Etude comparée des parlers du groupe bantu kota-kele (B20) du Gabon : a la recherche de nouveaux critères classificatoires / A Comparative Study of the Kota-Kele (B20) Group of Gabon : seeking New Criteria for Improving its Internal Classification

La présente thèse a deux objectifs principaux. Le premier objectif est de proposer une description de la phonologie et de la morphologie de base pour l’ensemble des parlers B20 connus à ce jour (16 au total). Le deuxième objectif est de mettre au jour de nouveaux critères, non lexicaux, en vue de l’amélioration et de la consolidation de la classification interne de ce groupe resté largement inconnu pendant longtemps.Les parlers B20 sont tous relativement proches les uns des autres, de tous les points de vue. Par conséquent, trouver des critères non lexicaux pour faire avancer les connaissances dialectologiques n’est pas chose aisée. Seule une description fine peut permettre de le faire. Je me suis focalisée sur la phonologie des parlers, sans ignorer pour autant ce que j’avais pu collecter comme données sur la morphologie nominale (classes nominales et PN) et verbale. La première grande partie de la thèse présente l’essentiel des résultats de cette étude fastidieuse. Ces résultats ont à leur tour alimentés l’étude présentée dans la seconde grande partie, consacrée elle à la dialectologie et plus précisément à la recherche de nouveaux critères pouvant être utiles pour la classification interne. L’étude des critères potentiellement utiles pour la dialectologie a révélé que les critères morphologiques retenus tendent à mieux confirmer les propositions de classification interne existantes (et établis sur la base de données lexicales) que les différents critères phonologiques. Si les premiers ont globalement tendance à corroborer les deux, voire trois sous-groupes proposés notamment par Grollemund (2012) et confirmer, indirectement, le caractère flottant du B20 (Bastin & Piron, 1999), les derniers révèlent une disparité bien plus grande au sein du groupe kota-kele. Cette thèse présente d’autres atouts. Elle constitue une contribution importante au travail de documentation des langues bantu menacées de disparition. En plus des nombreuses informations d’ordre linguistique, culturel et historique, la thèse apporte aussi sa pierre à l’édifice quant à l’élaboration d’un atlas linguistique du Gabon et à la classification des langues de ce pays. / This doctoral dissertation has two main objectives. The first objective is to provide a description of the phonology and morphology base for all B20 dialects known to date (16 in total). The second objective is to uncover new criteria, nonlexical, for the improvement and consolidation of the internal classification of this group which has remained largely unknown for long.B20 dialects are all relatively close to each other, from all points of view. Therefore, finding nonlexical criteria to improve our understanding of the dialectological structure of this group is not an easy task. Only thorough linguistic description can change this. I focused on the phonology of the dialects, but did not ignore data about noun morphology (nominal classes and noun prefixes) and very basic verb morphology. The first major part of the thesis presents the results of this fastidious study. These results in turn are the basis for the study presented in the second major part which is comparative in nature and dedicated to dialectology and the search for potentially useful new criteria for the improvement of the internal classification of the group.The careful study of potentially useful criteria for dialectology revealed that the selected morphological criteria tend to better confirm existing internal classification proposals (mainly based on lexical data) than the various phonological criteria. If the former generally tend to corroborate the two or three subgroups proposed earlier (particularly by Grollemund (2012)) and confirm, indirectly, the floating nature of the B20 (Bastin and Piron, 1999), the latter clearly reveal a much larger disparity within the Kota-Kele group.This doctoral dissertation also has other assets. It is an important contribution to the ongoing documentation of Bantu languages, many of them being currently threatened with extinction. In addition to extensive linguistic, cultural and historical information, the thesis also wants to make a significant contribution to the development of a linguistic atlas of Gabon and to the classification of the Gabonese languages.

Skyrmion-hosting B20-type MnSi films on Si substrates grown by flash lamp annealing

The aim of the current thesis was to investigate the preparation of MnSi film on Si substrates. The preparation process includes room temperature sputtering Mn films with different thicknesses and flash-lamp annealing with different energy density (annealing temperature). Systematic investigations on their structural, electrical, magnetic, and magneto-transport properties were performed. The key findings are summarized below: Thin films with the B20-MnSi phase on Si(100) substrates were fabricated for the first time. They exhibit magnetic skyrmion behaviour. In comparison with Si(111) substrates, Si(100) substrates are more preferred from the practical application point of view. The nucleation of B20-MnSi on Si(100) is believed to be triggered by the fast solid-state phase reaction between Mn and Si via ms-range flash-lamp annealing. Compared with the corresponding bulk material, our films show an increased Curie temperature of around 43 K. The magnetic and transport measurements reveal that skyrmions in B20-MnSi on Si(100) made by sub-seconds solid-state reaction are stable within much broader field and temperature windows than bulk MnSi. The parasitic MnSi1.7 phase can be further minimized or eliminated by optimizing the annealing conditions, the quality of the deposited Mn film, and its interface with the Si substrate. Our work demonstrates a promising route for the fabrication of B20-type transition metal silicides for integrated and/or hybrid spintronic applications on Si(100) wafers, which are more preferable for industry applications. The growth of MnSi films on Si(111) substrates has been widely realized by solid phase epitaxy or molecular beam epitaxy since the lattice mismatch and symmetry fit better. One problem is the parasitic MnSi1.7 phase. By controlling the reaction parameters using strongly non-equilibrium flash lamp annealing, we have achieved full control over the phase formation of Mn-silicides in thin films from single-phase B20-MnSi or MnSi1.7 to mixed phases. The obtained films are highly textured and reveal sharp interfaces to the Si substrate. The obtained B20-MnSi films exhibits a high Curie temperature of 41 K. The skyrmion phase can be stabilized over broad temperature and magnetic field ranges. We propose flash-lamp-annealing-induced transient reaction as a general approach for phase separation in transition-metal silicides and germanides and for growth of B20-type films with enhanced topological stability. By comparing the magnetic properties of MnSi films grown on both Si(111) and Si(100) substrates by ourselves and by others in literature, we found one common feature. It is the increased Curie temperature of around 41-43 K for all MnSi films. It is much higher than 29.5 K for bulk MnSi. We try to understand the puzzling Curie temperature widely reported in MnSi films. We have prepared MnSi films with a large variation regarding their thickness, crystallinity, strain and phase separation. Particularly, polycrystalline MnSi films on Si(100) and textured MnSi films on Si(111), both with different mixture ratio with MnSi1.7 have been grown and systematically characterized. Surprisingly, all obtained MnSi films exhibit a high Curie temperature at around 43 K. The skyrmion phase has also been detected in these films. However, we find no correlation between the increased Curie temperate and the film thickness, strain, lattice volume or the mixture with MnSi1.7. Our work has not provided a conclusive picture for this question, but is rather calling a revisit, especially to the effect by the interface, stoichiometry and point defects. Post Keynesian Economics (PKE) is at a cross road. The academic climate at universities has become more hostile to survival and the mainstream has become more diverse internally. Moreover, a heterodox camp of diverse groups of non-mainstream economists is forming. The debate on the future of PKE has so far focussed on the relation to the mainstream. This paper argues that this is not an important issue for the future of PKE. The debate has overlooked the dialectics between academic hegemony and economic (and social) stability. The important question is, whether PKE offers useful explanations of the ongoing socio-economic transformation. PKE has generated valuable insights but it offers little on important real world phenomena such as supply-side phenomena like the increasing use of ICT and the globalisation of production, social issues like precarisation and the polarization of income distribution or ecological challenges like climate change. In Folge von Migration treffen in deutschen frühpädagogischen Einrichtungen Familien und pädagogische Fachkräfte aus vielfältigen ökokulturellen Kontexten aufeinander. Ihre Vorstellungen über Erziehung, die optimale Förderung der kindlichen Entwicklung und die Gestaltung von Bildungsprozessen können sich jedoch je nach ihrem kulturellen Modell stark voneinander unterscheiden. Ziel der explorativen Studie ist es, diese kulturell geprägten Vorstellungen über frühkindliche Erziehung, Bildung und Betreuung zu erfassen und einander gegenüber zu stellen. Dazu wurden N = 151 Mütter mit Kindern im Alter von null bis sechs Jahren, divergierendem formalen Bildungsniveau und ethnischem Hintergrund (türkisch, russisch, deutsch) befragt. Außerdem wurden Daten von N = 36 pädagogischen Fachkräften, ebenfalls mit unterschiedlichem ethnischem Hintergrund (türkisch, russisch, deutsch) erhoben. Mit den Müttern sowie mit den pädagogischen Fachkräften wurden teilstrukturierte Interviews durchgeführt. Weiterhin wurden in beiden Gruppen Skalen zur Erfassung ihrer Sozialisationsziele und der Akkulturationsorientierung eingesetzt. Die Auswertung der Daten erfolgte mittels qualitativer Inhaltsanalyse und quantitativer Methoden. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass pädagogische Fachkräfte, unabhängig von ihrem eigenen ethnischen Hintergrund, stark autonomieorientierte Sozialisationsziele sowie einen konstruktivistischen Bildungsansatz verfolgten. Die Erziehungs- und Bildungsideale von deutschen Müttern der Mittelschicht stimmten weitgehend mit denen der pädagogischen Fachkräfte überein. Mütter mit Migrationshintergrund und niedrig gebildete deutsche Mütter wichen hingegen deutlich von den Erziehungs- und Bildungsvorstellungen der pädagogischen Fachkräfte ab. Diese Gruppen befürworteten stärker verbundenheitsorientierte Sozialisationsziele und einen didaktischen Bildungsansatz. Zudem betonten sie stärker die Notwendigkeit, sich um das physische Wohlergehen und die körperliche Unversehrtheit des Kindes in der außerhäuslichen Betreuung zu kümmern. Besonders ausgeprägt waren diese Diskrepanzen zwischen pädagogischen Fachkräften und niedrig gebildeten Müttern mit türkischem sowie mit russischem Migrationshintergrund. Praktische Implikationen für einen kultursensitiven Umgang mit divergierenden frühkindlichen Erziehungs- Bildungs- und Betreuungsvorstellungen werden diskutiert.

Nature and Well-Being. How young people possess and profit from sustainability traits

Up to now, politics and societies from all over the world have sought an economy that is built on the idea of continual growth to establish a wealthy future and achieve societal prosperity. At the same time, people have neglected to consider that the resulting environmental pollution is the largest cause of disease and death in the world today. Therefore, it appears sensible to ensure that people’s well-being and nature’s well-being is uncoupled from profit-orientated aims. To break the circle of continual growth and the decreasing well-being of humans and nature, individual sustainability traits that are able to foster a transition to sustainable development need to be explicitly identified. Today’s young people will presumably face an even more severe level of consequences resulting from continual growth, which will reach far into the future, thereby affecting the living environment of future generations even more drastically. Therefore, this dissertation aims to answer the question of how young people possess and profit from their sustainability traits in terms of well-being. This work approaches this question by empirically investigating different interrelations between environmental values, the perception of environments (including the perception of naturalness and the perception of aesthetics), environmental concern and well-being in the context of young people. The empirical section is divided into three parts that investigate the different relationships step by step. These three parts are based on three different quantitative questionnaire surveys of young people in Germany. In the first survey (N = 229; Mage = 13.27 years, SD = 2.37 years), the relation between secondary school students’ human-nature relationship as a sustainability trait and their well-being was investigated. Analyses showed that the sustainability trait of human-nature relationships was significantly related to young people’s age-dependent well-being through nature perception in terms of naturalness and aesthetics as well as through individual nature connection. Young people were shown to profit from nature as resource for their own well-being. A positive human-nature relationship could be described as an important requirement for people to achieve sustainable development. In a second inquiry, university students (N = 237; Mage = 22.12 years, SD = 3.09 years) with a focus on the interrelations of sustainability traits that showed relations to people’s well-being in past research were surveyed. The results describe the interrelations between the specified sustainability traits of environmental values, a newly developed scale that theoretically and empirically validated affective nature connection, cognitive nature connection, and environmental concern. The findings indicate that the chosen sustainability traits mutually contribute to each other’s impact and do not preclude each other. Future research based on the results of the two described studies will likely show that sustainability traits are desirable characteristics and useful attributes that are available all over the world, no matter what a person’s age. As a final step, secondary school students’ environmental concern and well-being were quantitatively surveyed (N = 2173; Mage = 14.56 years, SD = 1.45 years) to analyze how environmental concern as a sustainability trait predicts young people’s well-being. The children’s and adolescents’ sustainability trait of environmental concern was able to predict young people’s well-being, with a clear dependence on age. The obtained outcomes supporting the aim to possess nature as a resource of well-being need to be considered in terms of young people’s age. Youth seem to experience sensitive periods of time in which the youth’s sustainability traits evidently act differently than in other stages of life. Hence it is important to point out that especially young people need age-appropriate treatment in terms of education for sustainable development to successfully foster young people’s sustainability traits. The main goal of this dissertation was to explore and identify in-depth insights into young people’s sustainability traits and their interrelations as well as the connections to young people’s well-being. As such interrelations between sustainability traits and well-being meet the aims of sustainable development as well as political and societal aims for a healthy future life environment for everyone which is expected of continual (economic) growth up to the present time, age-dependent education for sustainable development could address the need for young people to become progressive decision makers who create future-proof solutions for themselves and others, considering the constitution of a worthy life for present and future generations.
