No. of bitstreams: 1 DiorgenesTorres.pdf: 4899348 bytes, checksum: 3345fe53d538fb6b70d16529a8e2c4ee (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-07-19 / This research was made with students from the Maranhão’s State Music School and it investigates about using arpeggios (triads and fourths) on melodic improvisation like being a base of a methodological proceeding to be suggested for the teaching of the subject Improvisation I in the technical course of this school. It was realized two videos recording filming and two audio recording in what the students presented his knowledge about music improvisation before and after the systematic studying from the theoretical and practice contents suggested in this research. After the confront of those two moments from a sample of students extracted from the whole group of participants students, it was made some analysis and considerations about how the improvisation teaching happened in the music school and also the possible benefits that this methodological proceeding with the using of arpeggios could bring to the teaching of the subject.

Arbetet som ordningsvakt : Att möta motstridiga krav / Work as a security guard : To meet conflicting requirements

Frödin, Rolf January 2019 (has links)
The study has its starting point in two articles in the daily press, one debate article and one reply, about the security guards work at the pub. The debaters in the article said that the insecurity in the nightlife depends on the security guards abusing their power discriminating and committing violence against the guests at the pub. A security guard replicated on the article and said that the insecurity in the pub is not created by the security guards but by the pub owner with his staff. There is a conflict of interest between the security guard's assignment and the pub owner who pays the guard's salary. The owner of the pub would like to have influence over the work of the security guards, otherwise he /she may lose his /her work. In the reply, it is proposed that the solution to the conflict of interest is that the security guards become employees and receive a salary from the police authority. The contents of the security guard's reply to the debate article caught my interest in this study. The aim of the study is to gain increased knowledge and understanding of how the conditions are for the work of the security guards, in a pub environment, based on three issues.  • How do the guards experience their profession and mission? • How do the security guards handle the conflict of interest between the principal police authority and the owner of the pub? • How do the security guards reason to be state employees and receive salaries from the police authority?  The theoretical perspective of the study consists of Rational Choice theory (RC), Georg Simmel's theory of triads and Pierre Bourdieu's concept of habitus. To answer the questions, qualitative method was chosen with interview. Five security guards were interviewed through semi-structured interview method. The interviews were printed and analyzed by thematic analysis. The themes that appear in the study are the professional role of the security guards, conflict of interest, form of employment and improvement area. The study's results show that the security guards watch their professional role as an important service function at the pub where good reception of the guests is in focus. The described conflict of interest was known by the interviewed guards, but they judged that it was caused by security guards who were unsuitable and who did not stand up for their profession and assignments. All security guards did not want to be employed and receive salaries from the police authority, but argued that security guards would only be employed by security companies and not directly by the owner of the pub.

Yann Apperry’s Diabolus in musica: a partial translation prefaced by an introduction to the novel and the theory of foreignization

Lane, Sarah Vania 11 1900 (has links)
Yann Apperry’s third novel, Diabolus in musica, is a pastiche of diabolic and gothic tropes that tells of a musical genius who composes a ballade that kills. Resurrections, doppelgangers and triads are reoccurring themes. Although the narrator kills his doppelganger on the first page, the name of this double, Lazarus, haunts the narrative with the threat of resurrection. Similarly, the threefold tritone, the “diabolus in musica,” is not only echoed in the numerical structure of Apperry’s novel but also in the familial triad: the father’s presence is dark and demoniac, provoking the cruel music that the son in turn forces onto the exterior world; the mother is a ghostly distillation of the Eternal Feminine. In terms of comparative readings, Diabolus can be read alongside Suskind’s Perfume as the Bildungsroman of an outsider raised without love who turns astounding genius to homicidal ends. It shares narrative and structural similarities with Mann’s Doctor Faustus: each tells of a prodigy who composes music and a faithful sidekick who composes narrative; each arranges his novel according to number. Nabokov’s influence on Apperry’s work is also significant; many parallels are to be found with his third novel, The Defense. Approaches to translation diverge according to their foundational conceptions of language: do we create language or does language create us? To conclude the former is to adopt an approach that focuses on the meanings of source texts while to conclude the latter is to focus more on their formal properties. Caught between these differing conceptions, the translator must choose between domestication and foreignization; I favour the latter for literary translation. I define the literary through a reading of the aesthetic in Dauenhauer and Kristeva, and then I review the arguments that Benjamin, Derrida, Berman and Venuti make in favour of word-based translation. From this I conclude that translation can, in refusing to hide its foreign origins, lead readers into the unknown territory of a strange language, author and text, where they become strangers, and where their language and culture become foreign. With this partial translation of Diabolus, I seek to provoke such an encounter with foreignness.

The Effects of the Earth's Rotation on Internal Wave Near-resonant Triads and Weakly Nonlinear Models

Hu, Youna 15 August 2007 (has links)
This thesis investigates the effects of the earth's rotation on internal waves from two perspectives of nonlinear internal wave theory: near-resonant triads and weakly nonlinear models. We apply perturbation theory (multiple scale analysis) to the governing equations of internal waves and develop a near-resonant internal wave triad theory. This theory explains a resonant-like phenomenon in the numerical results obtained from simulating internal waves generated by tide topography interaction. Furthermore, we find that the inclusion of the earth's rotation (nonzero $f$) in the numerical runs leads to a very special type of resonance: parametric subharmonic instability. Through using perturbation expansion to solve separable solutions to the governing equations of internal waves, we derive a new rotation modified KdV equation (RMKdV). Of particular interest, the dispersion relation of the new equation obeys the exact dispersion relation for internal waves for both small and moderate wavenumbers ($k$). Thus this new RMKdV is able to model wea kly nonlinear internal waves with various wavenumbers ($k$), better than the Ostrovsky equation which fails at describing waves of small $k$.
