Moderní přístupový systém / Modern access control system

Vomáčka, Martin January 2016 (has links)
The thesis describes the design of scheme for access system with user authentication via smart cards. The first chapter explains various types of identification items used for authentication of users and different types of readers and terminals, followed by chapter 2 with a deeper insight on smart cards with focus on their types, what internal structure and principle of communication with card readers are used, etc. with primary focus on Java cards. The third chapter describes Java Card cryptography - especially elliptic curve cryptography used on this platform. The fourth part focuses on PACE protocol with subsections dedicated to the individual parts of the protocol and its applicability to smart cards environment. Chapter 5 explains the proposed design of the authentication scheme elaborated in the thesis, including a detailed description of specific parts, their funcionality and exemplary usage in the created applications.

Voltage Stability in an Electric Propulsion System for Ships

Nord, Thomas January 2006 (has links)
This Master of Science thesis was written based on the shipbuilder Kockums AB feasibility study regarding the development of an All- Electric Ship for the Swedish Navy. The thesis was aiming at addressing voltage stability issues in a dc system fed by PWM rectifiers operating in parallel when supplying constant power loads. A basic computer model was developed for investigating the influence from various parameters on the system. It was shown that the voltage stability is dependent upon the ability to store energy in large capacitors. It was also shown that a voltage droop must be implemented maintaining load sharing within acceptable limits. Different cases of operation were modelled, faults were discussed, and the principal behaviour of the system during a short-circuit was investigated. It was shown that the short-circuit current is much more limited in this type of system in comparison to an ac system. It was concluded that more research and development regarding the components of the system must be performed.

Performance benchmarking of data-at-rest encryption in relational databases

Istifan, Stewart, Makovac, Mattias January 2022 (has links)
This thesis is based on measuring how Relational Database Management Systems utilizing data-at-rest encryption with varying AES key lengths impact the performance in terms of transaction throughput of operations through the process of a controlled experiment. By measuring the effect through a series of load tests followed by statistical analysis, the impact of adopting a specific data-at-rest encryption algorithm could be displayed. The results gathered from this experiment were measured regarding the average transactional throughput of SQL operations. An OLTP workload in the benchmarking tool HammerDB was used to generate a transactional workload. This, in turn, was used to perform load tests on SQL databases encrypted with different AES-key lengths. The data gathered from these tests then underwent statistical analysis to either keep or reject the stated hypotheses. The statistical analysis performed on the different versions of the AES-algorithm showed no significant difference in terms of transaction throughput concerning the results gathered from the load tests on MariaDB. However, statistically, significant differences are proven to exist when running the same tests on MySQL. These results answered our research question, "Is there a significant difference in transaction throughput between the AES-128, AES-192, and AES-256 algorithms used to encrypt data-at-rest in MySQL and MariaDB?". The conclusion is that the statistical evidence suggests a significant difference in transactional throughput between AES algorithms in MySQL but not in MariaDB. This conclusion led us to investigate further transactional database performance between MySQL and MariaDB, where a specific type of transaction is measured to determine if there was a difference in performance between the databases themselves using the same encryption algorithm. The statistical evidence confirmed that MariaDB vastly outperformed MySQL in transactional throughput.

Odolnost AES proti časovací analýze / AES Tolerance to Timing Analysis

Ondruš, Juraj Unknown Date (has links)
This thesis deals with timing analysis of the AES (Advanced Encryption Standard). The design of {\em Rijndael\/}, which is the AES algorithm, is described here. For the side channel attacks is necessary to know the principles of the cache memory in CPU and its architecture. In this thesis are involved major security problems of AES which can be used for successful attacks. Several different implementations of AES are discussed too. Several types of timing attaks are also described. According to the experimentations these attacks should be efficient to the most presently used AES implementations. Finally, the results of this work are described, possible countermeasures against this attack and motions for the next research.

Exploring Uses of Automated Essay Scoring for ESL: Bridging the Gap between Research and Practice

Tesh, Geneva Marie 07 1900 (has links)
Manually grading essays and providing comprehensive feedback pose significant challenges for writing instructors, requiring subjective assessments of various writing elements. Automated essay scoring (AES) systems have emerged as a potential solution, offering improved grading consistency and time efficiency, along with insightful analytics. However, the use of AES in English as a Second Language (ESL) remains rare. This dissertation aims to explore the implementation of AES in ESL education to enhance teaching and learning. The dissertation presents a study involving ESL teachers who learned to use a specific AES system called LightSide, a free and open text mining tool, to enhance writing instruction. The study involved observations, interviews, and a workshop where teachers learned to build their own AES using LightSide. The study aimed to address questions related to teacher interest in using AES, challenges faced by teachers, and the influence of the workshop on teachers' perceptions of AES. By exploring the use of AES in ESL education, this research provides valuable insights to inform the integration of technology and enhance the teaching and learning of writing skills for English language learners.
