Projektet har handlat om att utforma ett marint forskningscentrum som parallellt fungerar som Folkets hus. Projekttomten är placerad längs med Östersjöns kustlinje, vid Ulfsundet i Ytterjärna. Det huvudsakliga målet har varit att skapa en miljö där ”folkets hus” besökaren och den marina forskningen kan mötas. Möjligheten till denna kontakt är viktig för att sprida kunskap om marin hållbarhet och på sikt kunna förbättra vattenkvaliteten i Östersjön. Genom byggnadens arkitektur uppmuntras besökaren att interagera med, lära om och uppleva det lokala havet. Närheten till vattnet är en förutsättning för detta och byggnaden växer därför ut i i havet och skapar en länk till det. Konceptet i projektet har varit att skapa programgemensamma rum där verksamheterna korsas och kan samspela. Exempelvis skapades ett växthus för algodling som parallellt skulle kunna fungera som bar och utställningslokal. Som pilotprojekt undersöks även möjligheten att genom marina kolonilotter ge folket möjligheten att testa odla sina egna alger, kräftor och musslor med stöd från den marina forskningsverksamheten. / The project was about designing a marine research center that also could work as a community house for the people. The project site was located along the coastline of the Baltic Sea, at Ulfsundet in Ytterjärna.  The main goal was to create an environment where the "people's house" visitor could encounter the marine research. This contact could be important in order to spread knowledge about marine sustainability, and further to improve the water quality in the Baltic Sea. The architecture encourages visitors to interact with, learn about and experience the local sea. The presence of the water is a prerequisite for this and the building is therefore partly placed in the ocean. The concept of the project was to create hybrid rooms where different activities could be practiced at the same time. For example, a greenhouse was designed to enable algae cultivation, but at the same time give room to a bar and an exhibition area. Moreover, the building makes it possible for individuals to learn grow their own algae, crayfish and mussels in marine allotments with support and help from the marine research center as a pilot project.
