Röjler, Håkan, Henriksen, Oscar January 2016 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine whether or not a winning performance within professional cycling influences the stock exchange. It looks at the impact a win has on a team’s main sponsor through the effect on said sponsor’s company stock price. Methodology: This study has a positivistic and deductive approach when testing the theory of market efficiency. It uses event study methodology to measure the effect of new information on a company’s stock price. The event period lasts from the last working day before the event to the first working day after the event. The study examined 99 winning performances in the UCI World Tour, from January 1, 2005, to April 30, 2016. Normal return before the event window was calculated from an estimation period of 250 working days. A T-test was used to assess if the results were significant. Results: The study found, based on the complete samples including all cycling races, that there is no significant effect on a main sponsor’s stock price. The Average Abnormal Return came out as 0,04 percent. 46 one day races were examined, resulting in an AAR of -0,1 percent. This means that there was no significant effect on the sponsor’s stock price. For the stage races, on the other hand, the 44 measurements resulted in an AAR of 0,38 percent with a positive 5 percent significance level. Nine measurements derived from the Grand Tours resulted in an AAR of -0,96 percent and a negative 5 percent significance level. Conclusions: The conclusion of this study is that there is no significant effect on the main team sponsor’s stock price, regardless of categorisation. While single day races generated no significant effect, the stage races did have a positive significant effect. Based on the study, The Grand Tour races resulted in a negative effect but the samples for this category were too few to draw a final conclusion from.

Présence de l'ange dans la poésie du vingtième siècle : figures, symbole, discours / Presence of the angel in the twentieth century poetry : aspects, symbol, speaking

Pierrisnard, Yannick 08 March 2014 (has links)
Relying on traditional paradoxes that theology defined from an angelic essence, the poetry of the twentieth century expresses a universal fascination towards angels. This attraction appears all the more curious as it applies to all observable poetic sensibilities. In addition, these practices turn out to be so diverse and contradictory that angelic appearance acquire a radically original property to withstand any intention of the author, and the even more curious one to escape the immediate intentions of a poet, developing a secondary speech of its own. The angel marks a way of speech in which different instances of poetic discourse coexist in a still unindividuated relation. The angelic messenger indicates the precise moment when the inner chaos of a subject is transformed into articulate language . This exploration of the angelic phenomenon will be divided into three steps, each dedicated to a different corpus. The study of the angel as a visual figure will explore the many variations from an apparition to another, motivated by hesitations of religious, temporal, civilizational, political and aesthetic kind, as they appear in the poetic works of Guillaume Apollinaire for the French literature, and those of Odysseus Elytis in the Greek linguistic area. The analysis of the angel as a support of an intimate relationship of the subject to itself more broadly interrogate the Austro-German poetic experiences on the one hand, the Mexican on the other hand. Eventually, two attempts to form an angelic language in French poetry will be considered, through the respective major works of Patrice de La Tour du Pin and Christian Gabriel/le Guez-Ricord.

The Effects of a Supermarket Tour on Improvement of Nutrition Knowledge and Eating Behavior

Hall, Elizabeth 01 December 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine if participation in a supermarket tour improves nutrition knowledge and eating behavior in adult participants. Participants were recruited in communities surrounding Food City stores, a local supermarket. Prior to completing a standardized tour, participants completed a survey to assess nutrition knowledge and eating behavior. This survey was given to participants again three months later. A program evaluation was given one time at the end of the tour. Data analysis revealed no significant findings, other than the behavior-based question: “How many meals or snacks on most days included vegetables”. Vegetable consumption appeared to decrease. All participants who completed the program evaluation reported they learned something new as a result of the tour and were satisfied with the experience. These findings suggest that nutrition education provided in supermarkets is well-received by participants, but additional research with objective measures is needed.

La Croisière du Vanadis : sur les traces d'Edith Wharton / The Cruise of the Vanadis : on the traces of Edith Wharton

Dell'olio, Aurélie 28 November 2014 (has links)
A trace is both a material imprint and a trail or series of imprints, marking the passage of a being or an object in transit; it can therefore be understood as the material evidence of a path that has been pursued. In the particular context of this research, the term trace refers first and foremost to the record of a sea voyage. This unpublished journal, kept by Edith Wharton, gives an account of the various stages of the Mediterranean cruise she made in the yacht, the Vanadis, in the spring of 1888.This long book is of particular interest, insofar as it, not only gives a fascinating account of the response of a young nineteenth-century cultivated American to the different cultures discovered in the course of a voyage leading her from North Africa to the Greek Islands and the shores of the Adriatic, but also provides valuable insight into the early responses of an artist in the making. The term “trace” therefore refers to both these aspects: first the voyage itself, the places visited, their physical features and historical significance; secondly the traces left by the visitor who embarked on this adventure at a turning point in her life. The sentiment that the future artist is poised at the crossroads of her existence, leads the researcher – in an attempt to leave as few stones as possible unturned – on a trail leading back to her past and forward to her future. This investigation would not be complete without a survey of travel literature, as the particular genre Edith Wharton has chosen as her means of expression. All these traces unite to form a series of “signs” (in the Saussurian sense of the word), which the researcher endeavours to interpret in the hopes of understanding what is “signified” on a deeper level.

Who Cares About Virtual Campus Tours? Virtual Tours in the College Choice Model and Perceived Student-Institution Fit

Thompson, Christopher 01 January 2023 (has links) (PDF)
College recruitment practices have remained stagnant for quite some time. However, due to decreases in state funding and hypercompetitive applicant pools colleges must adapt their recruitment practices to remain competitive. Due to precautions and social distancing guidelines which occurred in 2020 caused by the coronavirus pandemic, college information sessions, college fairs, campus tours and other recruitment events were suspended. As such, admissions administrators were forced to rely on virtual recruitment practices, including virtual campus tours, to recruit applicants. Virtual campus tours allow colleges to expand their applicant pool by engaging with prospective students, who may not possess the required finances or ability to travel to campus. While considerable research has centered on the factors that influence the college choice process, there is a lack of research pertaining to virtual campus tours. This study reviews the influence of virtual campus tours in the college choice process by interviewing 13 matriculated college students about their experiences with virtual campus tours. This qualitative phenomenological study focuses on the role of virtual campus tours in the college choice model and their influence on perceived levels of student-institution fit.
