Sala šiuolaikinėje moterų prozoje (Birutė Jonuškaitė "Didžioji sala", Sue Monk Kidd "Undinės krėslas", Victoria Hislop "Sala") / The Island in Women’s Contemporary Prose (Birutė Jonuškaitė „The Great Island”, Sue Monk Kidd „The Mermaid Chair” and Victoria Hislop „The Island”)

Stankevič, Oksana 24 September 2008 (has links)
Magistro darbe "Sala šiuolaikinėje moterų prozoje" analizuojama salos tema pasirinktuose trijuose mterų romanuose - Birutės jonuškaitės "Didžioji sala", Sue Monk Kidd "Undinės krėslas", Victoria Hislop "Sala". Remiantis feministinės kritikos, hermeneutiniu ir lyginamuoju metodu buvo siektina atskleisti salos erdves - geografinę, dvasinę ir mitinę, bei jos funkcijas, prasmes moterų gyvenime. Klasikiniuose vyrų romanuose sala atsiskleidžia kaip veikėjų prieglobstis, kalėjimas, išbandymų vieta ar idealusis pasaulis.Darbo analizė atskleidžia gilesnį salos kontekstą - jos geografinė erdvė ir laikas susilieja su moters pasąmone, atveria moteriai vidinio pasaulio erdves. aiškinamasi, kokiu būdu moterų proza per įvairius mitinius simbolius analizuoja moters tapatybės, saviidentifikacijos problemą, kuri išsprendžiama tik salos kontekste. / In the Master’s degree work called „An Island in Women’s Contemporary Prose” it is analyzed the theme of an island. To analyze the following theme there were chosen three novels written by women―writers, i. e. Birutė Jonuškaitė „The Great Island”, Sue Monk Kidd „The Mermaid Chair” and Victoria Hislop „The Island”. The aim of the work is to reveal spiritual, mythological and geographical spaces of the island, as well as its funkctions and meanings in women’s life. The aim of revealing spaces was reached with the help of feminist criticism, as well as hermeneutic and comparative methods. In classical novels written by men―writers the island is show as the main character’s shelter, prison, challenge place or perfect world. Whereas, work analysis presents us another island’s concept in the novels written by women―writers. The island’s geographical space and time merge together with woman’s subconsciousness revealing spaces of inner world for the woman. In the work it is analyzed in which way women’s prose with the help of various mythological symbols analizes woman’s identity and self―identity problem which is solved only in the context of the island.

Comparison of interactivity between CNN and YTN : a media analysis on two interacting programs : "Rick’s list" and "Topic news." / Comparison of interactivity between Cable News Network and Yonhap Television News.

Yi, Jaehong 09 July 2011 (has links)
This study has presented an analytic comparison of interactivity between CNN and YTN. In the circumstance that traditional media are suffering difficulty in attracting audience, CNN and YTN adopted a timely relief to break through a slump. It was interactivity. The most authoritative and oldest news networks in each country, America and Korea, CNN and YTN began the first interactive news shows at similar time. CNN’s Rick’s List and YTN’s Topic News did interactivity with audiences in real-time. Viewer’s texting messages to specific topics were on screen and anchors responded to them. The first interactive news shows gained steady popularity even under the decreasing rating period of CNN and YTN While Rick’s List has advanced, Topic News stopped after twenty months. This study analyzed why the different results and dissimilarities have been generated in terms of culture, inveterate media custom and business circumstance. / Department of Telecommunications

Probabilistic Models for the Analysis of Gene Expression Profiles

Quon, Gerald 16 August 2013 (has links)
Gene expression profiles are some of the most abundant sources of data about the cellular state of a collection of cells in an organism. Comparison of the expression profiles of multiple samples allows biologists to find associations between observations at the molecular level and the phenotype of the samples. A key challenge is to distinguish variation in expression due to biological factors of interest from variation due to confounding factors that can arise for unrelated technical or biological reasons. This thesis presents models that can explicitly adjust the comparison of expression profiles to account for specific types of confounding factors. One such confounding factor arises when comparing tissue-specific expression profiles across multiple organisms to identify differences in expression that are indicative of changes in gene function. When the organisms are separated by long evolutionary distances, tissue functions may be re-distributed and introduce expression changes unrelated to changes in gene function. We developed Brownian Factor Phylogenetic Analysis, a model that can account for such re-distribution of function, and demonstrate that removing this confounding factor improves tasks such as predicting gene function. Another confounding factor arises because current protocols for expression profiling require RNA extracts from multiple cells. Often biological samples are heterogeneous mixtures of multiple cell types, so the measured expression profile is an average of the RNA levels of the constituent cells. When the biological sample contains both cells of interest and nuisance cells, the confounding expression from the nuisance cells can mask the expression of the cells of interest. We developed ISOLATE and ISOpure, two models for addressing the heterogeneity of tumor samples. We demonstrated that modeling tumor heterogeneity leads to an improvement in two tasks: identifying the site of origin of metastatic tumors, and predicting the risk of death of lung cancer patients.

華語與韓語表達存在的對比分析及針對韓籍學生的華語教學策略 / Expressing existence in Mandarin and Korean: a contrastive analysis and application of teaching Mandarin to Korean students

李善禎, IY, Seon cheong Unknown Date (has links)
San e namu ga itta. 山 在 樹 有 本論文探討韓語存在句如何表現主題、焦點、定性,如何傳達信息而進行與華語存在句的對比分析。此外,從功能的角度提供適當的教學策略,並且針對韓籍學生設計存現句語法課程而應用在實際教學上,藉此探討功能語法在教學上應用的可行性。 / Existential Sentences generally exist in human languages. There are two kinds of word orders of Existential Sentences in Mandarin: locations+verbs+people/things(Example 1); people/things+verbs+locations(Example 2). Example 1: Zhuozi shang you shu. (桌子上有書。) Example 2: Shu zai zhuozi shang. (書在桌子上。) Subject of Example 2 is definite people/things; however, Example 1 can only use indefinite people/things as its object. Example 1 is generally considered as Existential Sentence. Mandarin Existential Sentence is an unfamiliar structure for students learning Mandarin as a foreign language. This thesis analyzes Mandarin Existential Sentence from the perspective of Functional Grammar. Topics covered in the discussion of Mandarin Existential Sentence include cognitive perception of space, presentative function, information packaging, focus, topic and definiteness. There is no corresponding Mandarin Existential Sentence in Korean. Verbs meaning “zai ‘to be at’(在), you ‘to have’(有), shi ‘to be’(是)” are translated to 있다(itta) ‘be, have’ in Korean. This thesis discusses how Existential Sentences express their topic, focus, definiteness and information in Korean. This thesis also provides suggestions for teaching Mandarin Existential Sentence to Korean students and discusses the feasibility of Functional Grammar in teaching .
