The Key Success Factors of Applying Video Blog in Web-based Learning

Chen, Chun-ching 25 July 2007 (has links)
This research aims to explore the application of video blog (vlog) in web based learning. The advancement of teaching technology is one of the key elements in education reform. The swift deployment of information technology, the circulation of Internet services and the proliferation of multimedia content have broaden the horizon of learning activity. Digital and video technologies have contributed to the rise of video blog services such as YouTube and the like. As the bandwidth for transmission broadens and the video service expands, everyone with a digital camera can become content generator. User-generated content makes video blog possible. Can video blog be applicable to teaching and learning activities? By conducting a thorough literature review of learning theories and information theories, this study aggregated seven dimensions comprising forty three elements. Through analytic hierarchical procedure (AHP) method, the researcher conducted the first-wave questionnaire survey to students at the Feng Chia University then selected first half elements for evaluation. The second-wave questionnaire, complemented by interview, was aimed at experts in the field, which resulted in a priority list of the elements. The research result suggests that video blog can be applicable to teaching activity indeed. When using video blog appropriately, teaching can become more lively and interesting. The most important factor still lies in how a teacher design the curriculum. Interface of design, putting in the second place in terms of importance, should be convenient, simple and easy for search. Those with higher information literacy, in the third place of importance, are more likely to use Internet for learning. The fourth important dimension is related to content formats including sound clearness, graph size and layout. This study should contribute to the education circle and curriculum production industry when considering how with which priority-setting video blog can be applied.

Expressões do(s) feminismo(s) : discussões do público com a youtuber Jout Jout

Fonseca, Paula Coruja da January 2017 (has links)
The present thesis aims at comprehending what aspects of feminisms (understanding feminism in its plurality of lines of thought) are debated by Brazilian youtuber Jout Jout and redefined by her public in the comment box. Thus, we have mapped some of youtuber’s common practices, especially regarding “vlog” making, a user-generated content format, which can be considered a consisted genre inside YouTube. Furthermore, we have also mapped public’s practices in the use of comment boxes, in order to emphasize such readings of feminism in JoutJout Prazer's channel. Our theoretical framework brings discussions between cultural studies, reception studies and cyberculture to approach YouTube, comprehended in this instance as a social network website as well as a dialogical environment, and convergence. A historical approach to the most meaningful moments of the development of feminist studies, in order to create a clearer comprehension of how it emerges nowadays, under the scope of communication logics, in YouTube channels, is presented. Therefore, we have applied virtual ethnography as methodology for research the objects under assessment, generating the following procedures: the observation of audience interactions, a compilation and analysis of qualitative data with support of information technologies (Nvivo software), and qualitative analysis. Amongst the results, we highlight Jout Jout practices concerning the “vlog” making, for example the use of semi-private spaces of the house as video set, the edition to give rhythm to her speech, the use of didactic resources and the own experience permeating the approach of the subjects. Amongst the public practices, we have emphasized the use of vernacular language, binge-watching and laughter representation. Moreover, we use public's profiles to establish speeches related to feminism, distributed in Lovers and Haters. We have attested that there is a diffuse understanding regarding feminism in the public's manifestations, increased, especially, by the lack of voice and articulation, coherence and knowledge of theory, schools of thought and movements related to feminism.

Livsstilsvloggare som förebild, inspiratör och stöd : En kvalitativ studie om hur följare uppfattar vloggare / Lifestyle-vlogger as a role model, inspirator and support

Lorentzon, Jesper, Nordin, Sofia January 2017 (has links)
The phenomenon of vlogs, short for video log, has become a part of the modern digital media landscape. It has also become a part of peoples’ lives when they follow the creators and watch their videos on a daily basis.  From the perspective of a follower, we have investigated the importance of the people behind the vlogs. More specific, the aim of the study is to examine how followers are influenced by the creator of a vlog and try to understand the relationship between them. By interviewing people aged 16-30 years, that follow at least one vlog of category lifestyle-vlog. We have examined parasocial relationships, norm-breaking and authenticity theories.   The result suggests that the parasocial relationship is insufficient to explain the relationship between a follower and the creator of a vlog. The main reasons for being followed are; entertainment, interest, inspiration and support. Moreover, we found that followers appreciate and choose vlogs that are authentic and honest. Finally, the result also indicates that there may be a difference between men and women's following of a vlogger.

From Shaky Self-Held Cameras to Professional Camera Teams -A Thematic Analysis of How YouTube Audiences Perceive the Professionalization of Vlog Production Styles

Dalmer, Nathalia January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to provide insight into how YouTube audiences perceive the professionalization of vlog production styles and what happens to the parasocial relationship between viewer and vlogger, especially in relation to authenticity, in relation to this. This is done by a thematic analysis of comments on Valeria Lipovetsky’s YouTube video “We Need To Talk”, which serves as a case study. The analysis is done in background to theories of professionalization of influencers, parasocial relationships and authenticity. The results show that there is a tension between the perceived authenticity of the vlogger and the professionalization of vlog production style that is affecting the parasocial relationship between viewer and vlogger negatively. The distinguished themes point to vlogs filmed by a camera team being perceived to resemble reality television which is making the viewers feel disconnected with the vlogger. It is revealed that the audience prefers vlogs where the vlogger is holding the camera themselves, asthat is perceived as more personal and authentic.

The role of authenticity in the process of developing the relationship between mikro-celebrities their fans

Fryčová, Markéta January 2016 (has links)
This thesis examines the role of authenticity, its elements and manifestations in the process of developing a relationship between micro-celebrities and their fans. The issue is demonstrated by the example of YouTube, the most important video-sharing site. Part of the issue is whether the YouTube content creators and their subscribers develop parasocial relationships as defined by Horton and Wohl (1956), and authenticity as an element that sets the relationship between micro-celebrities and their fans apart from the relationship between traditional celebrities and their fans. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with concepts that are associated with development of the micro-celebrity phenomenon, discusses the concepts of micro-celebrity and authenticity themselves, and expounds the parasocial relationships theory. Analysis of the role of authenticity in the process of developing the relationship between micro-celebrities and their fans is based on qualitative research that draws from interviews with micro-celebrities and their fans and the analysis of videos and comments by which viewers respond to them.
