The aim of this thesis is to analyze functions and perspectives of vocational information consultant (VIC) institution in Lithuanian vocational orientation system. The research object of this thesis is activity of vocational information consultant. The objectives of the thesis are: 1. to analyze scientific sources and main educational documents, that regulate vocational orientation in Lithuania; 2. to discuss the international experience of vocational orientation development and on that ground to define the principles of VIC activity in Lithuanian vocational orientation system; 3. to explore the peculiarities of VIC activity and to prepare suggestions for VIC education and training program improvement. Research methods: •Quantitative research (questionnaire) •Statistical data analysis Conclusions: 1.Shortage of vocational information places and its uneven distribution influence insufficient accessibility of vocational information services for target groups. 2.One of the main financial and legal problems in this area is establishment and financing of VIC staff. 3.The most important skills of VIC are communication and computer literacy skills. It is necessary to include development of those skills to the VIC education and training program.

Mokinių rengimas profesinei veiklai - svarbi užduotis, tenkanti bendrojo lavinimo mokykloms. Tinkamai ir efektyviai teikiamos profesinio informavimo ir konsultavimo paslaugos gali padėti moksleiviams lengviau apsispręsti dėl būsimos profesijos pasirinkimo. Todėl svarbu išsiaiškinti mokinių požiūrį į bendrojo lavinimo mokyklose teikiamas profesinio informavimo ir konsultavimo paslaugas, kaip į svarbius veiksnius, turinčius įtakos renkantis profesiją. Tyrimo objektas: Profesinio informavimo ir konsultavimo veiksniai bendrojo lavinimo mokykloje. Tyrimo hipotezė: Tikėtina, kad bendrojo lavinimo mokykloje organizuojama, mokinių profesiniam informavimui ir konsultavimui skirta, veikla yra lemiamas veiksnys, mokiniams priimant profesijos pasirinkimo sprendimą. Tyrimo tikslas: Atskleisti bendrojo lavinimo mokyklose teikiamų profesinio informavimo ir konsultavimo paslaugų turinį bei prieinamumą, siekiant nustatyti 10-tose ir 12-tose klasėse besimokančių moksleivių požiūrį į šių veiksnių naudą renkantis profesiją. Darbe analizuojama problema yra susijusi su šiandieninėmis profesijos pasirinkimo galimybėmis, kurios labai plačios ir jaunuoliams sunku pasirinkti tinkamą, ypač nežinant darbo rinkos poreikių, savo tinkamumo profesijai ir pan. Manoma, jog baigiamųjų klasių mokiniai neretai renkasi bet kokią studijų programą ar profesiją tam, kad įstotų ir „gautų diplomą”. Todėl taip svarbu padėti jaunuoliui tikslingai pasirinkti profesiją, nes pilnavertis, darbu patenkintas ir profesionaliai jį atliekantis pilietis yra ir kompetentingos, brandžios visuomenės atspindys. Prie jaunuolių profesinio informavimo ir teisingo karjeros pasirinkimo prisideda ir PIC. T. y. mokyklose PIC vykdoma veikla turėtų įgyti išliekamąją vertę ir teikti kokybiškas, tikslingas jaunuoliams taip reikalingas konsultacijas profesijos klausimais. Tyrimo objektas – profesinių informavimo centrų darbuotojų veiklos ypatumai. / The present thesis analyses a problem related to modern day potential of a profession selection, which is very extensive and young adults find it difficult to choose a suitable one especially being unaware of labor market needs, suitability to a certain profession and etc. It is believed that young people often choose a profession or a job requiring skills which they do not have or cannot realize their talents. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance to assist a young person in properly selecting a profession as full-fledged person, content with his work and performing one’s duties professionally is a reflection of a competent and mature society. Vocational information center (VIC) adds their contribution in providing vocational consultations for young adults and advice on selection of a career, i.e. implemented activities of VIC at schools should gain an enduring value and provide qualitative purposeful consultations so necessary to youth in regards to their profession.
