Looking up: emphasizing vertical development in PC(USA) clergy formation

Chudy, Emily Katharine 04 May 2022 (has links)
Clergy formation in the Presbyterian Church USA has traditionally focused on rigorous academic preparation for professional ministry, a process now noticeably incomplete as pastors lead through the unique challenges of ministry in 21st century US mainline protestant contexts. This project proposes a way to bridge the formation gap using presbytery-supported peer-learning cohorts for emerging and new pastors with an emphasis on vertical leadership development. Rooted in leadership theory, human development, and adult educational pedagogy, vertically focused cohorts can hone essential leadership and critical thinking capacities amid adaptive change and the complexities of ministry today for clergy and congregational thriving. / 2024-05-04T00:00:00Z

A análise da evolução das edificações construídas no centro da cidade em seu processo de reforma e verticalização, permitiu verificar como o urbanismo e a arquitetura contribuíram para a nova vida e imagem urbana pretendida no início do século XX, permitindo ainda a compreensão do papel e importância das decisões políticas e econômicas na alteração do desenho da cidade / Abstract: In the beginning of the XX century political and administrative efforts were made with the intention of change the image and the urban characteristics of Campinas, in the state of São Paulo. One of the means by the image of modernization on the city was the "Plan of Urban Development," created by engineer and architect Francisco Prestes Maia in the first half of the XX century. The goal to adapt the city to the new economic and aesthetic needs of urban development was achieved through modifications in the configuration of the urban center through laws, creation of alternate highways network systems, widening of streets, and the reconstruction of public and private buildings. The reconstruction of these buildings was mainly in the vertical direction. This work analyses the process through the vertical development in the downtown area of Campinas that reflects the vision of modernity revealing, beyond the formal and technological evolutions, new programs and ways to work and live. Through a documental research of the Municipal archives, the construction firms, and the publications of that era, it was possible to study the evolution of the vertical constructions. In addition, a field research was conducted to determine the addresses of these buildings and subsequent location of the files at the Municipal Hall, allowing for its organization by periods of 10 years, according to height and function. With the background of these constructions it is possible to understand how the implementation and evolution of these buildings occurred in the downtown area and identify those that better represent this vertical development of downtown and the different architectural styles implemented. The analyses of the evolution of these downtown buildings and the process of rebuilding and vertical development will confirm that urbanism and architecture have contributed to build a new life and urban image envisioned in the beginning of the XX century, still permitting an understanding of the role of political and economical decisions in altering the design of the city / Mestrado / Arquitetura e Construção / Mestre em Engenharia Civil

Arquitetos na cidade: espaços profissionais em expansão [Rio de Janeiro, 1925-35] / Architects in the city: expanding professional niches [Rio de Janeiro, 1925-35]

Rabelo, Clévio 16 May 2011 (has links)
This research explores the performance of the architects of Rio de Janeiro between 1925 and 1935 through the examination of some of the professional niches they occupied, expanded, and consolidated during this period of intense urban modernization and restructuring of the political and cultural scenes, both at federal and local levels. The issues presented were divided into three thematic axes, which correspond to the chapters developed. The first one encompasses predominantly political themes: the disputes between architects and engineers in order to define each ones competences, the creation of the first professional organizations, the struggle for professional regulation and transformations in the teaching activity, the rising interest in the social housing agenda, the discussions held at the urban planning field, and the emerging work opportunities at the public sector. The second chapter is about the dynamics of the cultural scene, described by the enthusiasm of the architectural press, the presence of architecture in the daily media, the close relationship between architects, artists and their organizations, and the happening of architecture expositions. The third chapter focuses in economic topics: the skyscrapers debate, the metropolitan images thought by these professionals, and the vertical development of two different areas of the city, the Center and Copacabana, this last one being the most modern neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, target of high real estate investments in which architects were involved.

Lukeš, Jakub January 2017 (has links)
The Master's thesis deals with approaches to leadership and work engagement in multicultural work environment and includes an original research of correlation between the concepts of approaches to leadership and work engagement in multicultural work groups in Prague shared service centers. The aim of this work is to identify the currently used approaches to leadership and their correlation with work engagement of employees within shared service center's multicultural working groups. The current situation of shared service centers in Czech Republic is discussed. Shared service centers represent the largest employers of expatriates living in the Czech Republic. Companies are in need of optimization of approaches to leadership due to the complexity of the multicultural work environment. This thesis focuses on the different approaches to leadership in culturally divergent work environment. The difference between leadership and management, how important it is to choose the optimal leadership style for multicultural environment, or different approaches to leadership development are discussed. Work engagement represents one of the concepts most afflicted by culturally complex work environments. Various approaches and descriptions of engagement are explained along with the possible differences in the...

The investigation of factors governing ignition and development of fires in heathland vegetation

Plucinski, Matthew Paul, Mathematics & Statistics, Australian Defence Force Academy, UNSW January 2003 (has links)
Heathlands typically experience regimes consisting of frequent and intense fires. These fire regimes play important roles in the lifecycles and population dynamics of all species in these communities. Prescribed fire is commonly applied to heathlands to minimise the risk of wildfires as well as to promote biodiversity. Ignitions in heathlands tend to either be unsustainable, or quickly develop into rapidly spreading intense fires. This presents a major problem for the application of prescribed fire and is the primary focus of this thesis. Heathland ignition has been investigated in three sections; litter ignition; vertical development of fire into the shrub layer; and horizontal spread through the shrub layer. These were studied in laboratory experiments using miniature versions of field fuels. Ignition success in litter layers was related to the dead fuel moisture content. Litter type, ignition source, and presence of wind were found to affect the range of ignitable fuel moisture contents of a litter bed. The effect of litter type was best explained by density. Dense litter beds required drier conditions for ignition than low density litter beds. The vertical development of fire into shrubs was mostly dependent on live fuel moisture content, but crown base height, presence of wind, ignition source, shrub height and the percentage of dead elevated fuel were also important. Horizontal spread of fires through shrub layers was most affected by the presence of a litter layer, with nearly all ignitions successful when there was an underlying litter fire. Fire spread would only occur in shrubs without a litter layer when the shrub layer was dense and dry, or had a substantial dead fuel component. Spread was more likely to be sustained when there was wind. Models predicting the moisture content of dead fuels were tested in heathlands, and as would be expected those that can be calibrated for different fuel types were found to have the best performance. Fuel moisture content and fuel load models were reviewed for heathlands, and a number of recommendations for future research were made.
