The lack of literature and studies concerning the role and functionality of the ellipsis, not only as a rhetorical figure but also as a narrative tool of analysis, is a fact that deserves to be addressed, questioned and repaired. Yet the question arises how to do this. In the following thesis, the resource of the narratological method is applied, which allows us to immerse ourselves in the elliptical depths of Borges's fictionality. The different types of ellipses (explicit, implicit, and hypothetical) present in the text were surgically extracted, and anachronies and focalizations were also indicated. Next, we moved on to the analysis and interpretation of the material. The results obtained after the analysis were revealing and their contributions were an emulating incentive for future research. Especially in this new and paradigmatic era of hypertexts and mutants, of ghostly identities and digital avatars, the in-depth study of the ellipsis, due to its philosophical scope and, why not, indispensable for the emergence of new theories in accordance with current reality.

Der Beitrag, eine Übersetzung des ersten Kapitels bzw. des theoretischen Teils von Zeitstruktur im Gegenwartsroman (1983), behandelt in einem ersten Schritt die Zeit als ein erzählstrategisches Verfahren, das die Sinnkonstitution, die Erzählperspektive sowie die Rezeptionslenkung maßgeblich bestimmt. Damit sind zeitliche Vertextungsverfahren Teil der Kommunikationsstruktur und konstitutiv für die Textintention sowie für die künstlerische Botschaft. In einem zweiten Schritt werden unterschiedliche und komplexe Zeitverfahren beschrieben, die in zwei Makroebene, die der ‚Anachronien‘ (oder Zeitlichkeit) und die der ‚Achronien‘ (oder Non-Zeit‘) erfasst. Daraus werden drei typische Formen abgeleitet: die der ‚Zeitsimultaneität‘, ‚Zeitzirkularität‘ und der ‚Zeitachronie‘ (oder Auslöschung der Zeit), die auf drei idealtypische Romanen beruhen: Auf La casa verde von Mario Vargas Llosa, Cien años de soledad von Gabriel García Márquez und La maison de rendez-vous von Alain Robbe-Grillet; in einem letzten Schritt werden die Verfahren anhand von zahlreichen Graphiken formalisiert. / This article, a translation of the first chapter or theoretical part of Zeitstruktur im Gegenwartsroman (1983), deals in a first step with time as a narrative-strategic procedure that decisively determines the constitution of meaning, the narrative perspective and the steering of reception. Thus, temporal texting procedures are part of the communication structure and constitutive for the text intention as well as for the artistic message. In a second step, different and complex temporal procedures are described, which are divided into two macro-levels, that of ‘anachronies’ (or temporality) and that of ‘achronies’ (or non-time). From this, three typical forms are derived: those of ‘simultaneity’, ‘circularity’ and ‘achrony’ (or erasure of time), based on three ideal-typical novels: La casa verde by Mario Vargas Llosa, Cien años de soledad by Gabriel García Márquez and La maison de rendez-vous by Alain Robbe-Grillet; in a final step, the procedures are formalised by means of numerous graphics. / El trabajo, una traducción del primer capítulo o parte teórica de Zeitstruktur im Gegenwartsroman (1983), trata en un primer paso del tiempo como procedimiento narrativo-estratégico que determina decisivamente la constitución del sentido, la perspectiva narrativa y la dirección de la recepción. Así, los procedimientos de textualización temporal forman parte de la estructura de la comunicación y son constitutivos para la intención del texto, así como del mensaje artístico. En un segundo paso, se describen diferentes y complejos procedimientos temporales, que se dividen en dos macro-niveles, el de las ‘anacronías’ (o temporalidad) y el de las ‘acronías’ (o no-tiempo). De ahí se derivan tres formas típicas: la ‘simultaneidad’, ‘circularidad temporal’ y ‘acronía’ (o delusión del tiempo), basadas en tres novelas ideal-típicas: La casa verde de Mario Vargas Llosa, Cien años de soledad de Gabriel García Márquez y La maison de rendez-vous de Alain Robbe-Grillet; en un último paso, los procedimientos se formalizan mediante numerosos esquemas.
