[en] DO NOT DISTURB: TEEN CONSUMPTION, MATERIAL CULTURE, AND PRIVACY FROM THE TEEN BEDROOMS PERSPECTIVE AND THEIR MEDIA REPRESENTATION / [pt] NÃO PERTURBE!: CONSUMO, CULTURA MATERIAL E PRIVACIDADE JUVENIS A PARTIR DOS QUARTOS DOS ADOLESCENTES E SUAS REPRESENTAÇÕES MIDIÁTICASMARCELLA SILVA AZEVEDO 18 June 2021 (has links)
[en] Considering the teen bedrooms perspective crucial to understand contemporary youth, this dissertation studies their media representations based on the interpretive content analysis of articles published on Capricho magazine s website between 2013 and 2019, as well as teen bedroom tour videos posted on YouTube between 2017 and 2019. This bedroom-centered analysis allowed for an input on the reality of teens as a historic and social group, whose rites of passage are being constantly reexamined. These bedrooms have become consumption strongholds in which specific communication dynamics take place, dynamics of identity and social media interactions, including carefully elaborated media presences. Herein, we analyze teen material culture from the exhibition and movement of objects inside the bedrooms, and from the teen narratives about them. We also reflect upon teen privacy as a value, and on what is considered strictly intimate as opposed to what is portrayed on social media. Personal bedroom experiences and the existence of a bedroom culture point to a teen culture that takes place essentially in the domestic private space, but that must be understood in regards to the public spaces and to other agents of contemporary society.

Driving tour of the Upper Wakarusa WatershedWeir, Arnold January 1900 (has links)
Master of Arts / Department of Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community Planning / Lee R. Skabelund / This report presents one approach for increasing understanding, appreciation and protection of watersheds by individuals living within the urban-to-rural lands interface.
The purpose of the study is to provide guidance to developing and implementing a driving tour of environmentally sensitive land around Clinton Lake and the Upper Wakarusa Watershed (UWW). Although the tour is particular to the UWW, the principles will be useful to planners and watershed advocates working to promote water quality improvement in other geographic areas.
A first step in increasing community involvement to restore and protect watersheds is developing a broader public understanding of what watersheds are and their integral part in daily life. By taking a driving tour (literally or virtually), participants can see firsthand how a watershed functions and the values it provides to people and ecosystems.
Two key ingredients in the planning process are public participation and clearly defined goals. Public participation begins with awareness of an issue that impacts lives. The first step in engaging the public is to develop a framework for making residents aware that watersheds are a critical part of their environment and the health of their community. The driving tour of the Upper Wakarusa Watershed should help residents and visitors experience a “sense of place” related to the watershed by achieving three over-arching goals:
Develop meaningful themes that engage the residents and visitors in learning about watersheds and give insight to their relationships with the watershed.
Introduce concepts that are relevant to the lives of residents and visitors and their understanding of a watershed.
Generate a stronger “sense of place” as it relates to the Upper Wakarusa watershed.
The driving tour in this report has been designed to serve as a broad blueprint for future implementation. The route was devised to take advantage of area resources, especially those on public land, while adhering to guidelines proven successful in promoting rural areas such as the Flint Hills and Cheyenne Bottoms. The actual implementation of the Upper Wakarusa Watershed Driving Tour is expected to be led by local coalitions, and the precise route should be adjusted as necessary.

Estimating the Relative Value of Individual Strokes Gained on the PGA TourCensullo, Alex 01 January 2017 (has links)
This study compares the predictive ability of newly introduced strokes gained measures on PGA Tour earnings performance with that of more conventional golf statistics. It is found that the strokes gained measures explain slightly more of the variability in the distribution of earnings. Strokes gained on the approach shot are determined to be the most valuable relative to the other strokes gained metrics.

Karlštejn Castle is one of the most popular tourist sights in the Czech Republic. This thesis therefore focuses on the use of this conservation area, especially in the second half of the 20th century and all the 21st century. Based on the available archival documents, in the thesis there are described changes of the expositions in the castle's rooms that are opened to the visitors. The thesis is also focused on the tour routes and development of the visitors' turnout. Last of all, in this thesis there are mentioned past and present events held in the castle and other "crowd-pullers" that are attractive to the visitors. In the first part the thesis also deals with the issue of the castle's ownership and the effort for the integration among the UNESCO sights.

Guides of the Falu Mine : Perceptions of Differences and Similarities onDomestic and International VisitorsWagner, Jens January 2012 (has links)
Industrial heritage tourism has been in focus for many academic studies and tourism is an alternative developmental tool for mines and contributes to their economic success. This thesis is about the Falu Mine in Dalarna, Sweden, which has World Heritage status since 2001 and is one of the biggest attractions in the region. Its history and cultural importance are reasons for the importance of preserving the heritage. The Falu Mine is under the management of the Great Copper Mountain Trust and one of their ambitions is to ensure the continuous popularity among domestic and international visitors. In order to gain a better understanding of the visitors and to find strategies to improve performance, a visitor survey has been conducted in the summer of 2011. It is the authors believe that the guides of the Falu Mine have the best available insight and that their perceptions help to add to the understanding about the visitors. Therefore, this thesis aims to explore the perceptions of the guides about their visitors, to investigate how the perceptions correspond to the statistical results and to study if there are any differences between domestic and international visitors. The mixed methods approach will increase the depth and accuracy of the results, by linking qualitative with quantitative data. The results show that differences between domestic and international visitors exist, both proven by interviews with the guides and the visitor survey. These differences occur in the factors, such as level of education of the visitors, group size and number of children in the group, knowledge of the visitors prior to and after the visit, sources of information and the fulfillment of the visitor expectations. The perceptions emphasize how these differences impact the guided tours. The guides of the Falu Mine have to be aware of those differences in order to adjust the tour accordingly, as well as the management of the Falu Mine can use this knowledge in order to identify strategies for improving performance.
