Salvador

Etnografický výzkum pixadorů: Proč brazilští sprejeři přetvářejí urbánní krajinu? / Ethnographic Research on Pixadores: Why Brazilian Taggers Transform the Urban Landscape?

Válková, Eva January 2016 (has links)
This work examines the intervention of Brazilian street artists into the public space of São Paulo metropolis. Pixadores, as they are called, are young people brought up in the poor suburbs of São Paulo. The society perceives them as "vandals" and "delinquents". However, spraying for them is an important part of their life and they do not stop spraying even after starting a family. They risk their lives and often find themselves on the brink of life and death. The aim of this work is to understand the behavior of these sprayers by using the ethnographic method and to answer the question, why is this transgressive practice important to them. Through their writings, they are highlighting their presence and are becoming a direct part of the city. On the one hand, their doing is a syndrome of social problems in the context of Brazilian society. On the other hand, these forms of conscious property damage may be associated with the idea of protest, the affirmation of their position in the margins of society or the respect earned from their peers. Although the residents of the poor suburbs are seen as being excluded from all forms of capital, Brazilian sprayers are, however, important political actors and their doing is reshaping the urban landscape. Prestige and respect which sprayers receive from each...

Čekyně, místní část města Přerova / Cekyne, district of Prerov

Hlavičková, Alžběta January 2016 (has links)
The village of Cekyne is officially registered as a district of the city of Prerov. Village centre consists of the square which is the oldest part of the village. This work is mainly focused on revitalization of the square. It contains small urban interventions like lamps, bus stop, greenery and one major architectural element - community housing for seniors. Until early 1980’s, there’re country houses surrounding the square from all sides. Since then, there’s been a self-service shop which disrupts the rural character of the village. Today the shop is closed and the building, where the shop sited, is deteriorating. The condition of this building and disturbed appearance of the square were the main reasons why I decided to bring a new life to the village centre through the community house for seniors. The concept of the community house is based on typical country houses which had formed the village square in the past. The community house is intended for active old generation as well as people who need professional care. Neighborly ties are the mainstay of this community housing.

Living the Downtown: The era of new neighborhood cities

Rewandkar, Prathamesh Pradip 03 February 2023 (has links)
Washington, DC, is one of the most stunning and vital cities globally. It is not just because of historical sites, monuments, and political power, but it is a home for a diverse population and an increasingly diverse economy. Almost twenty years ago, the city planning department envisioned the plan of "Living Downtown," which is now significantly applied as a "mixed-use development" in the central Washington district. Looking back to downtown DC's history, central Washington is changing enormously from commercial to residential and Mixed-used sectors. Now it is essential to consider the reflection of those changes on the city's urban fabric and street life. / Master of Science / Downtown, in 2017, was the most important job center and home to a total of 91 million square feet. Almost 78% is occupied with office spaces, and the rest of the area is open for people to visit as a "public space." However, the recent COVID pandemic wave and remote-friendly residential apartments spark the need for living-working architecture in urban cities. I believe this is when urbanized locations like "downtown of Washington DC" need to be updated with vibrant urban life that enhances the accessibility, performance, beauty of sidewalks, and innovative infrastructure in the public spaces to elevate the human experience of the built environment. Thesis Design- "living the downtown, the era of new neighborhood streets" is going to be a new change in the street life of the living city. The research question is focused on- "What is the future of downtown streets for new neighborhoods?" describing and analyzing the concept, pedestrian behavior, and challenges of one of the vital streets in the downtown. Considering the upcoming changes in the downtown's zoning and observing one of the versatile streets in the town, my design interventions will change the point of view of the existing pedestrian life as a reflection of an adjacent building and enhance the urban fabric of the city to make it walkable, Not just to walk but to live there.

Redes e ruas - ocupações híbridas na cidade de São Paulo / Networks and streets - hybrid occupations in the city of São Paulo

Benatti, Nayara Araujo 21 September 2018 (has links)
The research analyzes the urban interventions carried out in Largo da Batata by the movement A Batata Precisa de Você and at Avenida Paulista with the Paulista Aberta program. The two movements have had their demands broadened since the Manifestations of June 2013 with discussions on issues such as the right to the city, occupation of public spaces and an urban agenda in defense of greater participation of civil society. Establishing new dialogues between actions in physical spaces and in social networks, having tactical urbanism and its similar as an occupation strategy, the two cases are analyzed during the period of 2013 to 2017 following their modes of action in the two platforms, actors involved, its limits and potentials.

Memória e silenciamento nos Arcos do Bixiga / Memory and silencing at the Arcos do Bixiga

Vargas, Diego Vasconcellos 22 March 2019 (has links)
Justifica-se essa pesquisa, a partir da identificação do uso de argumentos relacionados à memória coletiva como base para justificar políticas públicas voltadas para o atendimento dos interesses do setor imobiliário, em detrimento do interesse histórico e social / This research investigates the process that led to the transformation of the Arcos do Bixiga into a monument of the city of São Paulo in the late 1980s. It aims to identify which memories were silenced in the process of claiming the area where the Arcos are located, and how the public authority managed to serve its interests through public policies, to the detriment of the local residents\' interests. An attempt is made to map and interpret the facts, as well as the actions of each group of actors involved in the process, at first, through a literature review concerning the main notions related to collective memory, the realms of memory and politics of memory. Therefrom through an extensive documentary research, employing news from newspapers and semi-structured interviews as main sources, a historical contextualization was attempted, followed by an empirical analysis, connecting the reviewed notions to the gathered data. This research is justified by the acknowledgement of the use of arguments related to collective memory as a base to justify public policies directed to the serving of the real state industrys interests, to the detriment of a historical and social interest

Intervenções contemporâneas no Bixiga: fissuras urbanas e insurgências. / Contemporary interventions in Bixiga : urban cracks and insurgencies.

Camila Teixeira Gonçalves 06 May 2016 (has links)
Overlapping layers by time gives the contemporary metropolis different readings, different \"cities within a city\" that open to closer look the passerby. The traditional Bixiga located predominantly in Bela Vistas district in the city of São Paulo is home to several \"forgotten\" structures, fragmented spaces, excluded, forgotten in contemporary urban life; but also plays host to social disputes expressed, among other means, by urban entrepreneurialism processes and consequent gentrification and spectacle of his historicism. This paper aims to highlight the relationships and confront the boundaries between preservationists and renovating successful interventions in the neighborhood between the late 1960s and 2014 that are presented as generating lines or mitigation of dense urban cracks - which often have the commodified culture in its material basis [architecture and urban fabric] and intangible [social dynamics that particularize the areas of the cities]. The intent is to allow the analysis of the changes and the actors involved in the production of local urban landscape, which paradoxically weighs about 1- singular identities locus, daily experienced and preserved in the memory of residents, sensitizing new or usual collective experiences that aim to legitimize protection of real and specific local interests; and 2- the trivialization of space, less the symbolic structures of the community, reduced to mere consumer product. The approached context lights itself with cases of major roads renovations that directly affected the Bixigas urban structure occurred when deployments, initially, of the Nove de Julho avenue and, latter, of the 23 de Maio avenue and the Leste-Oeste Link; the Vila Itororó, which currently is living through revitalization processes before numerous clashes between residents and the Municipality; and the Teatro Oficina passing by critics and political debates about the commercial destination of its surroundings by a private company and how they instigate the critical awareness or even the imaginary awareness of the inhabitants opposite the identification of spatiality and unique customs cultural rehearsals, social, artistic and collective scenarios wishing to recognize genuine local identities or insert the current scenic theatrical practices of the city, which incorporate cultural activities. Thus, the research brings to light reflections on interventions in metropolitan downtown areas, linking historical, social, cultural, urban and perceptive aspects of the city; and evaluating the density of the lost urban strata, persevering or redeemed. Even being critical of the (lack of) current urban vitality, this work identifies that still beats in the Bixigas social fabric the will to preserve the remaining structures of its formation, which go far beyond the historic buildings affected, but holds and settles in social relations present there.

Praça Roosevelt, centro de São Paulo: intervenções urbanas e práticas culturais contemporâneas / Praça Roosevelt, Sao Paulo downtown: contemporary urban and cultural interventions

Kelly Yumi Yamashita 08 May 2013 (has links)
Through observing the experience of Praca Roosevelt in its urban and cultural dimensions under the perspective of its practices and relations with urban interventions, this work analyzes the processes, ways of using public space, and conflicts, which are intrinsic to the production of urban space in Sao Paulo city, as well as the role of culture in this process. This work is committed to this narrow scope of Praca Roosevelt, not aiming to have a broader (or absolute) portray of it. However, I hope that this work sheds light on the ways through which urban interventions have been thought and creates new perspectives on the ways of occupying Praca Roosevelt, especially in the last decade including its reinauguration (2000-2012). The recognition of Praca Roosevelt as a scenario that mobilizes new and old contradictions provides the creation of a set of questions about urban phenomena and possible understandings of modes of construction and meanings of the city. At the same time that an analysis of Praca Roosevelt is here developed, an equivalent analysis of Sao Paulo city emerges.
