The Application of Outage Management System to Analyze and Improve Phasing Balance of Distribution Feeders

Huang, Ming-yang 06 August 2008 (has links)
Unbalanced operation of distribution feeders not only affects equipment utilization, voltage level and system protection, but it also increases extra energy losses. This leads to a deterioration of service quality, reliability and operation efficiency of a distribution system. This dissertation analyzes the problems of unbalanced three-phase distribution feeders, and offers potential solutions. Due to the voluminous data involved in a distribution system, analyzing the system by retrieving system data from paper maps is tedious and difficult. Thus, this dissertation uses data from the already constructed Outage Management System (OMS) of Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) to support distribution feeder three-phase unbalance analysis. The distribution feeder network was obtained by retrieving the connectivity table and attribute data of distribution components from the database of OMS. The topology process and node reduction were executed to identify the network configuration and to prepare the input data for load flow analysis. The hourly loading of each distribution transformer was derived using data of monthly energy consumption of customers served by each transformer, as retrieved from the Customer Information System (CIS), and the typical daily load patterns of customer classes. By performing three-phase load flow analysis, phase currents and neutral current of each primary trunk line section and each lateral could be calculated. Finally, an expert system is proposed to establish the rephasing strategy of laterals and distribution transformers to improve the imbalance of the three phases of the unbalanced distribution feeders. The heuristic rules adopted by distribution engineers are incorporated in the knowledge base of the expert system in the problem-solving process. The neutral current reduction algorithm is developed to support the inference engine to derive the rephasing strategy to reduce the neutral current of distribution feeder. In doing so, customer service interruption due to unexpected tripping of low energy over current relay (LCO) can be prevented, and furthermore the customer service interruption costs and labor costs to implement the rephasing strategy can be justified by the reduced power loss. To demonstrate the effectiveness of this proposed methodology in improving the three-phase unbalance of the distribution feeders, two actual distribution feeders in the Taipower Fengshan District were selected for computer simulation. After Taipower engineers implement the proposed rephasing strategies, the data of phase currents and neutral current of test feeders were collected from the SCADA system of Distribution Dispatch Control Center (DDCC). By comparing to the neutral current of test feeders before rephasing, it is concluded that the proposed rephasing strategy is effective in achieving three-phase balance of the distribution feeders after executing the rephasing of laterals and distribution transformers.

The Finite Element Analysis of Three-Dimensional Defects in Eddy Current Testing

Hsu, Jen-che 26 August 2008 (has links)
Eddy current testing is a widely-used examination of the nondestructive testing method. According to the theory of electromagnetic induction, the coil impendence varies with the interaction between the coil magnetic field and the eddy current magnetic field. By observing the variations of the phase angle and the impendence plane diagram, the influence of different defects and factors are evidently presented. The purpose of this study is to analyze the three-dimensional defects of eddy current testing by means of the finite element method. To begin with, a complete 3-D electromagnetic model in eddy current testing by finite element software package COMSOL Multiphysic was created. Then the impendence plane diagram and evaluation curves are drawn by the mathematics software package MATLAB to show the variations of the impendence and the phase angle. Moreover, the results show the effect of reducing testing errors. The simulation of 3-D defect model can provide more comparable data for experimentalists. So that the problem of inappropriate judgement can be prevented, and then the accuracy in eddy current testing can be enhanced.

Hsueh, Kuang-lin 08 September 2008 (has links)
For a long time ,the whole performance of the Taiwan¡¦s terminals that present both the passengers and the aircraft movements decline tendency. This research was from 2003 to 2007 the Taiwan¡¦s top 10 terminals as the object of study. The aim of study was providing the government and managers understood the implying of performance. This study based on Avkiran & Rowands (2008) Three-Stage SBM-DEA for the main methodology that excluded both external factor and statistic interference. And applied auxiliary by Malmquist index, carried on the performance measurement of the Taiwan¡¦s top 10 terminals with more detached and more impartial. According to the analysis it provided the government and managers to improve and work out a better future.

Apply A Three-Dimensional Eco-Hydrodynamic Model To Study Eutrophication In Nanhua Reservoir

Su, Chih-yuan 06 August 2009 (has links)
Nahua reservoir is an important water resource for supplying drinking water to the Tainan area and a part of Kaohsiung in Taiwan. In recent years, Nanhua reservoir suffers eutrophication problems as many other reservoirs in Taiwan. In order to study eutrophication problems in reservoirs, a three-dimensional hydrodynamic and water quality model has been constructed using the FVCOM (Finite Volume Coastal Ocean Model) model to simulation the hydrodynamics, the nutrient dynamics and the phytoplankton growth in the Nanhua reservoir. The modeling of 3D hydrodynamics is the basic module dominating the circulation in the reservoir. The 3D eutro-dynamics are also calculated by the water quality module, which includes the dynamic variations of chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), dissolve oxygen (DO), carbon biological oxygen demand (CBOD), ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N), organic nitrogen (ON), phosphate (PO4) and organic phosphorus (OP). The model was first calibrated with the data measured in 2007 and, then, verified with the 2008 data. The model results are in reasonable agreement with the field measurements, both in the calibration and the verification phases. The water level variations are influenced by daily supply for the drinking water treatment and the inflows from the catchment and from Chiashian aqueduct during the dry season in spring. Nutrients are mainly carried into the reservoir through these routes. The residence time in the reservoir and the phytoplankton response with the nutrient loads are calculated. The model results indicated that phytoplankton growth is limited by low temperature and long residence time during the winter. The chlorophyll levels are getting higher from spring through out summer, which is due to enough sun lights and high nutrient loads carried by the catchment runoff. Surface temperatures are higher then the bottom layers causing stratification that worsen the eutrophication problems. Besides the comparisons by hydrodynamic and water quality parameters, the Carlson Trophic State Index (CTSI) has been calculated to categorize the eutrophication levels in the reservoir, which have shown good agreement with the CTSI calculated from EPA sampling data. Therefore, the model can be used as a tool for water quality management in the Nanhua reservoir.

Testing market timing effect on capital structure by cost of equity

Shih, Yi-ting 03 September 2009 (has links)
Baker and Wurgler (2002) proposed market timing theory and indicated the observed capital structures are the outcomes that managers timed the equity market and took advantages of timing when information asymmetry is low and stock price is high. But many scholars argue that Baker and Wurgler¡¦s timing proxy is noisy, this study attempts to use the concept of Huang and Ritter (2009) to test market timing effect on capital structure more directly by cost of equity. The cost of equity in this study is estimated by Fama and French three factors model with five-year rolling regression which is different from Huang and Ritter (2009). The empirical results show that publicly traded firms in Taiwan Stock Exchange from 1996 to 2007 tend to issue debt when the cost of equity is high and issue equity when the cost of equity is low which means the timing of financing behavior exists but it has no long-lasting effect on capital structure. Indicating that the observed capital structures of publicly traded firms in Taiwan Stock Exchange aren¡¦t the outcomes that managers timed the equity market which is not identical to the perspectives of Baker and Wurgler (2002) and the speed of adjustment of capital structure of publicly traded firms in Taiwan Stock Exchange is very fast.
