Modeling performance of horizontal, undulating, and multilateral wellsKamkom, Rungtip 15 May 2009 (has links)
Horizontal, undulating, and multilateral wells are relatively new alternatives in field
development because they can increase the productivity per well and reduce the cost of
field development. Because the feasibility of these wells may not be valid in some
reservoirs, well performance should be verified before making decisions. Undulation is
usually associated to horizontal wells with some degrees. Existing inflow performance
models do not account for the undulation of the well, which can cause significant error
and economic loss. Moreover, some of the inflow models ignore pressure drop along the
lateral, which is definitely not true in high production and long lateral wells.
The inflow performance models of horizontal, undulating, and multilateral wells
are developed in this study. The models can be divided into two main categories: the
closed form model and the line source model. The closed form model applies for
relatively low vertical permeability formations for the single-phase system and twophase
system. The model is flexible and easy to apply with reasonable accuracy. The
line source model does not have any restrictions with permeability. The model applies
for single-phase system. The model is very accurate and easy to use. Both models can be
applied to various well trajectories with realizable accuracy. As a result of this study, the
well performance of unconventional well trajectories can be predicted and optimized.

Comparação entre modelos de periodização do treinamento físico combinado (aeróbico e resistido) em mulheres de 50 a 75 anos de idade: associação com variantes genéticas / Comparison among periodization models of combined aerobic and resistance training in women among 50 to 75 years: association with genetic variantsMedeiros, Leonardo Henrique de Lima 06 November 2017 (has links)
The aging is an inexorable process, but the gradual reduction of the capacity in the organism is related with lifestyle habits and genetic factors. At baseline and after 12 weeks, aerobic fitness (peak oxygen uptake [VO2peak] and six-minute walk test) and maximal muscle strength (1 RM bench press and leg press) were measured. The ACE genotyping was performed trough conventional PCR and ACTN3 by real-time PCR. The results showed that the magnitude of the maximal strength statistically increased in the bench press [effect size (ES) of 1.18 in NLP and 1.22 in FNLP] and leg press (ES of 0.92 in NLP and 0.98 in FNLP) only in the periodized groups. In six-minute walk test, the magnitude of the aerobic fitness improved in all groups (ES of 1.02 in NP, 1.33 in UP and 0.54 in FNLP). In conclusion, the present study showed that periodized models could induce significant improvements on muscle strength in active postmenopausal women. In the ACE gene, there was a statistical difference between the groups from pre to post supine (ID / DD: 18.6%, II: 8.3%). Relationships among soil properties, crop yield, protein, and response to nitrogen fertilizer application in an undulating landscape in south central Saskatchewan2014 October 1900 (has links)
A field experiment initiated in spring 2012 was established to assess the relationships between grain yield, grain protein and soil properties including elevation, electrical conductivity, pH, and organic carbon in an undulating landscape. Grain protein can reflect the balance of nitrogen (N) relative to other yield limiting factors. The objective of this study was to 1) assess relationships between soil properties, crop yield and protein content in an undulating landscape in south-central Saskatchewan, and 2) determine feasibility of using protein content along with yield and soil data in identifying variable rate N application zones. In 2012, wheat, canola and peas were seeded. Soil samples and harvest measurements were taken from two transects in each field area. Wheat, canola and pea yields ranged from 882 to 2554, 1143 to 2342, and 839 to 3122 kg ha-1 respectively, while protein content for wheat, canola and peas ranged from 10.5 to 14.4, 14.2 to 20.6 and 14.5 to 17.7 percent respectively. Protein in wheat was positively correlated with pH in the 30-60 cm depth and negatively correlated with electrical conductivity in the 30-60 cm depth. Protein in canola was positively correlated with organic carbon in the 0-30 cm depth. Wheat yield was positively correlated with organic carbon in the 0-30 cm depth. Pea yield was negatively correlated with electrical conductivity in the 0-30 and 30-60 cm depths. In spring 2013, wheat was seeded on canola and pea stubble and canola seeded on wheat stubble with varied N rates on one side of each transect with a constant N rate on the other. Greater mean yields were observed from the varied N rate versus the control in the canola-wheat (3163 vs 2256 kg ha-1) and wheat-pea (4716 vs 4155 kg ha-1) rotations. A negative yield from the varied N rate versus the control was observed in the wheat-canola (2216 vs 3012 kg ha-1) rotation. However, these yield differences were not significant at p < 0.05.

Comparing linear and undulating periodisation for improving and maintaining muscular strength qualities in womenKok, Lian-Yee January 2006 (has links)
[Truncated abstract] Resistance training is increasingly popular for improving strength qualities such as hypertrophy, maximal strength, endurance and power. Although many resistancetraining programmes now adhere to the concept of periodisation, the number of studies examining its structure and design are few, and there are just a handful of studies that have examined periodised training for the maintenance of strength and power. Even rarer, are periodised resistance-training studies that utilise female subjects. Previous studies have compared non-periodised training regimens such as Progressive Resistance Exercise (PRE), and the two main models of periodisation, Linear Periodisation (LP) and Undulating Periodisation (UP). Results are inconclusive as to whether the efficacy of the periodised training programmes were due to the manipulation of training variables such as volume and intensity, or that training programmes with higher doses of volume induced better training responses. However, to make effective comparisons between training programmes, the training volume or workload (total load lifted x total repetitions) and training intensity have to be equated between the groups under examination. While the intensities (percentage of one-repetition maximum, 1 RM) for improving strength qualities such as hypertrophy and maximal strength have general consensus among resistance-training practitioners, there exists disagreement over the intensity that should be used during the training of power. Thus, it is important to first identify the load for power training before comparisons can be made between LP and UP programmes using equal training volumes. ... The final study found that adhering to two UP maintenance training programmes with equalised volumes and intensities twice a week increased upper-body strength and maintained lower-body strength adequately across a 3-wk phase. The results from these studies support previous results that suggest training programmes with higher workloads and repetitions produce superior strength and power adaptations, and it is not specifically the variation of training volume and intensity within a periodised programme that improves strength qualities. Thus, both periodised programmes used in this thesis can be recommended for untrained and moderatelytrained women as both LP and UP were found to be similarly effective for increasing upper- and lower-body hypertrophy, strength and power.

Développement d'un modèle numérique de couplage fluide-structure appliqué au cas d'une pompe à membrane ondulante / Development of a numerical model using fluid-structure interaction method apply to an undulating membrane pumpSong, Mengdi 20 June 2013 (has links)
The numerical simulation of fluid-structure interaction (FSI) by the finite element method has been studied in the context of an incompressible and inviscid flow interacting with a very flexible structure. The numerical models developed in this work are based on a partitioned FSI approach. An improvement based on a compensation of the added-mass effect is proposed during the PhD research in order to ensure the convergence and the stability of the partitioned coupling scheme for all fluids regardless of its density. This simple correction requires to estimate the added-mass matrix and to modify slightly the iterative algorithm. The proposed methods were validated by comparing with analytical solutions for several academic cases and are applied to a novel pumping technology, which is applicable to all kinds of fluid (gas, liquid, slurry...). The main objective is to provide a better understanding about its operations and to improve the designing of pump. The methods and the validation cases are published in an article which has been accepted by the scientific review Computers & Fluids. They were also presented during the international conference ACE-X2012 in Istanbul and have been accepted and scheduled for oral presentation during the national conference CSMA-2013 in Giens.

Untersuchungen zur Strömungs-Struktur Interaktion an dynamisch bewegten, flexiblen OberflächenKunze, Sebastian 10 August 2011 (has links) (PDF)
The experimental investigations presented herein explain the behavioural adaptation of fish called entrainment for the first time. The results confirm a balance of lift-, drag- and a suction-force, explaining the reduction of locomotive energy. Furthermore, flow measurements around an undulating membrane affirm an oscillation between laminar and turbulent flow over one period of the motion and that this oscillation decreases the pressure- and drag-force of the towed membrane. Experiments on thin and flexible flaps attached at the lee-side of a cylinder, show that the flaps alter the natural vortex separation cycle in such a way that the vortices do not shed in a staggered side-by-side arrangement but in line in a row with the cylinder wake axis. Thus, flow fluctuations are reduced by 42% in stream-wise - and 35% in transversal direction at best, compared to a reference case without hairy-flaps. Finally, investigations on the flow around and on the kinematics of two flexible cylinders in a tandem arrangement demonstrate a synchronisation of their motion (lock-in), resulting in the destruction of the vortex-street behind the second cylinder.
