Marques Rebelo: um modernista carioca e esquecido / Marques Rebelo: a forgotten modern author in Rio de JaneiroRenata Ribeiro Scaramella 30 July 2007 (has links)
O presente estudo propõe a investigação da inscrição de Marques Rebelo na tradição da narrativa urbana carioca e a verificação de sua inserção nas linhas gerais do movimento modernista da década de 30. A fim de situar o referido movimento, procedeu-se à contextualização histórica da década de 30 no mundo, no Brasil e no Rio de Janeiro. O tão declarado resgate da tradição literária no romance de 30 foi estudado a partir do diálogo que o autor estabelece com Manuel Antônio de Almeida, João do Rio e Lima Barreto. Marques Rebelo teve seus romances estudados, ainda, em cotejo com o romance Salgueiro, de seu contemporâneo Lúcio Cardoso. Priorizando os romances Marafa e A estrela sobe, de Marques Rebelo, a pesquisa teve, entre outros objetivos, o de verificar a presença, na obra do autor, tanto das tendências mais significativas do romance de 30, quanto dos traços que deram forma à tradição da narrativa urbana carioca / This study proposes the investigation on how Marques Rebelo is inscribed in the carioca urban narrative, and the survey on how he is related to the general lines of the Modernist movement of the 1930s. The historical frame of reference of the 1930s in the world, in Brazil and in Rio de Janeiro was carried out In order to situate the said movement. The often mentioned rescue of the literary tradition in the novel of the 30s was studied in the dialogue that the author develops with Manuel Antônio de Almeida, João do Rio and Lima Barreto. Marques Rebelos novels were also studied through their comparison with the novel Salgueiro, written by the contemporary author Lúcio Cardoso. By prioritizing the novels Marafa and A estrela sobe, by Marques Rebelo, this research work was directed to several objectives, among which was the examination of the presence of the most meaningful trends of the novel of the 30s in the authors production, and the search of the traits that shaped the tradition of the carioca urban narrative.

This very writing is examining the two ultimate books "Mlýn na mumie" from the talented Petr Stančík, and "Sedmikostelí" and "Lord Mord" from the extremely obscure Miloš Urban. The main and most significant purpose of this work is to find and distinguish characteristics of each author, diving deeper into their unique styles, finding possible similarities while trying to learn about one of the very few raw original writing styles. Despite the books being multi-genre, they do try to characterize the exact genres along the way, after a proper introduction of the authors themselves, of course. The genres appearing in these books are clearly shown in individual excerpts below original text. A dominant part of my work is an analysis of the time space and the main character or hero if you prefer - again shown in excerpts as key parts of novels. Towards the end you can find the so-called great myth of the nation as a frequently repeated topic. By the conclusion of this work is a final comparison of previous analyses.

Der nordirische Autor Glenn Patterson (geboren 1961) hat sich als Städteschrifsteller und zeitgenössischer Chronist seiner Heimatstadt Belfast einen Namen gemacht. In seinen Texten arbeitet er immer wieder die kaum greifbare Komplexität und unendliche Vielfalt Belfasts heraus. Die Arbeit zeigt auf, wie Patterson in den Romanen „Fat Lad“, „The International“, „Number 5“ und „That Which Was“ die Stadt dreidimensional konstruiert: auf einer räumlichen einer sozialen und einer geschichtlichen Ebene. Diese dreiteilige Ordnung strukturiert auch die Arbeit selbst und bezieht sich auf ein Raumverständnis, das innerhalb des „spatial turn“ theoretisiert wurde. Vornehmlich zitiert werden Edward W. Soja und Doreen Massey. Die beiden Geographen sehen Räumlichkeit, Geschichtlichkeit und Sozialität als eng miteinander verzahnt und gleichberechtigt und plädieren für eine Dekonstruktion binärer Gegensätze. Dieses interdependente Raumverständnis eignet sich sehr gut für eine Analyse von Pattersons Romanen. In ihnen stellt er Belfast in seiner facettenreichen Komplexität dar und betont die Wandelbarkeit der Stadt als ihr wichtigstes Charakteristikum. Dies erreicht er, indem er räumliche, geschichtliche und soziale Ebenen miteinander kombiniert und immer wieder binäre Gegensätze unterwandert. Damit nimmt der Schriftsteller eine besondere Rolle in der nordirischen Literatur ein, in der die sogenannten „Troubles“ immer noch sehr viel Aufmerksamkeit erhalten, und in der Belfast, als einer der Hauptschauplätze der „Troubles“, allzu oft als stagnierend, eindimensional und von zwei exklusiven Gemeinschaften dominiert beschrieben wird. Um Patterson in die literarische Tradition Nordirlands einzuordnen, gibt die Arbeit auch einen Überblick über die Geschichte des nordirischen Städteromans. Ferner analysiert sie drei Romane, die exemplarisch stehen für einige maßgebliche Entwicklungen in der Literatur des Landes und vergleicht ihre Darstellungen Belfasts mit denen in Pattersons Romanen. / The Northern Irish novelist Glenn Patterson (born 1961) has become known as an urban writer and contemporary chronicler of his hometown Belfast. In his texts he illustrates the intangible complexity and indefinite multiplicity of Belfast. The thesis shows how Patterson in his novels “Fat Lad”, “The International”, “Number 5” and “That Which Was” constructs the city threefold: spatially, socially and historically. This three-dimensional order also structures the thesis itself and refers to an understanding of space as theorized during the so called “spatial turn”. The thesis explicitly utilises concepts of Edward W. Soja and Doreen Massey. The two social geographers see the spatial, the temporal and the social as closely interdependent and argue for the deconstruction of binary oppositions. In the thesis this interdependent understanding of space forms the basis of an analysis of Patterson’s novels, showing how the writer represents Belfast in all its heterogeneous complexity and emphasises the city’s potential for change as its most important characteristic. He achieves this by combining spatial, temporal and social dimensions and by challenging existing binarisms. In doing so Patterson plays an important role in Northern Irish literature, which has been dominated by the “Troubles” and in which Belfast is often portrayed as stagnating, one-dimensional and inhabited by two exclusive communities. Placing Patterson within a literary tradition in Northern Ireland, the thesis gives an overview of the history of the Northern Irish urban novel. Furthermore, it analyses three novels that represent important developments in the literature of the country, and it compares the representations of Belfast in these novels with those in Patterson’s texts.

The thesis presents an analysis of the themes of the city, the journey and the pilgrim in the well known danish novel Havoc by Tom Kristiensen. The introductory part of the thesis includes a brief summary of the changes in the image of the city in the 19th and 20th century works of art and literature. Furthermore, it also focuses on the man-city relationship and stresses its reciprocity and the important role of the city in the process of the formation of individual identity. The following part of the thesis analyses the theme of the city in Havoc and focuses mainly on the influence, which the main character's feeling of alientation has on the depiction of the city in the novel. Another discussed topic is the main character's decision to intentedly reach the bottom of his existence, which is interpreted as the result of the post-world war I. urge to question and reassess the foundations of the society and its principels and values. The thesis compares and contrasts the main character's deroute with other famous litterary journeys and pilgrimages. Furthemore, it also analyses the predominant patterns of the main charcter's movement through the city and interprets its spiral course as emblematic of the main charatcer's search of identity.
