The main purpose of this study was to determine game model evolution on female volleyball under-age divisions. It was analyzed how each category wins the point and how the game actions that occur before the attack affects the performance on complex I. We analyzed three games of the four best ranked female teams in infantil, infanto-juvenil and juvenil divisions, participants of the city of São Paulo Championship in 2009. The data base was captured using video system. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, by obtaining frequencies and percentages, and inferential statistics by using chi- square and Phi Cramer, in order to verify the possible relationship of dependency between the study variables. Descriptive analysis revealed that the infantil division obtain more points with the errors of the opponent and the infanto-juvenil and juvenil divisions obtain more points with the attack. As players advance through the age divisions, there is a trend toward increasing the occurrence of perfect receptions, the use of jump sets, the attack against a broken double block, the attack in zone 2 as well as an increase in the occurrence of attacks of 1st and 2nd tempo and the attack point. Moreover, we observed a decrease in the use of overhead set without jump, attack against a compact double block, the use of 3rd tempo attack and attack that provide continued rally. For the inferential analysis we observed a statistically significant relationship of dependency between attack result and the serve reception result, the set zone, set technique, the result of the set, as well as the attack zone, the attack tempo and type of attack for all categories

This position is considered the most important in the team, reason why we may conclude that physical, technical, tactical and psychological characteristics are very important in a setter. The sample was composed of adult teams (male and female) coaches and athletes from \"SUPERLlGA\" - Brazilian National Championship. The methodology used was a semi structured interview. For the qualitative analysis was used the CSS (Collective Subject Speech) , a qualitative technical research that is being developed in the Health Area since 1997 and that is helpful for any study involving thinking, altitude, feeling, social representation, beliefs, expressed by verbal speech. The answers computing (collective thinking as qualitative addition) was applied at this time, and consists of joining the same sense answers as well as the incidence of the central idea occurrence in the study. Among all the questions made in this presentation one carne up: 11 What would be the most important characteristics (physical, technical, tactical and psychological) that a setter must have to acquire a high performance profile and reach a National team? \"

Tapering for Strength-Power Individual Event and Team Sport AthletesBazyler, Caleb 01 August 2016 (has links)
The overall purpose of this dissertation was to address mechanistic and performance changes following a peaking phase in individual event and team sport strength-power athletes. This purpose was addressed by conducting 4 separate investigations with track and field athletes, volleyball athletes, and a national level weightlifter. The following are the primary findings from these investigations. Division I collegiate throwers increased competition throwing performance, jumping performance, and preserved muscle architecture characteristics following an overreach and taper. There were moderate decreases in division I female collegiate volleyball athlete’s vastus lateralis muscle thickness with no statistical changes in jumping performance following a taper with no prior overreach in. There were moderate to very large differences in countermovement jump height supercompensation during the peaking phase in favor of the returners over the new players on a similar team of female volleyball athletes. Changes in serum concentrations of inflammatory, hypertrophic and endocrine markers corresponded with alterations in training volume-load and partially explained changes in jump, dynamic mid-thigh pull, and weightlifting performance following multiple competition phases in a national level weightlifter. Additionally, vastus lateralis cross-sectional area can be maintained following a competition phase in a high level weightlifter provided large changes in body mass are not attempted close to competition. The findings of these investigations support the use of overreach and tapering for strength-power athletes and provide an underlying biochemical, morphological, and biomechanical basis for the observed changes in performance.

Individual differences in imagery ability and its effects on reducing warm-up decrement of the Volleyball serveSpargo, Mark, n/a January 1998 (has links)
The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effectiveness of using imagery in
eliminating post-rest warm-up decrement (WUD) in the volleyball serve, and to assess
whether individual differences in imagery ability mediated any possible reductions in WUD.
Thirty-nine State level volleyball players were placed into one of 3 groups, High Imagery,
Control, and Low Imagery, based on their scores on the Vividness of Movement Imagery
Questionnaire (VMIQ). Players served 15 balls at a designated target area, rested for 10
minutes, and then attempted 5 more serves. During the last 2 minutes of the rest period, the
players in the High and Low Imagery groups engaged in imagery of successful serving every
10 seconds, for a total of 12 repetitions. The Control group continued to read a magazine
article. To ensure adherence to the imagery instructions, players were evaluated at
completion of testing. Results revealed the High Imagery group was significantly better on
serving performance post-rest, however there was no significant differences when
comparing the mean of the last 3 pre-rest trials with the first post-rest trial. The interaction
approached significance (p_= .091) and suggested that the High Imagery group may have
benefited from the use of imagery. These findings have implications for the Nacson and
Schmidt's (1971) activity-set hypothesis that states that an appropriate task will reduce
WUD. It may need to include the effect individual differences, such as imagery ability, may
have on the performance of that task.

Comparison of bone density in female vollyball players and age-matched non-athletesEllis, Tiffany A. January 2005 (has links)
Osteoporosis is a significant public health problem for individuals over age 50 (55% are at risk), particularly for women. A key preventive strategy is increasing peak bone mass in youth. Limited information exists on the role that competitive sport activities can play in developing bone mass. Volleyball is a popular sport for girls and involves high impact activity and plyometric training. The purpose of the study was to compare bone mineral density (BMD) between high school and college competitive volleyball players to age matched controls. Relationships between BMD and age, and years of competitive play were also analyzed. The calcium intake, and time spent jumping in practice (volleyball players only) for each group were also assessed. Subject inclusion criteria were: no eating disorders, not amenorrhoeic, did not use calcium supplements (doctor recommended). The volleyball players followed the criteria above and played volleyball >7 months in a year. Subjects were 13 high school volleyball players (HSVB), 10 high school non-athletes (HSN), and 13 college volleyball players (CVB), and 13 college nonathlees (CN). The mean (+ SD) age, weight, body fat percentage, calcium intake, and years of competitive volleyball for the HSVB players were 16.2 + 1.3 yr, 67.5 + 8.0 kg, 27.2 ± 5.3 %, 1269.7 ± 581.7 mg, and 7.2 ± 1.2 yr. and for the CVB players were 19.5 + 1.0 yr, 74.2 ± 9.2 kg, 28.4 ± 4.7 %, 1059.6 ± 462.2 mg, and 8.5 ± 2.3 yr. respectively. The mean (+SD) age, weight, body fat percentage, and calcium intake for the HSN 16.2 ± 1.3 yr, 66.8 ± 12.4 kg, 34.7 + 6.1 %, and 857.9 + 469.5 mg and for the CN were 19.5 ± 1.0 yr, 73.9 + 9.1 kg, 40.1 + 4.4 %, and 1216.4 + 551.9 mg. Dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) was used to determine the body composition and BMD at the following regions: AP spine, dual femur, and total body. The only significant descriptive difference was in percent body fat (P>0.05-0.01). The significant difference (P>0.01) between the athletes and non-athletes occurred in the AP spine (1.38 + 0.1 g.cm-2 and 1.20 ± 0.1 g•cm-2), dual femur (1.22 + 0.1 g•cm 2 and 1.05 ± 0.1 g•cm-2), and total body measurements (1.26 ± 0.1 g•cm 2 and 1.16 ± 0.1 ?cm-2). The athleticism and age was not significant for the BMD in the AP spine, total body, and dual femur. Likewise, the correlations between years playing volleyball and jumping in practice were not significant. The correlation between calcium intake in volleyball players and non-athletes showed no significant difference. In conclusion BMD is higher in volleyball players compared to non-athletes however there was no difference between the college and high school volleyball players. / School of Physical Education, Sport, and Exercise Science
