Percepce welfare obratlovců mimo savce návštěvníky vybrané ZOO / Visitor perception of ZOO animals welfare, except mammalsŠVOMOVÁ, Tereza January 2018 (has links)
Welfare aka comfortable life style of animals is a state when an animal is balanced with environment. All requirements are fulfilled for its physical and mental health. If the animal is healthy, we expect all requirements checked. Mentioned requirements of welfare set Webster in 1999. He made up a theory of 5 freedoms which has to follow every breeder to keep physical and mental health of animals. Welfare is doing very well in ZOO, because it keeps all animals needs fulfilled as much as possible. I made questionnaire for visitors to find out interest about welfare in one of unnamed Zoo. There were 200 filled questionnaire during July, August and September of 2017. The target of this work was to find out an interest about animal welfare in certain ZOO. Other target was finding out the most and the least happy animal by visitors.

The effect of loading and unloading methods on meat quality and on blood stress levels were evaluated in pigs from three genetic lineage (A, B, C) marketed in Brazil. 120 male pigs, weighing 115Kg on average, from three different farms whose distance from the slaughterhouse ranged from 110Km to 120Km, were divided in 6 groups (n=20 pigs) and subjected to two kinds of vehicle for transport. Vehicle 1 has loading and unloading system, with mobile floor body (E1) and vehicle 2 has conventional loading and unloading system, with fixed floor body (E2). For the evaluation of meat quality, physiochemical characteristics have been used (pH, color, drip loss, water holding capacity) and for blood stress levels, concentrations of cortisol, lactate and creatine phosphoquinase. The obtained results for pH24h (5,60±0,046 and 5,57±0.046), color L*24h(41,52±1,256 and 41,21±1,486), drip loss (4,76±0,391 and 4,86±0.391) and water holding capacity (0,038±0,03 and 0,039±0,003) haven’t shown meaningful difference between the kinds of loading and unloading methods (E1 and E2) on the genetics A, B and C. The data about incidence of skin damage on the ham (0,59±0,090; 0,531± 0,090), body (0,896±0,076; 0,757±0,076) and shoulder blade (0,612±0,050; 0,531±0,050) , have not differed between loading and unloading methods in genetics A, B and C, either. Difference in cortisol concentration (p<0,05) has been found out between loading and unloading methods (E1 and E2). However, lactate and creatine phosphoquinase levels haven’t differed meaningfully. Lower plasmic cortisol levels (p<0,05) were found in genetic lineage A, when compared to B and C. It has been concluded that the loading and unloading methods had effects on stress levels but they were not enough to cause alterations in meat quality.

Avian rucksacks for science : in search for minimum-impact tagging procedures for birdsVandenabeele, Sylvie Paule January 2013 (has links)
Voltaire wrote "With great power comes responsibility", a quote which can easily be applied to scientists nowadays whose work effectively shapes the life of billions of living beings, operating through various disciplines from medicine through to ecology. To help scientists working with wild creatures, animal-attached electronic devices, commonly referred to as 'tags', have become indispensable tools, pushing the boundaries into the unimaginable enabling, for instance, information to be sent from animals into space and back via satellites. This 'great power' does indeed come with 'responsibility' however, as evidence piles up of the deleterious effects of tags on their animal carriers. The aim of this doctoral project is to provide scientists with an analytical framework within which to examine the effects of external tags on wild animals with a view to providing guidelines informing best practise in animal tagging. For that purpose, an integrative, multidisciplinary approach was undertaken which, from a theoretical to an experimental level, assessed the impact of tags on birds. With a main focus on marine birds, the results show that tag effects ranged from behavioural aberrations to compromised energetics, ultimately reducing both flying and swimming performance. This impact varied as a function of tag size, mass, shape, position and attachment, as well as being dependent on bird morphology and lifestyle. The length of time to which a bird is exposed to deleterious tag effects appears critical since these effects can snowball over time. Fortunately, and as reported in this thesis, there are simple rules which can be implemented to help minimise tag impact even for long-term studies, mainly through an optimised tag design and innovative attachment system. So, happily, this thesis shows that by careful thinking, we can benefit maximally from our 'great power' and thus ensure that our 'responsibilities' to wild animals are best informed.

The present research had as aim: to observe how were the pre-slaughter conditions of bovines, the practices for animal welfare and also the incidence of bruises in carcass and its possible consequences. For that, during the year of 2004, five slaughterhouses were monitored, being applied questionnaires and monitoring forms to know the structure and application of pre-slaughter procedures to the animals. It was observed that 86,00% of the slaughtered animals just received appropriate stunning, causing efficiency of the insensible animals in 96,00%. Still during the pre-slaughter handling, the falls of the animals were 22,00% and the vocalizations happened in up to 30,00%. There was an average of 70,00% of bruises in the monitored animals, representing an average of 147,11 g retired of each animal due the lesions in the carcasses, that represented 34.953,34 kg of meat losses a year. Those aspects indicate the importance and need of reformulation of productive chain concepts to maintain the meat exporter condition.
