The Looking Back and the Secend Start of Heroines at the end of century ¢w¢wfrom "Huang Hsiu Chiu" to "Female Prison Flower"

Tsai, Pei-yu 10 September 2012 (has links)
After the Opium War, China has entered a rapid transformation. At the later period of Qing Dynasty, fictions were put to excellent, it was emphasized the actual function of the social. It reflected social conditions and enlighten the people through advocacy fictions. Intellectuals deeply appreciate female issues tightly linked with the fate of the country, and carried out the large-scale feminist movement of the later period of Qing Dynasty. Through against foot-binding, build female schools , promote freedom of marriage, established the independent personality of female, and the liberated women totally. Fictions were written female lives and reflected women' issues at this time. "Huang Hsiu Chiu" reflected female lives and situations very well in many feminist fictions, it was centered foot-binding, female education, women' issues. Miao-Ru Wang had created a a group of new revolutionary female who be strong, be no fear of might by female writing in "Female Prison Flower". These females found themselves in the corresponding relationships of saving the nation, women's rights, and woman's education.

The State Space of Complex Systems

Heilmann, Frank 14 October 2005 (has links) (PDF)

The second wave of Chinese art film : film system, film style, and alternative film culture of the 1990s

Yang, Li 16 November 2010 (has links)
This dissertation examines the development of Chinese art film in the 1990s. It explores the mechanisms that were conducive to the emergence of this art wave and its representative cinematic styles. Art film was a historically underdeveloped film practice in China, especially under the mass line-dominated Socialist film system. I argue that Chinese art cinema was fundamentally defined by the second art wave, which was flanked by the first art wave (the Fifth Generation Cinema) of the 1980s, and the full capitalization of the film industry in the new millennium. The key to understanding the second art wave was the paradoxical industrial process of the Socialist film system reform of the 1990s. The controlled top-down reform made the emergence of independent production possible while at the same time denying its legitimacy. As the result, the Chinese art film production breathed new life but was pushed from the mainstream to the realm of the alternative. In alliance with other youth subculture phenomena of the time, such as rock music and avant-garde art, art film came to be defined as a distinctive position in the field of Chinese film production in terms of the mode of production (mostly independent), distribution (international film festivals), and film style. Three styles are examined in detail in this dissertation: the documentary-inspired new realist style represented by films of Jia Zhangke, the modernistic expressionist style represented by films of He Jianjun, Zhang Ming, and others, and the style that falls in-between the new realist and expressionist style represented by early films of Zhang Yuan, Lou Ye, and Wang Xiaoshuai. / text

The Political Pop Art of Wang Guangyi: Metonymic for an Alternative Modernity

Poborsa, James D. 16 February 2010 (has links)
This thesis examines the political pop art of contemporary Chinese artist Wang Guangyi in light contemporaneous shifts within the political, economic, and artistic space of China from 1978 until the present. Through an analysis of the work of art as an historically determined antagonistic aesthetic praxis, this thesis attempts to reveal the sedimented traces of the alternative modernity which the Chinese government is actively attempting to construct. With its evocative juxtaposition of contrasting ideological forms, the artwork of Wang Guangyi seeks to deconstruct the normative and teleological narratives encountered within the dialectic interplay between state sponsored transnational capitalism and Marxist-Leninist communism. An understanding of the discursive structure upon which these dual modernising narratives has been based, and of the fragmented artistic space they have engendered, should serve to enliven the debate concerning the role of cultural production in questioning and revealing narratives of the nation, of the Self, and of modernity.

Lou, Feng 30 January 2012 (has links) (PDF)

Calixto, Alexandre Pitangui 19 December 2014 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 6510.pdf: 2213423 bytes, checksum: 0c9b206a1b5f88772031ed160e9691b3 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-12-19 / Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos / We proposed a new split-merge MCMC algorithm for image segmentation. We describe how an image can be subdivided into multiple disjoint regions, with each region having an associated latent indicator variable. The latent indicator variables are modeled with a prior Gibbs distribution governed by a spatial regularization parameter. Regions with same label define a component. Pixels within a component are distributed according to a Gaussian distribution. We treat the spatial regularization parameter and the number of components K as unknown. To estimate K, the spatial regularization parameter and the component parameters we propose the Metropolised split-merge (MSM) algorithm. The MSM comprises two type of moves. The first one, is a data-driven split-merge move. These movements change the number of components K in the neighborhood K _ 1 and are accepted according to Metropolis-Hastings acceptance probability. After a split-merge step, the component parameters, the spatial regularization parameter and latent allocation variables are updated conditional on K by using the Gibbs sampling, the Metropolis- Hastings and Swendsen-Wang algorithm, respectively. The main advantage of the proposed algorithm is that it is easy to implement and the acceptance probability for split-merge movements depends only of the observed data. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified using artificial datasets as well as real datasets.

Cesta vietnamského poselstva vedeného Nguyen Thuatem k qingskému dvoru v kontextu dobových událostí na Dálném východě / Nguyen Thuat's mission to the Qing court in the context of events in East Asia

Do, Bao January 2016 (has links)
This thesis deals with Vietnamese scholar Nguyễn Thuật and his Diary of Journey to Tiānjīn (Wǎng Jīn rìjì 往津日記; hereinafter the Diary), which contains records of the journey of the Vietnamese diplomatic envoy to China in 1883. The aim is to identify the informative values of the Diary as well as Nguyễn Thuật's perception of China from a political and cultural standpoint by analyzing the content of the Diary. The first chapter provides cultural context of historical events during the second half of the 19th century. The following chapter is the main chapter where Nguyễn Thuật and his Diary are elaborated on. The thesis concludes with hypotheses of Nguyễn Thuật's intentions to write his Diary and assessment of informative values and thus opens the way to deeper comprehension of the historical development of Sino-Vietnamese relations.

Wang Meng a jeho literární dílo inspirované Xinjiangem / Wang Meng and his Writings Inspired by Xinjiang

Čavojská, Lenka January 2015 (has links)
Wang Meng, an important figure of modern Chinese literature, is best known as an author experimenting with literary techniques at the turn of the 70s and the 80s. Our paper examines a relatively little-known part of his work inspired by the writer's many-year stay in Xinjiang. Examined proses originate primarily from two collections - In Yili and Hello, Xinjiang. In the analysis of Wang Meng's literary creation we take into account the historical context and we present particular features of the literary image of non-Han culture in the work of a Han writer. We also examine the use of narrative techniques, with particular focus on "stream of consciousness" technique.
