A Workflow Visual Modeler and Its Interface to Existing Workflow Management Systems

Chaturvedi, Jyoti 01 January 2008 (has links)
The rapid growth and complexity of today's businesses have created a need for business process management approaches that will promote the efficient functioning of these organizations. Users of business process management tools greatly benefit from using visual process modeling capabilities. Cross-business interaction sets forth the need for standardization of notations in designing these models. The goal of this thesis is to study state of the art business process management notations and state of the art diagramming frameworks associated with building a Visual Modeler that can be easily integrated with existing workflow management systems. This thesis presents a Visual Modeler that has been created based on the research findings. Two case studies are presented, which show how the modeler has been effectively integrated as part of two completely different workflow management systems.

Predicting Class Life Cycle Maintenance Effort Based on Class Complexity

Hays, Lindsey B. 01 January 2007 (has links)
In the software industry today many programmers spend countless hours maintaining existing Java programs. The cost of code maintenance affects a company in many ways such as the budget, time management and resources. Making management decisions regarding these issues could be assisted, if maintenance cost of Java classes could be predicted. The goal of this thesis was to create a new model predicting the maintenance effort based on the Java class complexity. It seems clear the complexity of a Java class can directly relate to the amount of time it will take to perform maintenance on the class. To develop the new maintenance effort model, a test bed of Java classes was assembled representing a sample of Java classes from the workplace. Then a variety of Java class metrics were calculated using these classes. Using the backward elimination process of regression analysis in SPSS, a new model was created predicting maintenance effort. The metrics that best predicted maintenance effort were the depth of an inheritance tree, the number of times a class has been deployed to the customer and the lines of code. Together, these metrics together were able to predict 85% of the maintenance effort on the set of Java classes tested.

Creative Dramatics in a Bilingual-Bicultural Classroom for Vocabulary Growth and Creativity

Koopman, Mireya U 01 January 1979 (has links)
The primary objective of this study is to introduce Creative Dramatics as a tool for effective English language instruction in the Lake Shore Junior High Bilingual Center of the Duval County Schools. Therefore, the ultimate purpose of this study is to develop the English vocabulary of these students, which will in turn, increase their level of understanding and performance in English. A modified version of the Hoffman (1934) Bilingual Schedule has been applied for measurement. In order to develop a meaningful vehicle for the project, an original ten-part play was written by the author. It is called: "Journey to the Hatto Grosso." This play is designed to promote the feelings of adventure present in every adolescent, and to awaken his/her self-identity.

A Guide for Mainstreaming the Emotionally Disturbed Child into the Regular Classroom

Clifton, Rosemary 01 January 1979 (has links)
The emotionally disturbed child has a definite place in the normal classroom setting. It is the purpose of this project to help the classroom teacher determine the place in the classroom for the disturbed child and to help the child to learn effectively. This learning should include not only the academic areas, but also the mental or emotional areas. This project will attempt to present proven strategies to aid in this learning situation.

An Integrated Listening Skills Program for the Kindergarten Class

Diamond, Bonita Duggan 01 January 1979 (has links)
This study will attempt to develop a Listening Skills Curriculum in the areas of auditory discrimination, auditory sequencing ability, and grammatic completion for the purpose of improving auditory comprehension. These three skills are components of auditory comprehension. Auditory discrimination and auditory sequencing ability have been chosen as two skills to develop in this program because past research indicates that improvement in these skills does correlate with improvement in auditory comprehension. Grammatic completion is a modified form of auditory closure in which the student completes the sentence with the grammatically preferred inflectional ending. It is expected that exercises in this skill will result in an improvement of the students’ understanding of standard spoken English.

Investigation of the Responsive and Initiative Dimensions in the Client-Therapist Relationship in Gestalt and Behavior Therapy

Pierce, Lynda M 01 January 1977 (has links)
Research findings to the present have indicated the responsive and initiative dimensions to be important in the therapeutic process in influencing positive outcome; yet, investigators of current therapeutic approaches have not discussed how these dimensions might be integrated into their particular orientation. Therefore, a review of the literature investigating emphasis on the responsive and initiative dimensions in the major theoretical approaches seems warranted. This procedure involves superimposing Carkhuff’s theoretical model, developed for facilitation of therapeutic outcome, upon certain of the therapeutic approaches.

The Desegregation of a Historically Black High School in Jacksonville, Florida

Poppell, Judith Bockel 01 January 1998 (has links)
This historical study examines the desegregation of a historically African- American high school during the period between 1965-1975. The Mims v. The Duval County School Board (1971) decision brought about radical changes in the operation of the Duval County Public Schools. The mass transfer of teachers and reassignment of students as a result of the federal judge's order in this case resulted in a school system that was dramatically different from the one that previously existed. The author seeks to determine why the desegregation of William Raines High School was short-lived and questions the continued effort of the school system to desegregate this school. The author conducted a multi-faceted investigation to answer the research questions. Following a case study approach, both archival and oral data were collected and examined. Focused interviews were conducted with former William Raines High School students, faculty and parents. In addition, written documents and local newspaper accounts were studied. The oral interviews support and expand the findings of the archival documents. The findings of the study indicate that the history and traditions at William Raines High School are founded on a strong sense of pride and identity. However, changes in the school over time have resulted in a school that has lost its focus on academic excellence. In order for lasting desegregation to take place, substantive changes will be required. The pride that was the school's legacy must be restored. Excellence in all aspects of school life should be the overarching goal. PALMM.

The 1795 Rebellion in East Florida

O'Riordan, Cormac A 01 January 1995 (has links)
The 1795 rebellion in East Florida was a short lived affair, barely extending south of the St. Johns River, and resulting in the deaths of only three Spanish soldiers. Thirty-three of the sixty-seven people identified as rebels by the Spanish escaped across the St. Marys River into Georgia. The remainder were arrested and temporarily imprisoned in the Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine. Though harsh sentences were handed down by a Spanish court in 1798, none were ever carried out. Almost all of those implicated in the insurrection were Anglo settlers. Some had been in East Florida since the British period of rule (1763-1784), others had entered the province after the Spanish returned in 1784, but the majority of the rebels migrated to East Florida from the United States after 1790 when Spain relaxed immigration laws for the province. This thesis proposes that there were three main causes of the 1795 rebellion. First, it resulted from the liberalization of East Florida's immigration laws in 1790 which attracted many troublesome settlers to the province. Second, it was an eruption of the settlers' pent-up frustration with Spanish rule which impeded their prosperity and infringed upon their security. Finally, the timing of the rebellion was influenced by the activities of French revolutionary agents in Georgia and South Carolina. The most important source of information on the Second Spanish Period in East Florida (1784-1821), is the East Florida Papers deposited in the Library of Congress, microfilm copies of which are located at the PK Yonge Library at the University of Florida. These papers contain the entire collection of government documents for this period. Most are written in Spanish, but many of the bundles used in this thesis also contain letters in English written by the Anglo settlers who could not speak Spanish. The word "Anglo" is used in this thesis to describe East Florida's English-speaking settlers who resided primarily in the St. Johns, Nassau, and St. Marys river valleys. Though a few of these settlers were born in Europe, the vast majority were American-born Protestants. PALMM.

The 1960 Presidential Election in Florida: Did the Space Race and the National Prestige Issue Play an Important Role?

Babish, Randy Wade 01 January 2000 (has links)
The landmark launch of Sputnik on October 4, 1957, and the subsequent perception that the United States trailed the Soviet Union, not only in space but also in missiles, plagued the Eisenhower Administration for the rest of the decade. The Democratic Party strategy for the 1960 presidential election included using the space race, the alleged missile gap, and declining American prestige abroad to illustrate the need for new leadership in the White House. Senator John F. Kennedy, the Democratic nominee, effectively raised these issues throughout the general election to support his "New Frontier" program and won by the narrowest popular vote margin in history. Yet, using the same themes during his tour of Florida, Kennedy failed to carry the state. An influx of Republican voters from other states, the absence of crucial Democratic voting blocs, and a considerable defection of registered Democrats contributed to Vice President Richard M. Nixon's Florida victory. Analysis of major Florida newspapers revealed that Kennedy's religion, the liberal Democratic platform, referenda on proposed amendments to the state constitution, and state office races generated more interest than the space race, despite the presence of Cape Canaveral as the primary launch facility for the U.S. space program. Kennedy's religion, civil rights, and states rights emerged as the key issues for Florida voters and compelled many Democrats to vote for Nixon as the only alternative or in protest. PALMM.

Performance Evaluation of Java Web Services: A Developer's Perspective

Yang, Je-Loon 01 January 2007 (has links)
With the rapid growth of traffic on the internet, further development of the web technology upon which it is based becomes extremely important. For the evolvement of Web 2.0, web services are essential. Web services are programs that allow different computer platforms to communicate interactively across the web, without the need for extra data for interfaces and formats, such as webpage structures. Since web services are a future trend for the growth of the internet, the tools used for their development are also important. Although there are many choices of web service frameworks to choose from, developers should choose the framework that best fits their applications, based on performance, time, and effort. For this project, we compared the qualitative and quantitative metrics of four common frameworks. The four frameworks were Apache Axis, JBossWS, Codehaus XFire, and Resin Hessian. After testing, the results were statistically analyzed using the Statistical Analysis System (SAS).
