We developed a prototype of the water pumping system composed of two branches, aiming to model and identify the motor-pump set Parametrically as well as design and implement adaptive auto adjustable Generalized Minimum variance controllers (GMV). The controller operates in the determination of engine speed and the aperture angle of the control valve. The methodology consisted of a theoretical and experimental study considering the branches operate so disengaged. A study was carried out in order to define the structure of the model for the experimental bench-numbers of Poles, zeros and delays. Once known and validated the model structure, was retrieved from the mathematical model trial countertop representative whose parameters are estimated in real time by the method of recursive least squares (RLS), on the basis of entries imposed on the frequency converter and valves, as well as extensions output whereas the system is engaged. Adaptive controllers (GMV) auto adjustable have been designed and implemented for the control of pressure in extensions using the calculation of control law the parameters identified every instant of sampling, considering them as two systems MIMO (multiple-input multipleoutput). The results are presented to the operating system as uncoupled and coupled, under the action of the controller designed for various reference values.

The manipulator robot is consisted of five rotational joints, four links and a claw. Five DC motors are used to drive the robot and the motion transmission of the motors for the joints is achieved by gear trains. The measurements of the angular positions of the joints are made by potentiometers. Models of the manipulator robots, which are coupled and nonlinear, are obtained by using Newton- Euler and Lagrange equations. In this research, the models of the links of the manipulator robot are obtained in real time for each sampling period. The parameters of the links, to be controlled, are identified by recursive least squares (RLS) method resulted from imposed excitation to the motors which activate the links and the responses obtained by means of the joints. These parameters are used in the designs of adaptive controllers for the positions control of the link joints in question. Experimental results are presented, as well as evaluation of the achieved performance by the controlled links of the robot.

No. of bitstreams: 1 parte1.pdf: 1731249 bytes, checksum: b526d4df9a40f0fe59df8d314c9314af (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-10-28 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The objective of this thesis was to model and control in real time a planar manipulator robot with two degrees of freedom (2-DOF), comprising a rotational and a prismatic link. The rotational link is an aluminum U-channel activated by a motor-reducer DC. The prismatic link comprises a double-acting pneumatic cylinder and a pass-through rod fixed inside the U-channel and activated by a 5-way electropneumatic proportional valve with three positions. A 10 turn potentiometer senses the angular position of the rotational link, and a potentiometric ruler senses its linear position of the prismatic link. The mathematical model that represents the manipulator robot, whose parameters are estimated in real time by the recursive least squares (RLS) method, is obtained as a function of the inputs fed into the manipulator and its measured outputs, considering the coupling between the links, based on a structure predefined for this purpose. After modeling the system, self-adjustable adaptive controls of generalized minimum variance (GMV) are designed and implemented, which control the position of the manipulator robot according to trajectories specified for the two links. Lastly, the estimated and experimental responses of the system are presented and compared, considering its links operating in uncoupled and coupled mode under the action of the designed controls.

Design and implementation of a nonlinear controller in PLC as a part of an adroit scada system for optimal adaptive control of the activated sludge process

Nketoane, Paseka Augustinus January 2009 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Electrical Engineering))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2009 / More than 70% of the earth's surface is covered by water, only a small part of which is suitable for either human consumption or agricultural use. Due to pollution from agriculture, households and industry reaching rivers, lakes and seas it is Important for wastewater to be properly treated in order to remove harmful substances before it reaches the environment. Strict environmental and health regulations together with a demand for cost effective ways of wastewater treatment have made control technology in wastewater Treatment Plants an important priority. Dissolved oxygen (DO) is the amount of oxygen in the effluent and it plays a vital role of controlling VV\YTP. Oxygen dissolves in water through mixing water surface with the atmosphere, The dissolved oxygen concentration in the aerobic part of an activated sludge process should be sufficiently high to supply enough oxygen to the microorganisms in the sludge. an excessive high DO leads to high energy consumption and may also deteriorate the sludge quality, A high DO concentration in the internally recirculated water also makes the denitrification less efficient Hence, both for economical and process reasons, it is of interest to control the DO. The used controllers are normally linear controllers, proportional integral (PI) or proportional integral derivative (PID) ones. The work of these controllers leads to bad system performance, because, the process of dissolving oxygen into the wastewater is a nonlinear process and requires nonlinear control. The aim of the research project is to develop methods for design of linear and nonlinear controllers of the concentration of the DO in the aeration tank of the WWTP and to implement the designed controllers in the frameworks of PLC. The nonlinear linearizing controller based on a reference model and Lyapunov second method is designed. Additionally a linear controller is developed in a form of PI controller based on pole placement method to improve, the performance of the closed loop system. The resultant controller is to be on a PLC as a part of Adroit SCADA system. The developed programmes are used to control the wastewater treatment process in laboratory scale plant and can be applied as a part of SCADA software for control of the wastewater treatment plants.

Investigation and development of methods for optimal control of the activated sludge process

Kujane, Koketso Portia January 2009 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Electrical Engineering))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2009. / This project was started as a result of strict environmental and health regulations together with a demand for cost effective operation of wastewater treatment plants (WNTPs). The main aim of this project is how to keep effluent concentration below a prescribed limit at the lowest possible cost Due to large fluctuations in the quality and quantity of the influent concentrations, traditional control methods are not adequate to achieve this aim The major drawback with these methods is that the disturbances affect the process before the controller has time to correct the error (Olsson and Newell, 1999: 454). This problem IS addressed through the use of modern control systems Modern control systems are model based predictive algorithms arranged as feed-forward controllers (Olsson and Newell, 1999: 454) Normally a controller is equipped with a constant set point; the goal In this project IS to calculate an optimal DO trajectory that may be sampled to provide a varying optimal set-point for the Activated Sludge Process. In this project an optimal control problem is formulated usmq 00 concentration as a control variable This requires a model of the process to be controlled, a mathematical expressions of the limitations on the process input and output variables and finally the objective functional which consists of the objectives of the control. The structures of the Benchmark plant (developed within the COST 682 working group) and the Athlone WWTPs are used to implement this optimal control strategy in MATLAB, The plant's full models are developed based on the mass balance principle incorporating the activated sludge biological models. ASM1, ASM2 ASM2d and ASM3 (developed by the IWA. working groups) To be able to develop a method that may later on be used ~or online control. the full models are reduced based on the technique in Lukasse (1996) To ensure that the reduced models keep the same prediction capabilities as the full models paran-eters of the reduced models are calculated based on the Least Squares principle. The formulated optimal control problem IS solved based on the decomposition-coordination method that involves time decomposition 111 a two layer structure, MATLAB software is developed to solve the problems for parameter estimation full and reduced model simulation and optimal control calculation for the considered different cases of plant structures and biological models, The obtained optimal DO trajectories produced the effluent state trajectories within prescribed requirements. These DO trajectories may be implemented in different SCADA systems to be tracked as set points or desired trajectories by different types of controllers.

Schlüter, Melissa dos Santos January 2018 (has links)
Pneumatic systems become increasingly present in different segments of the market and are widely used in industry, mainly due to their ease of maintenance, low cost, safety and applicability in various processes. The continued development of technology resulted in an increase in the research related to the control of pneumatic servo drive positioning systems, resulting in algorithms that have advanced in the direction of the availability of more precise control of these systems. This study has the purpose of to develop a type pneumatic driven SCARA manipulator that consists of a prismatic and two rotary actuators. These devices present highly nonlinear, which harder their control. Thus, the target of this work is to develop a controller based on a model that can overcome the main difficulties related to these nonlinearities, such as the nonlinear behavior of the pressure-flow ratio in the servo valve, the gas dynamics in the fin and friction. The main objective of this thesis is to propose a control strategy based on the Adaptive Computed Torque Law with explicit compensation of the friction that contemplates the structural dynamic peculiarities of this type of system with application of trajectory control The mathematical model for the rotary pneumatic actuator proposed in the present work and used in the synthesis of this controller was evaluated through simulations results and experiments executed in a prototype designed and also built in the scope of the present work. The results of the application of the proposed controller, operating in continuous trajectories tracking regime, indicate that the Adaptive Computed Torque control strategy, together with the explicit friction compensation scheme, leads the system to a reduction of the following errors trajectory in position when compared to techniques as Computed Torque with fixed parameters, Torque Computed with explicit friction compensation and Computed Torque Adaptive without explicit friction compensation.

Algebraic estimators with applications. / Estimadores algébricos com aplicações.

Guilherme Scabin Vicinansa 19 June 2018 (has links)
In this work we address the problem of friction compensation in a pneumatic control valve. It is proposed a nonlinear control law that uses algebraic estimators in its structure, in order to adapt the controller to the aging of the valve. For that purpose we estimate parameters related to the valve\'s Karnopp model, necessary to friction compensation, online. The estimators and the controller are validated through simulations.

Para o caso multiexcitação, limitações da placa de processamento de sinal não permitiram a obtenção de resultados conclusivos / Abstract: In this work was investigated the active control of noise in ducts using the techniques of adaptive filtering. The normalized, filtered reference Least Mean Square algorithm control method - NXLMS was used. Three shapes of duct system in a supported experimental test rig for the cases of control mono-channel, multi-error, and multi-input were verified. The investigated disturbance signals were: tonal (sine), random, and a composition of two sinusoids for the case of multi-input. Evaluations of analytical and experimental impedances were verified in a configuration study of mono-channel duct contraI case. Simulations and experiments were accomplished for several duct shapes and different types of excitations. AIgorithm parameters, such as the weight number of adaptive filter, the disturbance frequency range, the convergence factor of the algorithm, and the sampling frequency were investigated in the treated cases. The experimental results obtained for the mono-channel and multi-error controller confirm the evaluations obtained in the simulations. For the multi-input case, limitations of the DSP board didn't allow to obtain conclusive results / Mestrado / Mecanica dos Sólidos e Projeto Mecanico / Mestre em Engenharia Mecânica
