Estudo paramétrico da influência da temperatura na análise termomecânica durante a escavação em rochas salinas / Parametric study of the influence of temperature in the thermomechanical analysis during salt rock excavationGonçalves, Giancarlo de Gusmão 08 September 2011 (has links)
This work provides a parametric study to evaluate the effect of temperature in salt rock well drilling problems. These rocks show a slow and continuous strain when subjected to constant stress, a phenomenon known as creep. With recent oil discoveries in deep water, for example, in the pre-salt, where temperatures are high, the study of the influence of temperature becomes relevant, since it contributes to the increase of the creep phenomenon. The aim of this study is to perform numerical simulations by Finite Element Method, using non-linear viscoelastic models and weak thermo-mechanical coupling to evaluate, through parametric analysis, the effect of temperature during salt rock well drilling. Numerical examples are performed to validate the studies. More specifically, it is considered the problem of well drilling for oil exploration below these salt layers.

In this thesis, the thermomechanical behavior of Printed Circuit Boards with high frequency space applications is assessed. A printed circuit board is a multi-material assembly, linking dielectric substrates and copper paths. The studied PCBs are multilayers, thus drills are made through these layers with copper electrodeposited on the wall of the hole, allowing the electrical signal to go from one layer to the other. Any satellite carries embedded electronics and the PCB is the link and the support of these electronics. During the life of the PCB in space applications, important temperature changes will drive strains which are inhomogeneous in the different materials and thus will lead to important stresses, root of the observed failures. Indeed, the coefficients of thermal expansion of the dielectric substrates are different than the one of copper. For each thermal cycle, the copper undergoes thus an alternate loading. Depending on the configuration, the copper may endure plastic strain and break after hundreds or a few thousands of cycles (oligo-cyclic fatigue). These failures happen often in the copper barrels linking the different layers. Two phases are distinguishable in the thesis: a first phase in which the thermomechanical behaviors of the materials constituting high frequency printed circuit boards is assessed (composites substrates and copper), and a second phase concerning the simulations of crucial configurations thanks to the identified behaviors of the materials

advantages such as fire resistance, thermal and acoustic insulation. By virtue of being a
ligand less aggressive environment than Portland cement, its use should be encouraged and
new applications studied. This work aims to study the physical-mechanical and thermal
composite gypsum with the addition of vermiculite and waste of the footwear industry
(EVA). The development of these composites has as its purpose the production of elements
of thermal protection coating on walls. In the initial stage were investigated physical and
mechanical properties of these composites. To determine the influence of levels of EVA
and vermiculite, and ratio water/plaster in the physical and mechanical properties of
composites in the fresh and hardened were incorporated into five different percentages of
the materials with the three ratios water/plaster. A basic composition of each composite
was determined by multivariate analysis. Then the composite was optimized its matrix
modified with the partial replacement of gypsum by ceramic waste and lime and studied its
physical and mechanical properties as well as aspects related to durability. Finally they
were certain the thermal properties of composites with waste gypsum and gypsumvermiculite
waste-EVA and proposed a constructive element for use in masonry lining and
examined its thermal performance. The results indicated that the incorporation of ceramic
waste and lime into matrix gypsum of the composites improved their optimized mechanical
properties and their performance in relation to water by surface treatment. The theoretical
study has shown that proposed plates reduce the heat load incident on mansory.

Micromelt (EDG Equipamentos e Controles). A caracterização termomecânica
NiTi alloys enabled revolutionize many traditional engineering projects with

the Micromelt machine (EDG, Equipment and Controls). The thermomechanical
characterization of as received and as welded wires was performed by using
differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA)
uniaxial tensile test at different temperatures (30°C to 70°C), optical microscopy
(OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Vickers micro indentation. The
results showed a good efficiency of TIG welding for every NiTi wire studied
groups. DSC curves demonstrates that welding process can cause a
metallurgical changes into NiTi wires, promoting changes in phase transformation
temperatures. The mechanical properties of the welded wire presented a tensile
rupture strength of 750 MPa (NiTi~70 °C) and strain values up to 8.5% (NiTiA).

As
forma. / Shape Memory Alloys (SMA) are an important group of metallic active
materials that respond to thermomechanical stimuli through the Shape Memory
Effect (SME) or the Superelasticity (SE) phenomena. Both these effects are capable
of retrieving large amounts of strain by simple heating, in the former case, or simple
mechanical unload, in the latest case. The SMA of the NiTi family composition exhibit
superior properties when compared to other compositions, including biocompability,
what brings this alloy to be widely used in medical and orthodontic fields in the form
of tools and accessories to specific treatments. As an example, mini coil springs of
NiTi SMA presenting superelasticity reach strain levels hundreds of times higher than
one-dimensional elements, such as wires. However, a more suitable technique to
manipulate mechanical properties of metallic finished products is the use of heat
treatments like annealing. Mainly after experiencing cold working processes,
annealing treatments are capable of partially or totally recover the atomic mobility,
witch directly affects thermomechanical response of SMA. In this context, this
dissertation work aims to study the influence of annealing heat treatments over
thermomechanical behavior of SMA NiTi mini coil springs originally presenting the
SE. A factorial design was used to evaluate the influence of temperature and time of
annealing over some of the main thermomechanical springs’ properties: spring
constant (stiffness), shear modulus, energy dissipation capacity, phase
transformation temperatures, thermal hysteresis and transformation enthalpy
availability. It was demonstrated that heat treatments between 500°C and 600°C are
capable of converting the superelastic state of the mini coil springs to an actuator
state, as a result of the shape memory effect appearance.

Analysis of the water circuit of an integrated newsprint and thermomechanical pulp manufacturing process.Marcelo Hamaguchi 10 September 2007 (has links)
The Pulp and Paper industry has constantly struggled to solve problems related to high water consumption. One alternative is to use tools like Process Integration, where graphical methods and mathematical programming can be applied to optimize the water circuit. To contribute to the Pulp and Paper sector, the methods were applied in the present work using real process data that have been collected in an integrated thermomechanical and newsprint mill. With these data, a base case simulation was developed to initiate the analysis by Process Integration. The analysis is based on residual water reuse in other process stages under propriety constraints like contaminants concentration limits, specifically the dissolved solids and fine fibers. Differently from works presented in the references that claim that solutions found are optimized values, the results of this work show that values found by mathematical programming and pinch method are theoretically correct, however, the operational conditions of the mill become inadequate when simulated under new conditions achieved by Process Integration. The concentration limits of contaminants previously established for the methods have their values frequently exceed after recalculation by simulation, and thus, the solutions by Process Integration must be corrected before using them. So, if the predicted value for reduction of fresh water consumption is, for example, 38%, in the realistic project this value will reach only 23%, which is still a good result. The work also shows that mathematical programming is efficient to find solutions when there are multiple contaminants, while pinch method is more adequate for those cases with single contaminant.

Fadiga termomecânica em ligas de ferro fundido cinzento para discos de freio automotivos / Thermomechanical fatigue in gray cast iron alloys to automotive brake discsOmar Maluf 18 May 2007 (has links)
Brake discs are submitted to thermal and mechanical stress that can be relatively high during abrupt braking action happens (fractions of seconds), causing the temperature to reach values as high as 600ºC. This temperature variation results in thermal shocks that can generate cracks and/or a large amount of plastic deformation in the disk. The main aim of this work was to investigate, through experiments, the mechanical and physical behavior of four alloys of gray cast iron (A, B, C and E), used to produce brake discs of automotives vehicles. Low cycle thermomechanical fatigue tests were carried out in components (discs) and in test specimens, between 300ºC and 600ºC, in the conditions in-phase and out-of-phase, adopting the failure criterion of 50% drop of the maximum tensile stress (ASTM E - 606). Thermal diffusivity values were measured from room temperature up to 600oC in order to analyze the effects of carbon content and alloying elements in physical properties. Curves -N were obtained and analyzed according to ASTM E 466/468 standard. Microstructural analysis was employed to reveal the influence of the matrix and morphology/amount of graphite on the mechanical properties. It was observed that, during in-phase thermomechanical fatigue tests, the volume expansion due to cementite decomposition into graphite and ferrite caused a decrease in the tensile stress necessary to achieve the mechanical strain imposed during tests. From M/2 x 2Nf graphs it was inferred that alloy E presented the best performance both in in-phase and out-of phase tests. The lack of Mo in this alloy implies in a significant reduction of cost production of the brake discs, due to the high cost of such alloying element. Out-of-phase thermomechanical fatigue tests resulted in shorter lives compared to isothermal fatigue tests carried out at 25ºC, 300ºC and 600ºC.

Análise da vida em fadiga termomecânica de ferros fundidos cinzento e vermicular / Thermomechanical fatigue life of grey and compact cast ironsMárcio Henrique Ferreira 11 May 2017 (has links)
Internal combustion engines are subjected to thermal and mechanical loads that may result in cracks due to thermomechanical fatigue phenomenon, TMF. Cast irons have been a common choice for the manufacture of blocks and cylinder heads of diesel engines. To improve the engines performance it is important to have a clear understanding of the FTM behavior of these materials, enabling life prediction, improving the properties of new alloys, as well as increase the reliability of these components. Thus, this project aims to evaluate the TMF life of two types of cast iron used in the manufacture of internal combustion engines. The tests were performed on a MTS 810 mechanical testing system, in displacement control and 100% restriction (Δε = 0), using a highfrequency induction furnace for heating and a cooling device (conduction and convection), recording the stresses, strains and number of cycles. The thermal cycles applied have heating and cooling cycles that simulate the work conditions, in accelerated mode, of an internal combustion engine, applying an trapezoidal wave shape, with minimum and maximum temperatures of 50 and 420°C respectively, and a 180 s dwell time at maximum temperature, and total cycle time of 300 s. The results showed that compact cast iron presents TMF life larger than the gray cast iron because the morphology of graphite flakes in the gray cast iron reduces markedly their rigidity during the traction portion of the tensile part of the cycle, causing the defects formation at smaller number of cycles. The thermomechanical behavior of these two types of cast irons are discussed in detail.

Avaliação de dois diferentes planejamentos de próteses totais fixas implantossuportadas, comparando as técnicas de fabricação das infraestruturas: tecnologia CAD-CAM, fundição convencional e barra articulada / Evaluation of two different designs of full-arch implant-supported fixed dentures, comparing the infrastructure manufacturing techniques: CAD-CAM technology, conventional casting and Articulated BarRafael Cândido Pedroso e Silva 27 January 2016 (has links)
The objective of this study was evaluate two different designs of full-arch implant-supported fixed dentures, comparing the infrastructure manufacturing techniques: CAD-CAM technology, conventional casting and Articulated Bar. After thermomechanical cycling, were analyzed prosthetic screws loosening and vertical and horizontal marginal adaptation. In the end, the prostheses were submitted to tests of progressive accelerated fatigue and fracture resistance. Were made 48 implant-supported fixed dentures, which initially were divided into two groups, G1 - conventional protocol; G2 - \"All-on-4\". According to the technique of manufacturing infrastructure, these groups were divided into three subgroups: A - CAD-CAM technology; B - conventional casting; C - Articulated bar, providing six different samples: G1A, G1B, G1C, G2A, G2B e G2C (n=8). All samples were evaluated in the vertical and horizontal marginal adaptation using MicroCT before and after the thermomechanical cycling (2,000,000 cycles). The loosening of the prosthetic screws was analyzed before (T0), 1,000,000 (T1) and 2,000,000 cycles (T2). After this test, the prostheses were submitted to progressive accelerated fatigue test (n = 8) and sequentially fracture resistance test (n = 6). The prosthetic screw loosening has significant difference for all time compared (p <0.01), except in G2B where the comparison between T1 - T2 showed no significant difference (p = 0.72). The comparison between G1 and G2 was not significant. The comparison between subgroups A, B and C had significant differences in G1T1, G1T2, G2T1 and G2T2 compared subgroups A - B, B - C, all of (p <0.01). There were no significant differences for vertical and horizontal marginal adaptation before and after cycling in all groups. Compared to G1 and G2, there was a significant difference for vertical and horizontal adjustment only in the subgroup B in two stages, both (p <0.01). In the comparison of subgroups A, B and C, there were significant differences G1 before and after; and G2 before and after, when compared subgroups A - B, B - C, all of (p <0.01) for vertical and horizontal adaptation. As for the horizontal adaptation, this comparison was significant only in G2 before and after, with both (p = 0.02). With regard to fracture resistance, the comparison between G1 and G2 was significant in all subgroups, A and C (p <0.01), B (p = 0.02). The comparison of subgroups A, B and C was also significant compared to the fracture resistance of the prosthesis in all groups (p <0.01). It can be concluded that the simulation of mechanical cycling had significant influence on the loosening of prosthetic screws, but did not significantly influence the vertical and horizontal marginal fit of the prosthesis; marginal adaptation significantly influenced the loosening of prosthetic screws; the prostheses of the subgroups A and C had significantly better results for the vertical and horizontal marginal adaptation when compared to the subgroup B, and in the horizontal adaptation, the sub-group A had better results than those of C; the amount and distribution of the implants did not affect the prosthetic screws loosening in all situations, but had significantly influence in vertical and horizontal marginal adaptation of subgroup B prostheses; all samples survived in progressive accelerated fatigue test; in relation to the fracture resistance test, the prosthesis G2, had significantly better results than the G1, the B subgroup achieved significantly higher values of resistance in the cantilever region, when compared to subgroups A and C; the subgroup C obtained the smallest resistance.

Efeitos de diferentes tratamentos de superfície nas características superficiais, resistência adesiva, estabilidade da adesão e sobrevida de coroas/pilares de Y-TZP obtidos por CAD/CAM após ciclagem termomecânica e fadiga termomecânica acelerada / Effects of different surface treatments on the surface characteristics, adhesive strength, adhesive stability and survival of Y-TZP crowns/abutments obtained by CAD/CAM after thermomechanical cycling and accelerated thermomechanical fatigueDanilo Flamini Oliveira 10 July 2017 (has links)
The study evaluated the effectiveness of surface treatments in surface modification and zirconia adhesion to resin cement; the bonding stability after thermomechanical cycling between free metal crowns with zirconia copings or monolithic zirconia crowns and customized abutments of the same material, subjected to surface treatments, and their influence in the survival of prosthetic systems after accelerated thermomechanical fatigue. The research was developed in 2 stages. In the first, zirconia discs were distributed in seven groups (n = 6): G1 (Rocatec); G2 (hydrofluoric acid 40%, 210 seconds); G3 (hydrofluoric acid 40%, 210 seconds + Rocatec); G4 (nanoparticle ZrO2); G5 (SiO2 nanoparticle); G6 (SiO2ZrO2 nanoparticle); G7 (SiO2ZrO2 nanoparticle + silane). One sample per group (n = 1) was analyzed by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The others were submitted to laser confocal microscopy (n = 5) for determination of surface roughness (Ra) and shear test. Wettability and surface energy were developed in triplicate (n = 3). G1, G3, G5 and G7 presented higher values of shear strength than the others. The best results defined the treatments of the next stage. In the second stage, 162 Morse type implant analogues were used. On them, installed a titanium base, connecting zirconia abutment to analog. The 162 abutments were distributed in 2 groups according to the test: thermomechanical cycling or accelerated thermomechanical fatigue. For each test, two restorative modalities were planned (Mono - monolithic zirconia, Pren - zirconia coping + vitroceramic fluorapatite revestment). Abutments were distributed depending on the treatment received: MonoRo (Rocatec), MonoSi (nanoparticle SiO2), MonoSiZr (nanoparticle SiO2ZrO2 + silane). The Pren Group received the same treatments. Crowns were cemented on abutments. Monolithic crowns, copings and abutments were obtained by CAD/CAM. The adhesion was quantified by tensile strength test after thermomechanical cycling (n = 9) (2x106 cycles, 2Hz, 120N and thermal cycles of 5º-55ºC). Values of tensile strength and obtained failure patterns were recorded. No significant differences were found between groups for tensile strength, but mean force behavior was different in groups depending on failure. The survival of the sets was analyzed after accelerated thermomechanical fatigue (n = 18) (progressive loads every 2x104 cycles of 80, 120, 160, 200, 240, 280 and 320N in 5Hz up to 14x104 or failure, with thermal cycles of 5º- 55ºC). Fatigue resistance was compared by the probability of survival at each interval. Failure patterns were classified in both tests and representative samples of each failure analyzed in SEM. MonoRo and MonoSiZr are similar and more likely to survive than the others. Belonging to PrenSiZr, MonoSi, PrenRo or PrenSi reduces the probability of survival.
