Att vårda substansmissbrukare ur ett sjuksköterskeperspektiv: En litteraturöversikt / Caring for substance abusers from a nurse’s perspective: A literature review

Larsson, Ellen, Lustig, Johanna January 2022 (has links)
Background: Today, approximately 780 000 people live with substance abuse. Which also means that patients who come to hospital may have substance abuse, this means that nurses who work in hospitals sometimes care for these patients. To care for patients with substance abuse requires knowledge, medical- and nursing knowledge. The nurse’s role in care is to alleviate patients suffering and identify the patient’s needs. Method: This study is a literature review with both a qualitative and quantitative method. The result is built up with the help of 10 scientific articles. Aim: To investigate nurses' experience of caring for patients with substance abuse. Findings: Four themes are presented: Sense of ethical dilemma, Distrust and suspicion, Own security and Sense of lack of knowledge. The nurses experience difficulties in trusting patients with substance abuse and in medicating these patients. The nurses feel insecure about their own safety when caring for this patient group as these patients have a tendency to show aggressive behavior. The nurses feel that uncertainty and difficulty is based on a feeling of lack of knowledge. Conclusion: The nurses are in more need of knowledge in order to be able to provide good care for patients with substance abuse.

The Effect of a Physical Conditioning Program on Physical Fitness and Health Locus of Control Among Adolescent Substance Abusers

Owen, Guy Madison 05 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this investigation focused on determining the effects of a physical conditioning program on physical fitness and health attitudes on inpatient adolescent male substance abusers during and following participation in a six week fitness program. The fitness measures chosen for this study were the 1 1/2 mile run, skinfold, sit-and-reach, and grip strength. The first four of these measures make up the AAHPERD test battery (AAHPERD, 1980). The Health Attribution Test (Lawlis and Lawlis, 1980) was administered to determine health locus of control.

Lutseva, Gaziza January 2015 (has links)
of the thesis Background: Involvement of close persons of drug users may have a significant impact on the success of all types of treatment programs. Thus, family therapy or work with families is an effective form of treatment for both adults and teens who have problems with alcohol and illegal drugs. Involvement of persons close to drug users into treatment process is associated with finding professional help at an early stage of drug use, with a higher degree of involvement of drug users in treatment process as higher retention, with significant reductions in drug use after treatment and also improving the social behavior of drug users. Therefore is offered the question: how family therapy is indicated at work with addicted clients, and when this method is contraindicated. The aim of this work is to find out how is indicated the family therapy or therapeutic work with the family at work with addicts, from the perspective of clinicians, and when, according to their experience, family therapy is not recommended or contraindicated. IDENTIFYING THE ROLE OF FAITH AND SPIRITUALITY IN THE RECOVERY AND WELLNESS OF ALCOHOL ABUSERS

Masdeu, Andrea Elisabet 01 June 2018 (has links)
There is extensive literature available on the topic of recovery from alcohol abuse. The research focus of this study explores diverse ways in which the practice of faith and spirituality in any form have affected individuals’ recovery and wellness from a post-positivist perspective. The following question is addressed: How does faith and spirituality impact the recovery process and wellness of alcohol abusers? The study was conducted by interviewing volunteer members of three Alcoholics Anonymous mutual-help groups located in Southern California. Participants were asked 15 open ending questions interview. The study uses open and axial coding for analysis. The indirect variables (IV) for this study are faith and spirituality and the direct variables (DV) are recovery and wellness. Qualitative data has been analyzed using Nvivo data analysis software. Some of the themes that emerged from the interviews after coding were family history, willingness to recover, sense of hope, acquired coping skills, belonging to a healing community, and long-lasting sobriety. The analysis of the interviews and these themes showed a positive correlation between the practice of faith and spirituality and recovery and wellness among the pool of participants. Alcoholics with three or more years attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings reported that they earned at least one year of sobriety through being willing to recover, having a sense of hope, the practice of new skills and spiritual tools, being consistent in attending the group meetings, and being at service of other alcoholics.

Religiosity, Spirituality and Attendance at Religious Services among Recreational Drug Users: A Sub-Analysis of the Drugnet Survey

Dhar, Sohini 01 August 2010 (has links)
This study is a sub-analysis ofthe previously collected cross-sectional DRUGNET survey data. The sample included 1,178 current users of illicit drugs and 389 former users. This study was delimited to U.S. citizens, aged 18 years and older, who completed the DRUGNET survey (n =1,567). DRUGNET was a descriptive online survey of self - reported attitudes and behaviors among a group of adult, self - identified drug users (i.e., not drug abusers). The purpose of the sub-analysis was to explore the importance of religion, spirituality, and religious service attendance in the context of an otherwise normal healthy adult life. Moreover, it also looked into potential patterns of association between aspects of religiosity/spirituality and illicit drug use. The study explored if there was a relationship between the strength of a respondent's spiritual or religious beliefs and the patterns of their recreational drug use. A canonical correlation analysis was conducted using self-rated spirituality, self-rated religiosity, and attendance at services as variables on the left (entered in MANOVA as dependent variables) and self-reported use of six groups of drugs as variables on the right (entered in MANOV A as covariates). One significant function was found, which showed that attending religious services and importance of religion were negatively associated with the use of alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, and hallucinogens. That is, people who reported a higher level of religiosity and who attended religious services were less likely to use these psychoactive drugs.

A Case Study of Intervention with an At-Risk Preschool Child.

Johnson, Elizabeth Proffitt 08 1900 (has links)
This study evaluates archival data from a home intervention with an at-risk preschool child and her family. The intervention model studied was created by the Developmental Research Lab at Texas Christian University. Data was collected prior to and during the first 4 weeks of intervention to assess change in parent-child interaction, behavior and neurochemical profile. Measures used include coding of videotape recordings of the intervention, neurotransmitter levels taken via subject urine samples, Child Behavior Checklist, Parent Stress Index, and ACTeRS Parent Form. Results suggest positive change in parent-child interaction, behavior and neurochemical profile. However, consistent growth was not observed in several neurochemical results. Future studies should assess the entirety of the home intervention model and with a larger sample size.
