Povrchové úpravy kovů / Surface treatment of metals

Hamal, Jan January 2016 (has links)
This master thesis describes design of suitable surface treatment technology to get component resistant to corrosion of conventional atmosphere. Given component has a shape of pin and is made of construction steel. At the beginning, there is a theoretical study of galvanic zinc coating and galvanic surface treatment in general. Then there is analysis of damaged galvanic zinc surface and its impact of corrosive resistance of that layer with collaboration with company KOZÁK SVITAVY. Corrosive resistance of damaged zinc layer is then compared with corrosive resistance of quality zinc layer. At the end of this thesis is technical and economic evaluation.

Rostfria stålkonstruktioner och rostskyddsbehandling av stålkonstruktioner enligt Eurocode / Stainless steel structures and corrosion protection of steel structures according to Eurocode

Karlsson, Niklas, Öjemyr, Jenny January 2012 (has links)
Steel is an excellent material to build with, but consideration must be given to the fact that unprotected steel corrodes, rusts, therefore, as a rule, the steel must be protected in some way. This can be done by reducing the tendency of the steel to corrode by using stainless steel or by treating the steel with a protection method. The two most common methods of protection are corrosion protection paint and zinc coating. To determine the method, the corrosive category must first be evaluated and this is done in accordance to EN ISO 12944-2:1998. Stainless steel is available in many varieties but only some of them have properties that make them suitable for use as construction steels. There are many factors to be considered in the design of stainless steel to prevent corrosion from occurring. Design of stainless steel is slightly different from the design of plain carbon steel. In this thesis, only the differences are considered. There are many different systems of protective coating. These consist of at least two different layers of paint. Before the steel is painted, it must be pretreated to remove any impurities in the steel in order to get good adhesion. Galvanizing with a zinc coating can be done in a couple of ways, including hot-dip galvanizing and zinc spraying, where galvanizing is the most common method. When both galvanizing and painting is used it is called duplex systems. Which method that should be used depends on several factors such as economics, aesthetics and environmental impact. There is no simple solution, everything must be weighed and considered in each individual case.

Electrodeposition of Molybdenum-Based Coatings from Aqueous Alkaline Solutions for Enhanced Corrosion Resistance

Zhou, Ting 05 1900 (has links)
Zn-Mo coatings are very promising environment friendly anticorrosive coatings as replacement materials for cadmium and chromium (VI) based conversion layers. Electrodeposition has become a favorable technique in fabricating coatings due to its low cost, ease of use, and overall experimental control of coating quality. Very little research so far has been done for the electrodeposition of Zn-Mo coatings under alkaline conditions. In this work, Zn and Zn-Mo coatings were electrochemically deposited on stainless steel from an aqueous alkaline citrate solution. An organic compound, vanillin, was added to the electrolyte as a leveling agent for improving interlayer adherence and corrosion resistance of Zn-Mo coatings. Ni-Mo alloys have been known to possess high tensile strength and excellent corrosion protection of steels, and MoTe2 layers have a potential for the application in anticorrosive coatings due to their hydrophobic properties. In this study, MoTe2-Ni-Mo coatings were deposited on stainless steel using both sputtering and electrodeposition methods. These coatings with high corrosion resistance and other desirable properties are in demand in the oil and gas industry since they can protect and thus extend the lifetime of the underlying materials when exposed to aggressive environments. The Zn-Mo and MoTe2-Ni-Mo coatings were evaluated for chemical composition and corrosion behavior using different types of instrumental and electrochemical techniques. The addition of vanillin to the electrolyte did not change the crystalline structure or composition of the Zn-Mo coating, however, the corrosion resistance of the coating was significantly improved by the leveling effect of vanillin during the electrodeposition. The corrosion resistance of the Ni-Mo coating was also enhanced by applying the hydrophobic MoTe2 monolayer on the top surface.

Physikochemische Untersuchungen zur Wirkung von Korrosionsschutzbeschichtungen

Azizi, Mazen 19 September 2001 (has links) (PDF)

Experimental and numerical investigation of gas jet and liquid film interaction

Myrillas, Konstantinos 14 October 2011 (has links)
The topic of this thesis is the interaction between gas jet flow and a liquid film dragged by a solid substrate. This method, known as jet-wiping, is used in several industrial processes. Hot-dip galvanization of steel strips is an important application, where jet wiping is used to control the thickness of the liquid zinc that is applied on a continuous steel substrate. Unsteady phenomena in the process lead to the creation of waves on the liquid film, which is known as undulation. This unwanted phenomenon deteriorates the quality of the final product.<p>The aim of the current study is to identify the causes of the undulation and propose possible solutions to tackle the problem. This is achieved through studying the hydrodynamic interaction between the gas jet flow and the liquid film. Experiments on a laboratory test facility and numerical simulations with 3 different Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) codes are employed for that purpose.
