IP-based TV (IPTV) is gradually replacing traditional means for broadcasting. A vEB-Tree based Strategy for Interactive VoD Services in P2P Networks

Tsai, Ming-te 28 August 2009 (has links)
To provide interactive operations such as fast-forward, slow-forward, switch channel, and jump function for peer-to-peer on demand video streaming is a challenge. In this thesis, we proposed a vEB-tree (van Emde Boas tree) based architecture for interactive VoD services in peer-to-peer networks. The proposed architecture assumes videos can be divided into many segments, and these segments are stored in each peer. In the architecture, it includes vEB-tree based topology, procedure of demand segment search, and a distribution scheme. It not only efficiently provides interactive operations but also reduces the control messages. Additionally, each peer stores segments based on the proposed distribution scheme to reduce the server stress. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed architecture outperforms Baton, BBTU, and VMesh in terms of jump latency, server stress, and neighbors¡¦ maintenance cost.

Performance analysis of transmission protocols for H.265 encoder

UMESH, AKELLA January 2015 (has links)
In recent years there has been a predominant increase in multimedia services such as live streaming, Video on Demand (VoD), video conferencing, videos for the learning. Streaming of high quality videos has become a challenge for service providers to enhance the user’s watching experience. The service providers cannot guarantee the perceived quality. In order to enhance the user’s expectations, it is also important to estimate the quality of video perceived by the user. There are different video streaming protocols that are used to stream from server to client. In this research, we aren’t focused on the user’s experience. We are mainly focused on the performance behavior of the protocols. In this study, we investigate the performance of the HTTP, RTSP and WebRTC protocols when streaming is carried out for H.265 encoder. The study addresses for the objective assessment of different protocols over VoD streaming at the network and application layers. Packet loss and delay variations are altered at the network layer using network emulator NetEm when streaming from server to client. The metrics at the network layer and application layer are collected and analyzed. The video is streamed from server to a client, the quality of the video is checked by some of the users. The research method has been carried out using an experimental testbed. The metrics such as packet counts at network layer and stream bitrate at application layer are collected for HTTP, RTSP and WebRTC protocols. Variable delays and packet losses are injected into the network to emulate real world. Based on the results obtained, it was found at the application layer that, out of the three protocols, HTTP, RTSP and WebRTC, the stream bitrate of the video transmitted using HTTP was less when compared to the other. Hence, HTTP performs better in the application layer. At the network layer, the packet counts of the video transmitted were collected using TCP port for HTTP and UDP port for RTSP and WebRTC protocols. The performance of HTTP was found to be stable in most of the scenarios. On comparing RTSP and WebRTC, the number of packet counts collected were more in number for RTSP when compared to WebRTC. This is because, the protocol and also the streamer are using more resources to transmit the video. Hence, both the protocols RTSP and WebRTC are performing better relatively.

Holm, Gabriella January 2014 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to gain a deeper understanding of influencing behaviours concerning individualized viewing in relation to VoD-services (Video on Demand), and how this reflects the perceived viewing behaviour in terms of habits, content and social actions. Theory: The theory that primarily underpins this study is Jacob Bjur’s thesis Transforming Audiences. Bjur’s thesis provides an analytical model of individualized viewing behaviour that has been used in this study case. The model is founded on three central tenet areas of individualization, Habitualness that ensures habits, Socialness that refers to the social space and Referential space that ensures content/selection and viewership as a referential act. Method/Material: The study is based on a qualitative research method underpinned by focus groups interviews. Results: The research demonstrates strong tendencies towards an individualised viewing behaviour in the use of VoD-services. The study participants in the study feel that the habits they practice have become more individualised because of the constant availability and the wide range of selection that VoD enables. Users of VoD tend to divide their time watching, and select content differently than their family and friends. Since the individuals who participated in the case study feel that they follow their own habits, which often are irregular and have their own content preferences, they watch their own selected content alone.

Diseño e Implementación de una Plataforma IP/TV Tipo MYTHTV, Económica y con Fines Docentes

Robles Kukuljan, Cristian David January 2008 (has links)

Polák, Karel January 2014 (has links)
Rate of pollution degradation in stream depends on its self-purification ability. Intensity of self-purification capacity differs by various streams and except other factors it is notable affected by the character of the watercourse. Due to rugged watercourse, longer detention time and more favorable conditions for resurgence the self-purification capability of restored streams is supposed to be higher than the self-purification capability of technically modified streams. In this thesis the change of water quality indicators in technically modified (923 m) and restored (264 m) reach of Haraska river (South Moravia, the Czech Republic) was investigated. Using QUAL2K software (USEPA, 2008) the water quality model was created. Comparison of changes of water quality indicator values between technically modified and restored reach was also performed (Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon test, a = 0,05), whereas statistically significant differences were observed only in inorganic and total phosphorus concentration.
