Migracijos ir nedarbo lygio Lietuvoje priklausomybės tyrimas / The Analysis Of The Dependency Upon The Migration and The Level Of Unemployment In Lithuania Master’s work

Kriaučiūnienė, Anželika, Samoška, Mindaugas 09 September 2009 (has links)
In this master’s work the analysis of the reasons of the migration and the unemployment level in Lithuania in 2003-2008 is given. There is discussed the dependence on each other. The data about the unemployment level, about the number of unemployed people and the migration in Lithuania is analyzed and systematized referring to the information from different works of Lithuanian and foreign authors. There is given the analysis of data according to different age groups, sex, education, family status and emigrants according to their living place. Special indicators were calculated and they helped to evaluate the significance of some indexes, to make the equation of the direct regression and to draw its diagrams which reflect the predicted number of emigrants when the number of unemployed people is known. One of the reasons why the unemployment level decreased in Lithuania at this moment is the rise of migration. The unemployment is one of the reasons of the migration, so it can be stated that migration is closely related to the unemployment.

Georgia's structurally unemployed workers: do state job training programs help?

Moody, Mitchell Lawrence 17 November 2008 (has links)
Manufacturing employment in Georgia has declined as thousands of jobs have been lost to foreign suppliers and improvements in productivity. Changes in the state s industrial structure have created mismatches between worker capabilities and the skills required to work in a new field. The transition from a manufacturing to a services economy has strained the ability of many in the state s workforce to acquire to the new job skills demanded by employers. In order to regain employment and maintain former wage levels, structurally unemployed workers need new skills to work new jobs. Unemployed workers sometimes turn to workforce development system (WDS) programs to upgrade skills and provide access to better employment. The purpose of WDS job training services is to facilitate the transition from job loss to stable re-employment. Which job training strategies work or do not work and or for which demographic groups was the focus of this research. The fundamental question posed by this research was, "Can job training help alleviate the adverse wage impacts and time spent in prolonged job search resulting from structural unemployment in Georgia, and if so, which programs work better?" Answering this question requires that structurally unemployed workers in Georgia be assessed with respect to industry, demographics, geography, and Georgia Department of Labor training program exposure as explanatory factors for post-training wage and job search time differentials, both direct indicators of program efficacy to workers. Multivariate regression techniques were used to estimate the impacts of GDOL job training services on workers exiting the state's structurally declining industries and reentering new employment. Among the findings of this research were that: job training was often associated with lower worker wages once re-employed and longer times spent in job search; compared to short-term unemployed workers from declining industries, the long-term unemployed experienced significantly larger adverse wage effects and longer job search times; job training services were found to be most beneficial to workers leaving less-skilled industries and less beneficial to unemployed leaving higher-skilled industries such as manufacturing; and informational job training services were determined to be more cost-effective than occupational skills training.

An empirical phenomenological investigations of the experience of being unemployed : a critical study in the South African context

Jaffray, Timothy William January 1990 (has links)
Unemploynent is a problem that confronts many western countries. The aim of this dissertation is to understand, on the basis of a phenomenological investigation, what it means to be an unemployed, white, South African citizen. These meanings are then seen and discussed against the background of the problems associated with the ideological structure within the country. How the latter relates to white employment and psychological life is also explored. The results demonstrate the negative impact unemploynent has upon the psychological functioning of the individual. The results further show the despair such individuals face, having been 'denied' an accepted role within society.

Efeitos adversos da legislação do seguro-desemprego: evidência sobre o Brasil / The unintended consequences of unemployment insurance: evidence from Brazil

Cristiano Costa Carvalho 30 June 2017 (has links)
This study investigates whether the probability of Brazilian formal workers being laid-off increases when they are elegible to receive the unemployment insurance. Using an administrative data, Relações Anuais de Informações Sociais (RAIS), for the universe of formal workers, we estimate the effect of a change in the elibility criteria on the probability of lay-off for the workers using a diff-in-diff model. The results point out to a 0,73 p.p. decrease in this probability for groups who were elegible before the change and became inelegible afterwards, in comparison to the non-eligible workers in both periods. We conclude that fake layoffs accounts for at least 13% of total layoffs. The effects are more relevant for workers employed in small firms, with low education level and not employed in service or industrial sectors. In an additional analysis using a survey of labor force, Pesquisa Mensal de Emprego (PME), we find that 34% of workers engaged in fake layoffs are reemployed in the informal sector in the next month.
