Idag är vi alla fransmän : En kritisk diskursanalys av medierapporteringen om terrorattentaten i Paris respektive Ankara hösten 2015

Bengtsson, Joel, Nilsson, Hanna January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine discourses of two terror attacks conducted in Ankara and Paris and how they were represented in Swedish news media. By analysing the identified discourses the study investigated if the discourses constructed subjects as “we” and “otherness”, which means this study’s aim was to uncover ideological representations. The study examines a total of 16 articles. Critical discourse analysis constitutes the study’s methodological framework, combined with Michel Foucault’s perspective on discourse and how they regulate the construction of reality. The results show that the postcolonial discourse is reproduced and constructs “us” as a western society, whereas Turkey is not included and is therefore constructed as “the other”. The representations in Swedish news media regarding the reporting of the attacks in Paris offer identification for the reader, meanwhile Turkey is marginalized and constructed negatively as a country.

An Investigation Of Water Supply In Roman Ankara

Kaytan, Emre 01 November 2008 (has links) (PDF)
The existence of two baths, if not more, in Roman Ankara reveals that a considerable amount of water was needed at least for the working of these baths. However, how and from where this water was supplied is not so clear because of the lack of both archaeological and historical evidence. In this regard, by bringing together all the archaeological data so far discovered and the available published information regarding the water supply scheme in order to see all this data collectively in a single picture, this thesis tries to investigate how and from where the water was supplied to Roman Ankara. In addition, this thesis reviews the available water potential of Ankara considering geography and hydrology of the site and also contains an analysis of how water was supplied in the more recent history of the city which is believed to contain invaluable information regarding the ancient water supply scheme of the city especially when the archaeological data is very scarce.

Paleoclimatological Approach To Plio-quaternary Paleosol-calcrete Sequences In Bala And Golbasi (ankara) By Using Mineralogical And Geochemical Proxies

Kucukuysal, Ceren 01 September 2011 (has links) (PDF)
The major goal of this study is to define the paleoclimatic conditions in Ankara region during Plio-Pleistocene period by evaluating the mineralogical and geochemical proxies carried from the paleosols and their calcretes. The field observations, mineralogical, micromorphological, geochemical and stable isotope investigations were all conducted to achieve a paleoclimatic approach. As pedogenic minerals in calcretes, presence of dolomite with palygorskite in the Karahamzali section and calcite with palygorskite in the Bala section together with high salinity and calcification values reveal the semi-arid and dry climatic conditions. The geochemical signatures of the paleosols are consistent with each other indicating low clastic input during the dry seasons favouring the formation of calcretes. The &delta / 13C and &delta / 18O values indicate the formation of calcretes from percolating soil-water under predominantly C4 to C3:C4 association type vegetation. Temperature calculations show that paleoclimatic conditions favouring the formation of calcretes in the region are semi-arid and seasonally dry with approximately 25&deg / C soil depositional temperature. This study is the first to give both a radiometric age data to the calcretes of Central Anatolia, Ankara and document their stable isotope compositions. Dated calcretes having ESR ages of 419&plusmn / 69ka and 761 &plusmn / 120ka point the formation during Middle Pleistocene when Mid-Brunches Event (MBE) was happened and the periodicity changed affecting the climatic control over the European continent. Like the Mediterranean calcretes, this study suggests that calcretes in the study area started to develop with MBE warmth between Marine Isotope Stages of 13- 11 and 19-17.
