Planejamento de redes de distribuição secundária. Uma modelagem por programação dinâmica. / Low voltage electric power distribution planning: a dynamic programming model.

Kagan, Nelson 05 May 1988 (has links)
This work focuses on a method for the Planning of Secondary Distribution Systems. The basic model deals with dynamic programming in order to get an optimized design - Distribution Transformer and Secondaries - which presents the lowest operation cost within service quality limits in order to supply growing load on a restricted area. Initially the basic concepts of the method are presented, including the establishment of the data base, planning criteria and methodology in order to get operating conditions at secondary networks. Concerning this method, three computational models were established. These models differ form each other as far as some of the simplified hypothesis are eliminated. The first two models consider a uniform distribution of loads along the secondary system. The third model establishes a randomic distribution of loads on the restricted studying area. Following an application example, comparison is proceeded among the developed models. Eventually the conclusions, some possible applications of the method on Distribution system studies and research topics for further developments are settled.

A Novel Methodology To Classify The ADSS Cable Ranking

January 2011 (has links)
abstract: All-dielectric self-supporting (ADSS) fiber optic cables are used for data transfer by the utilities. They are installed along high voltage transmission lines. Dry band arcing, a phenomenon which is observed in outdoor insulators, is also observed in ADSS cables. The heat developed during dry band arcing damages the ADSS cables' outer sheath. A method is presented here to rate the cable sheath using the power developed during dry band arcing. Because of the small diameter of ADSS cables, mechanical vibration is induced in ADSS cable. In order to avoid damage, vibration dampers known as spiral vibration dampers (SVD) are used over these ADSS cables. These dampers are installed near the armor rods, where the presence of leakage current and dry band activity is more. The effect of dampers on dry band activity is investigated by conducting experiments on ADSS cable and dampers. Observations made from the experiments suggest that the hydrophobicity of the cable and damper play a key role in stabilizing dry band arcs. Hydrophobic-ity of the samples have been compared. The importance of hydrophobicity of the samples is further illustrated with the help of simulation results. The results indi-cate that the electric field increases at the edges of water strip. The dry band arc-ing phenomenon could thus be correlated to the hydrophobicity of the outer sur-face of cable and damper. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.S. Electrical Engineering 2011

CLASSIFICATION OF HIGH IMPEDANCE FAULTS, INCIPIENT FAULTS AND CIRCUIT BREAKER RESTRIKES DURING CAPACITOR BANK DE-ENERGIZATION IN RADIAL DISTRIBUTION FEEDERS

Almalki, Mishrari Metab 01 May 2018 (has links)
Monitoring of abnormal events in a distribution feeder by using a single technique is a challenging task. Many abnormal events can cause unsafe operation, including a high impedance fault (HIF) caused by a downed conductor touch ground surface, an incipient fault (IF) caused by partial breakdown to a cable insulation, and a circuit breaker (CB) malfunction due to capacitor bank de-energization to cause current restrikes. These abnormal events are not detectable by conventional protection schemes. In this dissertation, a new technique to identify distribution feeder events is proposed based on the complex Morlet wavelet (CMW) and on a decision tree (DT) classifier. First, the event is detected using CMW. Subsequently, a DT using event signatures classifies the event as normal operation, continuous and non-continuous arcing events (C.A.E. and N.C.A.E.). Additional information from the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) can be used to precisely identify the event. The proposed method is meticulously tested on the IEEE 13- and IEEE 34-bus systems and has shown to correctly classify those events. Furthermore, the proposed method is capable of detecting very high impedance incipient faults (IFs) and CB restrikes at the substation level with relatively short detection time. The proposed method uses only current measurements at a low sampling rate of 1440 Hz yielding an improvement of existing methods that require much higher sampling rates.

Elbilens påverkan på Falunslågspänningsnät vid hemmaladdning / The impact of home charging of electrical vehicles at Falun's low-voltage distribution grid

Hammarlund, Tomas January 2019 (has links)
The number of electrical vehicles in Sweden are increasing faster for every year and the demand of charging them at home is growing as well. This requires high delivery reliability and a stable low-voltage distribution grid. In this master thesis three different low-voltage networks are modelled and simulated together with load which corresponds home charging of electrical vehicles (EV) to analyse if the grid is able to handle these kinds of stresses. Information of the different grids were gathered from Falu Energi & Vatten and modelled in Matlab together with EV charging loads generated in a separate program. The electricity consumption data used in the simulations were measured at the transformer in each grid. A regression analysis of the consumption data were preformed to calculate values which corresponds to a worst case scenario. The results show that the low-voltage distribution grid in Falun is well dimensioned and can handle these possible future loads even in the worst constructed scenario.

Analysis Of Conventional Low Voltage Power Line Communication Methods For Automatic Meter Reading And The Classification And Experimental Verification Of Noise Types For Low Voltage Power Line Communication Network

Danisman, Batuhan 01 February 2009 (has links) (PDF)
In this thesis, the conventional low voltage power line communication methods is investigated in the axis of automated meter reading applications and the classification and experimental verification of common noise types for low voltage power line communication network. The investigated system provides the real time transmission of electricity consumption data recorded by electricity meters, initially to a local computer via a low voltage line through a low speed PLC (Power Line Carrier) environment and subsequently to a corporate network through a high speed data transmission medium. The automated meter system provides a more effective tracking and data acquisition, a more detailed and vigorous knowledge about consumer behavior for subscriber assessment in electricity distribution in association with a brand new management and system supervision concept in electricity distribution control and management technology. The theoretical studies are experimentally verified for the Turkish low voltage power infrastructure through laboratory experiments performed in METU Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, Electrical Machines and Drives Laboratory and R&amp / D Laboratories of MAKEL facilities in Hadimk&ouml / y. The single phase voltage of the mains line between the phase and neutral is monitored to exhibit the disturbing effects of various noise sources. The resulting voltage spectrum is logged by using digital data acquisition devices in time and frequency domain. The waveforms are converted to frequency domain using the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) functions of the MATLAB. The experimental results are compared to the theoretical findings obtained through literature survey.

Wide-band modelling of an air-core power transformer winding

Van Jaarsveld, Barend Jacobus 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MScEng)-- Stellenbosch University, 2013. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The objective of this project is to develop an electromagnetic model that can be used to accurately calculate the voltage distribution in a transformer winding structure when excited with standard impulse excitation waves. This voltage distribution is required during the design stage of a power transformer to ensure that the insulation is capable of withstanding the occurring electric field stresses during these tests. This study focuses on the modelling of a single disk-type power transformer winding without the presence of an iron-core. Methods of calculating self- and mutual-inductances of transformer windings are presented and validated by means of finite element method software simulations. The same is done for the calculation methods used for calculating the capacitances in and around the winding structure. The calculated and FEM-simulated results are compared to measured values as a final stage of validation. The methods used to calculate the various model parameters seem to produce results that agrees well with measured values. The non-linear frequency dependant dissipative nature of transformer windings is also investigated and a methodology to take this into account is proposed and implemented. The complete modelling methodology proposed in this thesis, which includes the calculation of the model parameters, model synthesis and solver algorithm, are applied to an actual case study. The case study is performed on an air-core reactor manufactured using a disk-type power transformer winding. The reactor is excited with standard lightning impulse waves and the voltages along the winding are measured. The calculated and measured voltage wave forms are compared in both the frequency and time-domain. From the comparison it is found that the model accurately represents the actual transient voltage response of the testunit for the frequency range of interest during standard factory acceptance tests.

Vai, Vannak 27 September 2017 (has links)
The energy consumption is increasing year by year due to the growth of population and the economic conditions. In order to meet the need of population and society to use electricity, the Cambodian government has established the policy to promote and encourage the development of electrification; all the villages will have electricity by the year 2020, and at least 70% of households will have access to grid quality by the year 2030. To achieve these goals, the study and development of methodology on the Low-Voltage (LV) distribution system are investigated. This thesis studies the planning of LV distribution system with integration of Photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage (BES). The first part is developed the long-term planning method to tackle the challenge of load demand uncertainty in urban area; the novel algorithm was developed to search for the optimal architecture of minimizing the capital expenditure (CAPEX) and the operation expenditure (OPEX) which respects to the set of topology and electrical (current and voltage) thank to mixed integer quadratically constrained programming (MIQCP), shortest-path, first-fit bin-packing, and Monte-Carlo method. The second part is dealt with the extension of electricity coverage area with two possible solutions which are grid reinforcement and integration of PV-BES for rural village; the Genetic algorithm (GA) and iterative technique were coded to search for location and sizing.
