Perspektiv på genusidentitet i förhistorien : Så resonerar forskarna / Perspectives on gender identity in prehistory : So reason the scholars

Fransson Rodriguez, Liza January 2013 (has links)
This essay examines how four archaeology scholars reason about gender. I have used a qualitative method in making this study of their dissertations.  The aim is to obtain a deeper understanding of gender identity in prehistory, gaining a broader appreciation of how this might be expressed through archaeological material. This essay takes its theoretical departure from postprocessual thinking, where gender perspectives, including feminist and queer theories are in focus. The result of this study shows that the scholars have a postprocessual, structuralistic theoretical perspective in common, and that they use stereotypical identity-descriptions. The conclusion is that gender identities can be interpreted and categorized from archaeological material.

Stable Isotope Analysis of Archaeological Material from Namu, British Columbia as a Proxy for Holocene Environmental Change

Kingston, Andrew 08 1900 (has links)
The thesis is compilation of four manuscripts discussing the stable isotope analysis modem and archaeological faunal material from Namu, British Columbia. These studies concentrate on the application of stable isotopic analysis of biogenic material for paleonvironmental interpretation over the Holocene. The first study addresses the use of phosphate and carbonate associated oxygen isotopes in bioapatites (Sebastes spp. vertebrae) as a proxy for the isotopic composition of water from approximently 6,000 to 2,000 years before present (BP). The second study evaluates sclerochronological sampling strategies as applicable to the study of bivalves with implications for sampling fragmented material such as that found in archaeological deposits. The third study investigates stable isotopes composition of estuarine bivalve carbonate (Saxidomus gigantea) and the controlling environmental and biological factors. Finally, the fourth study uses a 5,000 year record of archaeological S. gigantea to provide a paleoclimatic record at Namu over the mid-late Holocene. / Thesis / Master of Science (MS)

There is a large amount of archaeological metallic material stocked safeguard institutions in the south of Brazil and Uruguay. They come mostly from battlefield sites and the loss of information associated with them has been a constant worry for managers in those institutions. This work intent to contribute for the conservation and the musealization of those materials, and also to create an awareness for the managers in order to maintain the presence of an archaeologist and/or conservator in these places and participation in all the stages that encompass the archaeological research. The methodology used was a bibliographic revision, the application of curative and preventive conservation procedures in a series of materials from a battlefield site that were in risk due to the big storage issues in their respective institutions. The procedures resulted in a recovery of those materials that are now in a condition to be studied by the next generations of researchers and presented to the public in general
