performance of an administrator. Identifies a greater tendency to focus technical contents, followed by conceptual focus and finally the human focus. The overall result of the analysis of curriculum matrices shows that Librarianship's courses seek remedy the deficiencies pointed out in the literature, however, still do not meet the demands of a contemporary approach to library management. Highlights among the managerial skills to reconfigure contemporary libraries, the communicational competence, own of a Discursive Administration and argumentative able to open spaces for rational and consensual reconstruction of a model of library to complex societies. It's concluded that efforts to ensure administrative competence of the librarian should include their communicative competence as an essential skill, to be learned and perfected since his professional education, to formulate new models for libraries in complex societies.

Mlčeti stříbro, mluviti zlato. Rozvíjení mluvních dovedností v současných učebnicích češtiny pro cizince / Silence is silver, speech is golden. Developing speaking skills in current textbooks of Czech for foreigners

Kukrechtová, Barbora January 2016 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the opportunities for developing speaking skills in teaching Czech for foreigners at the B1 level. In its theory section, historical and contemporary approaches in language teaching are introduced with special attention given to speaking skills and communicative language teaching. Subsequently the thesis presents an overview of the present state of research in the field of speaking as a process and a complex skill and a classification of speaking activities. The requirements placed on the oral communication of the students at B1 level by the Common European Framework are also laid out. In the analysis, selected textbooks of Czech for foreigners are examined to determine what opportunities the textbooks offer for the development of speaking skills. At the conclusion of the analysis the respective textbooks are compared and improvements to existing speaking activities are proposed to meet the findings of the modern language teaching methodology.

Kompenzační strategie ve výuce češtiny jako cizího jazyka: Porovnání mluvených a psaných komunikátů / Compensation Strategies in Learning Czech as Foreign Language: Comparasion of Spoken and Written Communiques

Hlaváčková, Eva January 2015 (has links)
This thesis deals with compensation strategies in learning Czech as a foreign language and concrete realisations of these strategies in spoken and written communiques. The theoretical part is based on the current linguistic-didactic approach to learning foreign languages, which includes the communicative method and the issue of communicative competence of non-native speakers. In connection with these issues, we also deal with the area of communication strategies and present the most important theoretical concepts and classifications of communication and compensation strategies by foreign researchers. We also introduce the definition of compensation strategies in Czech for foreigners within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, which is presently a binding document for defining language competences at particular language levels. The theoretical part is followed by the empirical part which analyses concrete spoken and written productions of non-native speakers on the basis of theoretically established classification of compensation strategies designed for the purpose of research in this thesis. The data of the spoken communiques that was used for this analysis was collected from audio recordings and transcriptions of class content in various types of language courses. For the...

A case study of the implementation of the communicative approach to English second language progress testing in one secondary school in the Alexandria Circuit of the Eastern Cape Department of Education

Ssemakalu, John January 1998 (has links)
This study explores the implementation of the communicative approach (CA) to English second language progress testing in an African secondary school which falls under the Eastern Cape Department of Education. The goal of the research is to establish how teachers access, conceptualise, and apply the CA to language testing in their specific working conditions. The report of the findings of the research reveals that teachers' understanding of the CA to testing differs from that of the linguists, curriculum designers, innovators, and syllabus writers. This is caused by a combination of factors including teachers' poor working conditions, the lack of focused pre-service training and effective in-service structures for their empowennent as the agents of innovation, coupled with the poor circulation and a lack of clarity in official documents on the CA to language testing. These constraints made it impossible for teachers to implement the CA to language testing. In order to carry on with their work, however, teachers developed coping strategies by drawing, probably unconsciously, on a mixture of structuralist, sociolinguistic-psycholinguistic, communicative and any other testing practices they may have acquired during their years of service. Although based only on one school, the findings of this study indicate that for fundamental innovations such as the CA to take root, there is a need for the adoption of more dedicated, reflective implementation strategies involving proper planning and monitoring, as well as evaluation and re-evaluation of the entire process. This necessarily slow process must go hand-in-hand with a dedicated pre-service and in-service empowerment program based on consultative communication between innovator and agent; and a persuasive education/re-education approach which will encourage teachers to change their entrenched practices.

An investigation of the effective supervision and communication competence of chief student affairs officers in Christian institutions of higher education.

Wilcoxson, Douglas A. 12 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine if there is an association between effective supervision and communication competence in divisions of student affairs at Christian higher education institutions. The investigation examined chief student affairs officers (CSAOs) and their direct reports at 45 institutions across the United States using the Synergistic Supervision Scale and the Communication Competence Questionnaire. A positive significant association was found between the direct report's evaluation of the CSAO's level of synergistic supervision and the direct report's evaluation of the CSAO's level of communication competence. The findings of this study will advance the supervision and communication competence literature while informing practice for student affairs professionals. This study provides a foundation of research in the context specific field of student affairs where there has been a dearth of literature regarding effective supervision. This study can be used as a platform for future research to further the understanding of characteristics that define effective supervision.

Využití dokumentárního filmu ve výuce anglického jazyka na středních školách / The Use of Documentary Films in English Language Lessons with High School Students

Kautská, Jana January 2021 (has links)
This diploma thesis focuses on the use of documentary films in English lessons with secondary school students. It consists of theoretical and practical part; this being further divided into didactic and research part. The theoretical part covers four main areas: aims of current education and language teaching, multimedia in teaching, authentic materials in English lessons, and documentary films as a didactic tool. By an eclectic combination of the most suitable findings, approaches and methods from these areas, three complex educational materials based on documentaries were constructed for English lessons. These materials contain worksheets for students, instructions for teachers, presentations for online teaching, and a set of additional sheets and present a ready-to-use tool for English classes. In the practical part, design of the materials is described, along with their subsequent evaluation by experienced English teachers. Based on the materials design and evaluation, the overall aim of this thesis is to find out whether documentary films and lessons based on them are effective for English language teaching (where the main criterion is whether they lead to fulfilling the aims of language teaching and current educational aims in general) and what their main benefits are. The data collected are...

Využití videí s titulky ve výuce českého jazyka pro české neslyšící žáky / Using subtitled videos in teaching Czech for the Czech deaf pupils

Nedbalová, Žofie January 2020 (has links)
This thesis focuses on teaching Czech language to deaf Czech-signing children in the first five grades of elementary school. It analyses the use of videos with subtitles in language teaching. In the introductory chapters, the legislation regarding the education of deaf children is outlined, together with the terminology delimiting the target group for the thesis. The following part looks at the reasons why subtitles are added to audiovisual works, considering the language learning and the development of communication competence in Czech as a second/foreign language. Here, it is especially the reading competence that is stressed, and the process of reading is therefore also discussed here. Based on these, the thesis then lists the various components of an audiovisual work with subtitles and also the benefits that come from watching such a work. The condition for effective learning from the subtitles is the relevancy of the subtitles for their addressees. The subtitles have to fulfill certain requirements, both on the technical level and the appropriate language demands. Supported by relevant research literature, this thesis explains the time limitations of subtitles (speed of the subtitles aimed at children, minimal and maximal duration of the projection, breaks between the subtitles, etc.) and...

Rozhlasová rolová hra: možnosti a limity využití fiktivního rozhlasového vysílání ve výuce anglického jazyka / Radio role play: possibilities and limitations of use of fictional radio broadcast in English language teaching

Žďárek, Karel January 2017 (has links)
This dissertation thesis focuses on the use of drama in English language teaching. In the theoretical part the field of drama in ELT is elaborated in terms of its principles, methods and examples of practical use. Based on the outlined theoretical basis the technique radio role play is introduced. The main aim of the thesis was to identify and verify possibilities and limitations of the technique applied in English language teaching. To meet the aim of the thesis action research was used as the research design employing a range of data collection methods, e.g. questionnaires with pupils; interviews with pupils, teachers and critical friends. Content analysis was used to process the collected data and the analysis was further interpreted with the support of contextual information regarding educational setting in which the research was carried out and contextual material (lesson plans, teaching material, audio and video recordings). Within the four cycles of action research initial hypotheses, which were formulated before the actual research, were verified. The research findings show that the radio role playing contributes to the development of speaking as a language skill (mainly fluency and spontaneity of speech), improvisation skills, creativity and non-verbal communication. The main limitation...

Ekolingvistický přístup k výuce cizích jazyků a hledání příběhů, kterými žijeme, v učebnicích francouzštiny jako cizího jazyka / An Ecolinguistic Approach to Foreign Language Teaching: The Stories We Live by in Textbooks of French as a Foreign Language

Schlindenbuchová, Magdalena January 2020 (has links)
This thesis presents the link between the environment and Foreign Language Teaching (FLT) based on ecolinguistics, which defines the inextricability of the environment and language. The specific aim of this thesis is to demonstrate the importance of an ecolinguistic approach to FLT with an ecocritical discourse analysis of textbooks use to teach French as a foreign language. Using the ecolinguistic tool The Stories We Live by, the analysis aims to assess the extent to which the textbooks stimulate environmental awareness and ecological communicative competence. The research concerns two textbooks, Totem and Saison, and investigates the representation of the stories and their polarity from the perspective of deep ecology. The results show the textbooks to exhibit a general tendency towards ambivalent content. Moreover, the presence of explicit ecological reference in the content was evaluated and revealed, by the analysis, to be under-represented in the textbooks' content. The analyses are presented as model analyses for an ecolinguistic evaluation of textbooks, which could be used by teachers seeking an ecologically conscious textbook. The thesis also seeks to encourage further research into the ecological aspect of FLT, notably in textbooks. KEYWORDS ecolinguistics, stories we live by,...
