Cestopis Jiřího Tektandera z Jablonného / Travel book of Jiří Tektander from Jablonné

ANDERLOVÁ, Jitka January 2011 (has links)
Current literary history mainly highlights humanistic travel publications written in the Czech language. Voyages in the foreign languages are staying in the background of the literary field or unfortunately are even neglected in spite of the fact that their cognitive function is not weakened. Submitted thesis is trying to break or disturb this way of observing at least and at the same time attempts to intergrate the German-written work by the Czech traveller into the Czech literary tradition. Jiří Tektander from Jablonné, the author of the voyage, wrote down his experiences and remarks of the diplomatic mission, which had been delegated to Persian Shah Abbas the Great by Rudolph II. in 1602. Tektander became the first Czech man who visited and described Persian Empire and Armenia. He was the only one from Rudolph´s Ministers who survived the long course in three arranged expeditions. At that time our analysed work was very popular and was also published twice. In spite of its popularity, the revolutionary year and the events happened after the beginning of the November 1620 was unfortunately fatal for that work and it was almost neglected. The aim of this thesis is a kind of revival of the Tektander´s vovage and also it is an attempt to include this work in the imaginary refined humanistic literature. This thesis is trying to map the trace of the Emperor´s delegation, explore visited locations, also compare remarked facts with the reality and finally insert to the historical context.

East?? East??? : Travel books in Eastern Europe (1989 - )

Tuan, Daniele 06 February 2016 (has links)
The end of communism and the fall of the Berlin wall have drawn attention to the ancient countries of Eastern Europe. This geo-critical research aims at studying and understanding perceptions of this part of European continent from few travelling writers. These ones, as Rory MacLean with Stalin’s Nose (1992), Jason Goodwin with On Foot to the Golden Horn (1993), François Maspero with Balkans-Transit (1997), Wolfgang Büscher with Berlin-Moskau. Eine Reise zu Fuß (2004), Andrzej Stasiuk with Sur la route de Babadag (2004), Marco Belpoliti with La prova (2007) and Paolo Rumiz with Trans Europa Express (2012) did, have crossed this part of Europe, in one way or another, after the fall of the Berlin Wall. In a traditional view, this space was used to be associated with the cold war and communism. Today, it seems to be vague, unclear, ambiguous and uncertain; a space shared between post-communism and ultra-liberalism, between early and post-modernism, between the known and the unknown. In other words, Eastern Europe has become an exotic borders’ space.

Traduire un portrait de Paris : Une étude sur les problèmes de traduction d’un récit de voyage du français au suédois / Translating a portrait of Paris : A study on Translation Problems from French into Swedish in a travel book

Zomegnan, Elisabet January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this essay is to investigate the translation problems translating a travel book about Paris, with cultural and historic connotations, from French, source language, into Swedish, target language. The method that is used is Nords’ text analysis model, which is functionalist and pragmatic. Her theory of action is based on Vermeers’ skopos theorie and on Reiss’ text typology. Nords’ looping model includes analysis, transfer and synthesis. She focuses on three important aspects which are the translation brief, the role of the source-text analysis and the importance of the functional hierarchy of translation problems. Nord proposes two different translation strategies: Documentary translation and Instrumental translation. The first one is source text oriented and the second one is target text oriented. Our study focuses on pragmatic and cultural equivalence concerning the different aspects as style, lexis (vocabulary) and syntax in the source language and the translation into the target language. The purpose of the translation is target text oriented which means that different strategies, as adaptations and explanations, are used in the target text. The conclusions that are drawn from this study are that historical and cultural connotations, that are present in the source text, require a deep knowledge on the French culture and language, this being a necessary competence for the translator to produce a comprehensible translation for the target text audience.

Récits de voyage au Mexique : une invitation : réflexions sur l'évolution du genre dans les récits de trois auteurs et voyageurs espagnols contemporains : Francisco Solano, Paco Nadal et Suso Mourelo / Travel books in Mexico : an invitation : reflections about the evolution of the genre in the narratives of three contemporary Spanish authors : Francisco Solano, Paco Nadal and Suso Mourelo

Nguyen, Laura 18 November 2016 (has links)
This thesis explores the style of travel literature and the development over the centuries of a poetic of travel, unique to the Mexican territory. Two backgrounds depicted by occidental travelers’ writings introduce the topic. The first one focuses on the travel’s writing evolution from Middle Age until the XX century. The second one gives us an outline of Mexico’s history from the XVI century till today. These foundation help determine the narratives of Francisco Solano, Paco Nadal and Suso Mourelo, three contemporary Spanish authors who authentically traveled to Mexico between 1994 and 2008. Their analysis reflects paradigm shifts of the travel concept and his writing forms, but also the continuity of a model (the classic travel book) and an imagination (Occidental view of Mexico) transmitted for centuries. Like the studied style, this work takes a transdisciplinary approach. It questions Mexico’s representation and shows how this country acquired in the speeches of travelers a mythical dimension. Finally, in the light of the decolonial theories, it reveals the ideologies that the three Spanish authors and travelers convey.

¿Es Paisajes peruanos un libro de viajes? / ¿Es Paisajes peruanos un libro de viajes?

Wiesse Rebagliati, Jorge Raúl 10 April 2018 (has links)
It might seem obvious to state that Paisajes peruanos, one of José de la Riva-Agüero’s threegreat books, should be a travel book, as it is , in effect, the wording of a trip really made. Not whithstandingly, not every trip finishes in the form of a textual genre know as a “travel book”. Using the three dicothomies proposed by Luis Alburquerque for identifying a travel book (“factual” as opposed to “fictional”, “descriptive” as opposed to “narrative”, and “objective” as opposed to “subjective”), this paper proves the generic filiation of Paisajes peruanos. What this paper does not prove is why Riva-Agüero used specifically this particular genre tocristalize his idea of “integral Peruanity”.
