Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento CientÃfico e TecnolÃgico / CoordenaÃÃo de AperfeiÃoamento de Pessoal de NÃvel Superior / Esta tese investiga as redefiniÃÃes de usos e classificaÃÃes da Praia do Futuro a cargo dos novos espaÃos de lazer praiano localizados no trecho de orla ao leste da cidade de Fortaleza. O campo de observaÃÃo da pesquisa abrange os grandes complexos de barracas (espÃcies de bares, restaurantes e casas de shows à beira-mar) situados, em sua maior parte, entre a Rua Renato Braga e a PraÃa 31 de MarÃo, no trecho conhecido, por empresÃrios, fortalezenses e turistas, como âpraia novaâ. TrÃs desses complexos exemplificam bem os dias em que mais a Praia à redefinida: o complexo CrocoBeach, durante âo domingo na praiaâ; o Chico do Caranguejo, para âa quinta do caranguejoâ; e a âbarracaâ Biruta, nos dias de shows e eventos. AlÃm de serem os mais procurados, à sobre os complexos de barracas que recai grande parte das disputas simbÃlicas acerca da redefiniÃÃo da Praia como bem pÃblico. A tese baseou-se em entrevistas, observaÃÃo direta e registro fotogrÃfico dos tempos e espaÃos do lazer da Praia, alÃm de uma importante pesquisa documental a respeito das classificaÃÃes dos usos constituÃdos durante a ocupaÃÃo do local. O argumento principal desenvolvido considera que a atribuiÃÃo de significados a um espaÃo urbano articula usos e classificaÃÃes conforme as posiÃÃes assumidas no seu interior, o que tem implicaÃÃes diretas no modo de tipificar uma praia como bem pÃblico. / This work investigates the redefinitions of uses and classifications of Praia do Futuro in charge of new resort entertainment leisure located in the beach stretch of coastline east of the city of Fortaleza. The field of survey research includes the large complexes of barracks (a sort of bars, restaurants and concert halls by the sea) situated in the most part between Renato Braga Street and 31st March Square, the stretch known by businessmen, tourists and people from Fortaleza, as ânew beachâ. Three of these complexes exemplify the days when the beach is more redefined: the complex Crocobeach during âSunday on the beachâ, âChico do Caranguejoâ for âQuinta do Caranguejoâ and the tent âBirutaâ in the days of concerts and events. Besides being the most sought by people the complexes of tents largely encompass symbolic disputes about the redefinition of the Beach as a public property. The thesis was based on interviews, direct observation and photographic record of the times and places of leisure of the beach besides an important documental research about the classifications of uses that were constituted during the occupation of the site. The main argument developed considers that the attribution of meanings to an urban space articulates uses and classifications according to the positions taken in its interior and must have direct implications on how to classify a beach as a public estate.
