The application of a linear photodiode array as a multichannel detector for inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy /

McGeorge, Scott W. (Scott Wilson) January 1985 (has links)
A multichannel detection system based on a linear photodiode array (PDA) is described. The design and construction of the detection system and a rapid slew-scan computer-controlled stepping motor grating drive system is detailed. The theoretical performance of an optimized PDA system is contrasted with the performance of photomultiplier tubes. A technique is described which allows the dynamic range of the PDA to be extended by one order of magnitude towards higher light levels. A wavelength calibration procedure is outlined which results in a wavelength prediction accuracy of (+OR-)0.003 nm. A theory for high resolution spatial image positioning is presented and the ability to detect varying degrees of spectral overlap is evaluated. Applications of the PDA to the measurement and characterization of transient signals is described.

Electrochemical preconcentration and separation for elemental analysis using an inductively coupled plasma for atomic emission spectrometry with a direct sample insertion device

Habib, Magdi Maurice. January 1985 (has links)
The application of controlled potential electrolysis for the elemental analysis by the inductively coupled plasma for atomic emission spectrometry using a direct sample insertion device will be described. The purpose of the technique is to improve the ICP detection limits over those obtained by conventional nebulization of liquid samples and to separate trace metallic elements from a complex matrix. Preconcentration and separation are achieved by electrodeposition using different electrode types. A conventional graphite electrode, a hanging mercury drop electrode, a reticulated vitreous carbon electrode and a tubular graphite electrode are studied. Advantages and limitations of the different electrodes and techniques will be discussed.

In the present work we analyze the spectrum of five time ionized xenon obtained in a discharge tube, resulting in the classification of 146 new lines and 32 energy levels. We calculated the weighted oscillator strengths (gf), weighted transition probabilities (gA) and lifetimes for all experimentally known dipole transitions and energy levels of Xe VI. These values were obtained using the Hartree-Fock method, including relativistic corrections and core polarization effects, and energy parameters optimized by a least-squares procedure in order to obtain energy levels adjusted to the corresponding experimental values / Mestrado / Eletrônica, Microeletrônica e Optoeletrônica / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica
