The hypothesis of this dissertation is that contemporary Norwegian painter, Odd
Nerdrum (b 1944), uses tenebrism as a mode of beauty and a device to
emphasise psychological states of being. Tenebrism is an effective kitsch
device to create an impression of realism and so-called truthfulness while
pointing to the deepest human sentiments and emotions.
I argue that Nerdrum's tenebrist art questions dark truths about modernity and
its effect on the self. The darkness of his tenebrist style amplifies the emotional
states of his human characters, and becomes a negative form of transcendence

New companies require brand development strategies. The aim of the study was to establish the effectiveness of ingredient branding strategies on customer purchase intention towards new market entrants in the South African stud buffalo breeding market.
The study was quantitative in nature and descriptive in design, with demographics, operational background and branding data gathered through a structured survey in the form of a closed questionnaire administered by the researcher. The sample comprised 27 stud buffalo breeders across South Africa.
The findings supported ingredient branding as having a positive influence on customer purchase intention towards new market entrants for both the host and ingredient brand. Strategic brand partnership through ingredient co-branding between a well-known brand and a new market entry found positive influence on customer purchase intention towards the new market entry. Authentic leadership is currently viewed as an appropriate leadership style for business to regain the societal trust which it has lost over recent years due to scandals, exploitation and unethical practices. Despite the importance of authentic leadership in the current business environment, little is known about its development across the life-span of a leader within the emerging market context. The objective of this study is to understand the nature of authentic leadership development within the emerging markets context.
The study was exploratory and qualitative in nature and employed a life-story approach to data collection. Ten semi-structured interviews were conducted with senior business leaders who have spent at least ten years of their life in an emerging market. All participants were either a CEO, director, executive committee member or board member.
The findings from the research are that the trigger events within emerging markets are comprised of positive and negative events and can be categorized into career, personal relationships and adolescent events. The nature of leadership development was found to emerge from a strong support structure, early exposure to certain activities and overcoming hardships through resilience. Whilst Remuneration Committees are facing increasing pressure to make well-informed decisions that are justifiable to all stakeholders. Very little research, if any, provides information on the skills and competencies of Remuneration Committee members. The rationale for this study emanates from the researcher's desire to look at Remuneration Committees beyond executive pay and the link to company performance, and instead focus on reviewing skills and competencies of its members.
The primary data collection method was semi-structured interviews. The sample consisted of 16 Remuneration Committee members and Remuneration Consultants. Data was analysed using the Atlas ti. system.
Empirical evidence shows that corporate governance, objectivity, business acumen and knowledge of human resources are must have skills and competencies of Remuneration Committee members. Consequently, a framework that provides a composition of an ideal effective RemCo member is included. Secondly, the study found that the usefulness of Remuneration Consultants varies. Lastly, the study found that the use of Remuneration Committee assessments, as a measurement tool to measure effectiveness were questionable. The relationship between perceived leader charisma and follower innovationMutsekwa, Lynette Rudo January 2017 (has links)
Leadership research is aligned that the most important drivers of follower innovation in organisations are their leaders. Yet there is no specific leadership style that has been irrefutably identified to inspire innovation. The lack of consistency and consensus in the leadership style that influences follower innovation has been driven by the styles that have been researched in relation to follower innovation being too broad. This research aimed to unbundle the charismatic element of leadership which could be found in some leadership styles. To this end, the research further categorized charismatic leaders as either positive or negative. This assisted in understanding the relationship between perceived leader charisma and follower innovation with employee voice as a moderator.
Online questionnaires were sent to a target population which comprised of professionals, middle and senior managers who work in the technology industry in South Africa using purposive and snowballing sampling techniques. Data collected from 329 participants was used to assess validity and reliability of the measuring instrument for the study. Employing regression analyses, the research showed that perceived charismatic leadership as well as perceived positive charismatic leader behaviours are both positively related to follower innovation. Further, employee voice positively enhances these relationships. No significant relationship was identified between perceived negative charismatic leader behaviours and follower innovation. However employee voice negatively moderated this relationship.
