Second, it will allow participants to route, search, and find event locations using ArcGIS. Lastly, it will allow participants to register for the event right from their phones.

<p>This project was aimed at critically analyzing the use of web geographical information system (GIS) applications in local government, and problems associated with the design, development, and implementation of web mapping applications in the case study of the municipality of Gävle, Sweden. The project included a scientific and thorough analysis of options for developing web GIS applications by using ESRI GIS software technologies. During this research project, the ESRI GIS software tools and packages were used to perform a comprehensive system analysis of the proposed web mapping application, to gain a better understanding of the available methods of map document and web GIS application performance optimization, and finally to develop a web mapping application prototype for the web map of the municipality of Gävle. The research results include the guidelines for preparing map documents to be published, optimizing ESRI ArcGIS Server web mapping applications performance, and some possible ways of customizing user tools and a user interface by using the Microsoft Visual Studio framework. This study proves that ESRI web-based GIS products provide viable tools for web mapping application design, development, and customization. The developed ArcGIS Server based web mapping application can be optionally improved and then be used instead of existing ESRI ArcIMS-based application in the municipality of Gävle.</p>

This study utilized individual and county-level analysis to examine the impact of demographic and distal factors on individual level mortality as well as spatial and county specific attributes on county death rates. The data used in the individual level analyses come from the linked NHANES NDI data set and the county level data come from multiple sources including spatially referenced sources. Findings suggest that having private or Federal insurance attenuates the mortality discrepancy between racial groups at the individual level and that spatial factors have an impact on county death rates that are not explained by county attributes. These analyses present questions about using common indicators to measure mortality at different levels suggesting that the variables used to understand mortality on the individual level are different from those that should be used to understand mortality at the county level.

As usual route planners are based on the principle of travel time minimization, the travel speed and distance from the destination are two key factors to calculate the optimal route. Current systems are based on predetermined speed limits stored on road maps. However, few of the systems used today, consider current environmental influences. The aim of this thesis is to examine the extent of route changes for MIT (Motorized Individual Transport), when weather-related speed reductions are considered. The basis for the work are road data from OpenStreetMap and historical weather data in the NetCDF (Network Common Data Format) provided by the company Ubimet. The data is processed, by using the ArcGIS software from ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc). The study area corresponds to the territory of Austria. After the treatment of roads and weather information, the records are processed, using the software, to weather-related road networks. This is done by two different methods, static and dynamic. The static model concerns the routing behaviour using a specific weather situation, while the dynamic model takes temporal change of the weather into account. For the analysis of the new, influenced by the weather, routing behaviour the created routes at times of strong weathering are compared with predetermined reference cases without considering the weather. Routes referring to periods of normal and strong weathering, e.g. heavy rain, are analysed and compared in travel time, route length and exposure to adverse weather conditions.

Detection and analysis of changes in desertification in the Caspian Sea RegionAbbasova, Tahira January 2010 (has links)
The Caspian Region includes the Caspian Sea and five littoral states: Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Russian. 40% of the Caspian coastal zone is arid, 69% of this territory undergone desertification according to international reports. Among the reasons are soil erosion caused by water, wind and irrigation, the salinization of soil, intense bioresources usage, and soil pollution due to oil extraction and production. Desertification is a serious problem, at global, national and local scales. It is important to know what should be sustained or developed in order to protect land from desertification. The generalization of data over desertification processes in Caspian countries, studying the dynamics of this process in space and time could help facilitate measures to counter regional desertification. To understand Caspian Region coastal desertification phenomenon, vegetation cover satellite images for the years 1982 – 2006 were investigated to give map vegetation changes over time. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data for this study was derived from the Global Inventory Modeling and Mapping Studies (GIMMS) dataset, with the spatial resolution of 8 km. A coastal strip 160 km from the coast, divided by countries, was investigated. Theanalyses were focused on extent and severity of vegetation cover degradation, and possible causes such as landscape, land use history and culture, climatic changes and policies. The aim was to address questions related to desertification phenomenon, by focusing on Caspian Region time-series of vegetation cover data and investigation patterns of desertification in the region. In this study evidence of land degradation in the Caspian Region countries was found to occur on local scales or sub-national scales rather than across the regional as a whole. Changes in vegetation cover revealed by AVHRR NDVI appeared to be reversible in character and were dependent on the climate conditions, and anthropogenic impact in approximately equal proportions.

LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is an active remote sensing system which is used to map the surface of the Earth and which can be processed to show the ground surface under the canopy cover. The aim of this study is to examine if LiDAR can be used as a method for mapping karst on the island of Gotland, what kind of karst morphologies may be identified and their geographical distribution. LiDAR was visualized in the computer platform ArcGIS and in ArcMap version 10.3 (Esri). More than 2000 karst objects were mapped using LiDAR. Of these, eight different locations including 34 potential karst objects were chosen for field control. Six different classes of karst have been identified including three classes of dolines. The results show that LiDAR can be used for mapping karst, especially the bigger karst morphologies which are easier to identify. The results from the field control show that 45 % of the small dolines, 43 % of the medium sized dolines and 33 % of the large dolines which has been mapped in LiDAR were actual dolines. For larger scale karst morphologies the success rate was almost 100 %. The method did not lend itself well to identification of sinkholes, most likely related to the very small size of these on Gotland.

För att framföra en timmerlastbil med 74 tons bruttovikt i svensk trafik, krävs ett tillstånd från Trafikverket. Tillståndet består av ett dokument som visar vilka vägar och broar fordonet får trafikera och vilka regler som gäller när man kör lastbilen. Skogsbolaget Sveaskog startade ett examensarbete med syfte att skapa möjlighet att i realtid presentera för lastbilsföraren vilka vägar och broar som är en del av transportdispensen. Detta skulle ske genom att utveckla ett kartstöd för lastbilens fordonsdator med anslutning till GPS för att visualisera dispensdokumentet med de angivna vägsträckorna och broarna. Resultatet av examensarbetet är ett kartstöd som använder tjänster från ArcGIS Online för att presentera geografisk information för användaren. Bakgrundskartan består av en grundkarta från ArcGIS Online. Över grundkartan ligger ett GIS-skikt med vägar och ett annat skikt med broar. Information om huruvida fordonet för närvarande färdas på en väg som ingår i tillståndet eller inte, samt information om regler som gäller för broar på vägavsnittet, presenteras för föraren i realtid. Denna information uppdateras vid varje uppdatering av GPS-positionen. / In order to use a timber truck with 74 ton gross weight in Swedish traffic, a permit from the Swedish transport administration is required. A document shows which roads and bridges the vehicle is allowed to traffic and what rules applies when driving the vehicle. The forest company Sveaskog started a thesis with the aim to create the possibility to determine in real time, which roads and bridges that are part of the transport permit. This should be done by developing a map support for the truck's on-board computer with connection to GPS to visualise the permit of the specified road sections and bridges. The result of the thesis is a map support using services provided by ArcGIS Online to present geographic information to the user. The background map consist of a base map from ArcGIS Online. On top of the background map is a GIS layer with roads and another layer with bridges. Information about whether the vehicle currently is travelling on a road included in the permit or not, as well as information about rules that applies to bridges on the road section, is presented to the driver in real time. This information is updated at each update of the GPS position.
