Bone Healing after implantation of bone substitute materials. Experimental studies in estrogen deficiency.

Öberg, Sven January 2003 (has links)
Bone formation and bone healing were studied in the mandible, tibia and skull bones in adult, healthy and estrogen deficient rabbits implanted with different bone substitutes. In the first study an evaluation of the differences in bone regeneration in and around solid (Alveograf *) and porous hydroxyapatite (Interpore 200*) was undertaken. The implant material was placed into experimentally made bone defects and in half of the defects hydroxyapatite was mixed with a fibrin sealant (Tisseel *). The material alone or mixed with Tisseel was also placed subperiostally in the mandible. The observation time was six month. No difference in bone regeneration was found between solid or porous hydroxyapatite granulas and the addition of Tisseel* did not seem to disturb the bone healing process. The implant material placed subperiostally did not induce bone formation nor did it provoke any bone resorption. The addition of Tisseel made the implant material much easier to handle and retain in the tissue during surgery. Bone healing around hydroxyapatite implants was also evaluated in the second study. Experimental cavities in the mandible and tibia were filled with hydroxyapatite in granules or blocks (Interpore 200*) but now with or without autolyzed, antigen-extracted, allogeneic bone (AAA). Also in this study Tisseel* was used to facilitate the handling of the material. All cavities implanted with AAA-bone, regardless of the combination with hydroxyapatite or Tisseel, demonstrated excessive bone formation resembling exostosis formation. Thus, hydroxyapatite, both as granules and blocks, can be successfully combined with AAA bone utilizing the bone inductive capacity of AAA bone. The same model was used to study the healing in ovariectomized animals in the third study. Bone cavities were implanted with or without AAA bone and left to heal. The results indicate that the osteoinductive capacity of AAA bone is in operation also in animals deprived of a normal estrogen production. The effect of using AAA bone prior to implant insertion was studied in paper four. The bone-implant contact was significant higher when AAA bone had been used. The implant stability did not seem to be affected. In paper five defects were made in skull and tibial bone in estrogen deficient animals. The deficiency of estrogen was confirmed through blood analysis, the decrease in the weight of uterus and bone mineral density. The whole body scanning with DEXA showed that the ovariectomized animals developed osteopenia. Various degree of bone formation was seen in the defects due to the influence of the bone inductive substance AAA bone. The studies indicate that a conductive material like hydroxyapatite in granules or blocks could be useful in oral reconstructive surgery. The combination with AAA bone enhanced the bone formation in calvarial and tibial bone in healthy and estrogen deficient animals. Tisseel* could be used to facilitate handling and retention of the material in the intended position during the healing process without negative effects.

Mobile IPv4 Secure Access to Home Networks

Tang, Jin 29 June 2006 (has links)
With the fast development of wireless networks and devices, Mobile IP is expected to be used widely so that mobile users can access the Internet anywhere, anytime without interruption. However, some problems, such as firewall traversal and use of private IP addresses, restrict use of Mobile IP. The objective of this thesis is to design original schemes that can enable a mobile node at abroad to access its home network as well as the Internet securely and that can help Mobile IP to be used widely and commercially. Our solutions are secure, efficient, and scalable. They can be implemented and maintained easily. In this thesis, we mainly consider Mobile IPv4, instead of Mobile IPv6. Three research topics are discussed. In each topic, the challenges are investigated and the new solutions are presented. The first research topic solves the firewall traversal problems in Mobile IP. A mobile node cannot access its firewall-protected home network if it fails the authentication by the firewall. We propose that an IPsec tunnel be established between the firewall and the foreign agent for firewall traversal and that an IPsec transport security association be shared by the mobile node and a correspondent node for end-to-end security. The second topic researches further on firewall traversal problems and investigates the way of establishing security associations among network entities. A new security model and a new key distribution method are developed. With the help of the security model and keys, the firewall and the relevant network entities set up IPsec security associations to achieve firewall traversal. A mobile node from a private home network cannot communicate with other hosts with its private home address when it is visiting a public foreign network. A novel and useful solution is presented in the third research topic. We suggest that the mobile node use its Network Access Identifier (NAI) as its identification and obtain a public home address from its home agent. In addition, a new tunnel between the mobile node and its home agent is proposed.

Hundar som ett komplement till omvårdnaden inom rättspsykiatrin - En kvalitativ studie om patienters upplevelser. : “Vi lever ju här tillsammans och hjälper varandra å, därför är det viktigt att hitta en form som passar alla.”

Qvarfordt, Malin, Malmberg, Louise January 2015 (has links)
Background: Studies have shown that dogs have a positive effect on humans physical health. They may also increase social interactions, decrease depression, increase peoples selfconfidence and autonomy and reduce anxiety trough animal-assisted interventions. Aim: The aim of this studie is to investigate if dogs can effect well-being in patients within forensic psychiatric care. Method: To investigate the patients experiences a qalitative reserch method were used. Semi-structured interviews were used to answer to the aim of the studie, and analysed with a content analysis. Result: The patients had both positive and negative experiences regarding the presence of the dogs at the unit. The dogs had an impact on the patients well-being by generating joy as well as anger and irritation. They gave a sense of being perceived as an individual, they increased physical activity, improved quality of sleep and had an inpact on self-esteem and self-confidence. The dogs also had an impact on the health facility environment trough an inprovement of the atmosphere at the unit. The dogs gave sense of mening in the everday life, an opportunity for intimacy, a sense of a less controlling environment and they also had an impact on how the patients moved at the unit. Some where proponents and some opponents to the impementation of dogs at the unit. Conclusion: The results shows that the positive experiences tops the negative because the majority of the results shows aspects of improved well-being. Dogs within healthcare facilities are therefore concidered to be a good complementary form of care for nurses working in forensic psychiatric care. This to perform good nursing care, promote well-being and maintain the civil protection and at the same time reduce feelings of being inferior, subordinated and controlled. It is however important to pay regards to the different idividual opinions and find a resolution that suits best.

Games and the future of our medium : A manifesto of proposed change

Liljenström, Christopher Robin January 2021 (has links)
From fears of issues with potential problematic consequences in the gaming industry stemming from a perceived power-disparity between the industry’s two defined“categories” (AAA and Independent), a study was made to investigate. This qualitative study was made to investigate whether or not certain perceived issues in the industry exist, and whether or not they are problematic (and in what way, if any). After interviewing four industry professionals of varying industry experience, it was determined that there are indeed issues stemming from a power-disparity within the industry. Furthermore, these issues can cause problems regarding the safety of the industry’s workers both physically and financially, the artistic and cultural development of the medium, and that some parts of the industry (mainly the independent-part of it) may be in danger should the AAA-part of the industry become too difficult to compete with. This has a host of consequences, such as marginalized developers and cultures being unable to compete and express themselves, and many independent developers losing financial support. This data and the conclusions drawn from them were then used to shape a manifesto with the intent to be used as means to inspire change within the industry and to rally up the medium to unionize and act to counteract the problems presented. Conclusively it seems that there is a power-disparity issue in the gaming industry. Furthermore, it seems that the more experience a worker of the industry has, the morein-depth they could argue and discuss issues and the problematic consequences of them within the industry. Due to this, it is concluded that new workers of the industry may be unaware of many of the problems and issues mentioned by the participants and discussed in the manifesto. This brings a sense of urgency to the manifesto’s spread. To help this, the manifesto is meant to be unveiled at the Sweden Games Conference of 2021, should the logistics go according to plan.

Vliv mechanických vlastností intraluminálního trombu na napjatost v aneurysmatech abdominální aorty / Effect of the mechanical properties of intraluminal thrombus on wall stress of abdominal aortic aneurysms

Hřičiště, Michal January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is the problematic of abdominal aortic aneurysm wall stress in relation to a different material behavior of intraluminal thrombus, which is in most cases present in the aneurysmal volume. In this thesis, the influence of neglecting the patient-specific material properties of the intraluminal thrombus, on the aneurysmal wall stress, obtained from finite element stress-strain analysis, is investigated. In terms of solution method selection, a system approach was applied so that the solution method was selected in order to respect a system of essential variables as much as possible. The first part of this thesis is focused on a description of the problematic and the human cardiovascular system with important aspects contributing to development and growth of the abdominal aortic aneurysm. Next, this part of the thesis includes chapters devoted to the intraluminal thrombus in terms of its basic characteristics (anatomy, physiology, pathology), structure and its influence on processes within the abdominal aneurysm. The second part of this work is devoted to the accomplishment of the first and second goal of this thesis, which is analyzing the available literature to obtain mean population stiffness values of the intraluminal thrombus and conducting biaxial experimental tests of provided samples of intraluminal thrombus. The experimental testing was conducted in order to obtain the patient-specific mechanical properties, which are used as the inputs in the finite element analysis. The experimental testing confirmed the stiffness negligibility of the intraluminal thrombus’s outer layer, which is mentioned is several studies, however, the influence of this layer on resulting aneurysmal wall stress has been to this date not tested. The dominant part of this thesis is focused on the third goal of this work, which is a comparison of aneurysmal wall stress obtained from the finite element computation that included mechanical properties of intraluminal thrombus obtained either from the literature analysis of experimental testing. This part includes discerption of idealized geometry model development, which was used to analyze the sensibility of computed stresses on a number of ILT layers representing different material properties. In order to obtain this analysis, a macro was created prescribing each element of the intraluminal thrombus finite element mesh with material properties derived from its distance from the lumen. Next, this chapter contains description of patient-specific geometry models development, material models, and boundary conditions selection. In the end of this part, results of the finite element computations are presented together with their statistical analysis. Within the last part of this thesis, discussion of results and conclusions of this thesis is included. Also, an overview of important aspects entering computational modeling of abdominal aortic aneurysms is presented.

Analýza šíření tlakové vlny v aortě / Analysis of pulse wave propagation in aorta

Tichoň, Dušan January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to assess the applicability of pulse wave propagation monitoring in the cardiovascular system in the field of prediction and early diagnosis of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). The very first part is focused on description of heart and blood vessels with its pathological changes in presence of aneurysm. For this reason, current methods of monitoring and surgical treating of AAA were mentioned. Due to their difficult clinical use widely in the population, new methods based on pulse wave monitoring were presented. Using an analytical approach we estimated the difference in the arrival of the pulse wave at measurable locations between healthy and pathological aorta in the order of miliseconds. By experimental monitoring using photoplethysmographic sensors, we observed significant changes of pulse wave velocity with respect to the mechanical properties of the artery wall (mainly associated with age), which we tried to implement by hyperelastic material models used in computational simulations of pulse wave proagation on simplified geometries by fluid structure interaction method. These analyzes should verify applicability of FSI simulations in further development of diagnostic methods of AAA.

Implementace protokolu ACP do operačního systému L4 / Implementation of the ACP protocol into L4 operating system

Kolarík, Tomáš January 2012 (has links)
This thesis deals with the implementation of ACP protocol which serves to manage the access for operation system based on L4 microkernel. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with methods of access management in computer networks. It focuses primarily on AAA systems which make access management possible. Furthermore it describes in detail the ACP protocol, the types of messages and their feedback. The next theoretical part is dedicated to operation systems and in particular to their architecture and services. Then we get a closer look at L4 microkernel family, their philosophy and properties. We continue with a detailed description of the L4 application interface and its ways of expansion. The practical section deals with the implemented concept of system for ACP protocol support in computers. General concept is then applied in real implementation of ACP protocol into the L4 operation system environment based on the L4 platform. To assist, I also included a detailed tutorial explaining the modeling and compilation of software for this platform. At this point we describe the methods used at the implementation and the description of particular modules and features. The end of the thesis concludes the information about the ways of testing and the implementation properties.
