The present dissertation aimed to analyze the memories constituted of the life of Zuzu Angel by the Folha de São Paulo and Globo newspapers from 1985 to 1998. As theoretical reference were used concepts of Cultural History, such as representation, social imaginary and identity. Publications of the newspapers Folha de São Paulo and O Globo were selected for the research, which cited the name of Zuzu Angel between the years of 1985 and 1998, which were analyzed from the assumptions and contributions of the Constructivist Paradigm, which understands that the media does a selection of events and builds the news, construction permeated by the cultural and social issues of newspapers and the journalist himself.Zuzu Angel was an important stylist during the Republican Brazil, recognized nationally and internationally for presenting a "genuinely Brazilian" fashion. Her son, Stuart Angel Jones (1945-1976), political activist, exerted activities of resistance during the dictatorial regime, being arrested, tortured and murdered by the organs of national security. With the disappearance, later evidence of Stuart's death, Zuzu Angel, using her profession and international influences, attempted to find ways to charge the Brazilian government for clarification of the whereabouts of her son, however, her five years "struggle" (1971-1976) ended in an auto accident, with the military as the mentor. It was built a memory of mother-courage, who fought an authoritarian regime to have the right to bury her child. In the dissertation we analyze how the memory-building of the mother-courage occurred during the period of the Brazilian redemocratization through the analysis of journalistic discourses. We noticed that the representations of the stylist in the Folha de São Paulo and O Globo newspapers were not disassociated from the military dictatorship point of view ou conception, they were even produced according to a place of speech and a temporal space.

Of angels and demons: Virginia Woolfs homicidal legacy in Sylvia Plaths: The bell jar. / Of Angels and demons: Virginia Woolfs Homicidal legacy in Sylvia Plaths The bell jar

Davi Ferreira de Pinho 14 February 2011 (has links)
This dissertation is a comparative study of the legacy left behind by the Victorians to the twentieth-century woman writers Virginia Woolf and Sylvia Plath. Firstly, we shall discuss the controlling agencies governing the female body in the Victorian Era and the rise of an ideal, the Angel in the House. Secondly, we expose how Virginia Woolf apprehends and subverts this Victorian ideal, duplicating it into what we call the Demon in the House. At last we encourage the dialogue between Sylvia Plath and Virginia Woolf. Plath seems to write in accordance with Woolfs parameters, creating a literature of death, a literature that is the killer of the Angel. We use the concept of écriture féminine promoted by the French critics Hélène Cixous, Luce Irigaray, and Julia Kristeva, among others, to parallel a feminine space for writing to Woolfs search for a feminine literary tradition. Kristevas abjection, Foucaults power dynamics between the soul and the body, and Otto Ranks work on the double, shall foster our discussion on the death of the Angel in literature, especially in Sylvia Plaths The Bell Jar (1963)

Mensageiros divinos na Bíblia Hebráica / Divine messengers in the Hebrew Bible

Irrael Baboni Cordeiro de Melo Junior 20 May 2011 (has links)
This thesis aims at conducting a general analysis of the divine messengers described by the term malakh reported in the Hebrew Bible. In the biblical text is the term used by malakh refer to human messengers sent to the supernatural and still subordinate to God. The entire first chapter is devoted to the investigation of the etymology of the word in question. In order to clearly discern the relationship or even the opposition between human and divine messengers, the second chapter deals with various biblical episodes where men play the role of messengers, not only as bearers of a divine message, but also with political functions and diplomatic. Still dealing with this type of messenger, it is emphasized the presence of the prophets and priests who despite belonging to the human sphere, play the role of messengers of divinity. Then the third and final chapter deals with the divine messengers themselves, usually translated or understood as \"angels\". At this point, interpretations related to identity, classifications and functions are fleshed out on time. Finally, the activity of biblical Bible will be examined further in light of relevant messengers literature of the ancient Middle East.

IL-7 Responses In Th17 Cells Are Dysregulated During HIV Infection

Stilla, Alana January 2016 (has links)
In the gut-associated lymphoid tissues, Th17 cells mediate mucosal homeostasis and inflammation. During HIV infection, Th17 cells become depleted and functionally impaired, which is implicated in the pathogenesis of chronic inflammation in patients treated with highly active antiretroviral therapy. IL-7 is a cytokine that mediates homeostatic responses in T lymphocytes, such as proliferation and survival, which are dysregulated during HIV infection. Whether similar dysregulation occurs in Th17 cells has yet to be reported. IL-7 receptor α (CD127) expression and IL-7 responses were therefore measured in blood-derived Th17 cells from uninfected individuals and effectively treated, HIV-infected individuals by flow cytometry. Th17 cells from uninfected individuals expressed CD127 and, in response to IL-7, exhibited phosphorylation of STAT5, upregulation of Bcl-2, and proliferation. During HIV infection, expression of CD127 and pSTAT5 in Th17 cells was comparable to that observed in cells from uninfected individuals. Interestingly, expression of Bcl-2 was upregulated while proliferation was dramatically impaired. These findings may provide further insight into the mechanisms by which Th17 cells fail to become restored during HIV infection.
