Abstract The presented study deals with Bakunin's conception of man in his anarchy period. The aim is to give evidence that his theory has legitimate place in the history of social sciences and that every attempt to disregard or to eclipse his opinions is unacceptable. This thesis tries to put his anthropological interpretation into the context of social sciences of that time and to show that the real foundation of the whole theory lies in natural evolutionism, which was a part of evolutionist theories of that time in general. This evolutionism was based on the results of the period scientific studies, widely using analogies between the natural and human worlds. The study begins with the theory of foundation and evolution of the natural world; from inorganic to organic form as the real essence of the Universe, then it moves on to the theory of foundation and evolution of the human capacity of thinking including the theory of religion, philosophy and science viewed as the historical forms of human intellect. It continues with the theory of the foundation and the history of human labour viewed as economic history. The following part of this study deals with patriotism and shows the connection between Bakunin's natural evolutionism and his interpretation of this phenomena. The last chapter deals with...

FundaÃÃo de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Cearà / O objetivo do presente trabalho à apresentar a estrutura da teoria politica e pedagÃgica de pensador russo Mikhail Bakunin. Para tanto empreendemos uma anÃlise exegÃtica e interpretativa de suas principais obras tais como Federalismo, socialismo e antiteologismo (1988) e Estatismo e Anarquia (2003). Bakunin descreveu de modo articulado a interdependÃncia dos principais elementos da modernidade ascendente na Europa do sÃculo XIX, a relaÃÃo entre Estado-NaÃÃo, modo de produÃÃo capitalista e ideologia cientificista e impÃrio sÃo elementos fundamentais em sua obra, bem como o processo de resistÃncia coletiva desenvolvida pelos trabalhadores em defesa da emancipaÃÃo do trabalho sobre o capital. The concept of solidarity in anarchist thoughtNightingale, John R. January 2016 (has links)
This thesis makes an original contribution to knowledge by presenting an analysis of anarchist conceptions of solidarity. Whilst recent academic literature has conceptualised solidarity from a range of perspectives, anarchist interpretations have largely been marginalised or ignored. This neglect is unjustified, for thinkers of the anarchist tradition have often emphasised solidarity as a key principle, and have offered original and instructive accounts of this important but contested political concept. In a global era which has seen the role of the nation state significantly reduced, anarchism, which consists in a fundamental critique and rejection of hierarchical state-like institutions, can provide a rich source of theory on the meaning and significance of solidarity. The work consists in detailed analyses of the concepts of solidarity of four prominent anarchist thinkers: Michael Bakunin, Peter Kropotkin, Murray Bookchin and Noam Chomsky. The analytic investigation is led by Michael Freeden s methodology of ideological morphology , whereby ideologies are viewed as peculiar configurations of political concepts, which are themselves constituted by sub-conceptual idea-components. Working within this framework, the analysis seeks to ascertain the way in which each thinker attaches particular meanings to the concept of solidarity, and to locate solidarity within their wider ideological system. Subsequently, the thesis offers a representative profile of an anarchist concept of solidarity, which is characterised by notions of universal inclusion, collective responsibility and the social production of individuality.

Abstract:
This is a study of the influence of anarchism and syndicalism (a variant of anarchism) on the left and labour
movements in South Africa between the 1890s and the 1920s, but with a focus on the first two decades of the twentieth
century. Internationally, this was a period of widespread working class unrest and radicalism, and the apogee, the
“glorious period”, of anarchist and syndicalist influence from the 1890s to the 1920s. The rising influence of anarchism
and syndicalism was reflected in South Africa, where it widely influenced the left, as well as significant sections of the
local labour movement, as well as layers of the nationalist movements. This influence also spilled into neighbouring
countries, fostering a movement that was multi-racial in composition, as well as internationalist and interracial in outlook.
These developments are today almost entirely forgotten, and have been largely excised from the literature: this thesis is,
above all, a work of recovering the history of a significant tradition, a history that has significant implications for
understanding the history of left and labour movements in South Africa and southern Africa.

Tesis para optar al grado de Magíster en Filosofía / El objetivo general de esta tesis es presentar la ontología social del anarquismo tal como es desarrollada en los escritos filosóficos y políticos de Pierre-Joseph Proudhon y Mijaíl Bakunin.
Esto se lleva a cabo mediante la revisión de las categorías de fuerza colectiva, poder social y razón colectiva en Proudhon, cuya idea central es la de que las instancias de acción colectiva, y en particular la sociedad, no son simples agregados de factores individuales, sino realidades sustantivas específicas; y del marco naturalista en el que Bakunin integra una teoría del individuo como constituido biológica y socialmente, de la sociabilidad como un desarrollo emergente natural característico de la humanidad y de la libertad como una conquista histórica colectiva que requiere tanto la condición subjetiva de la autonomía como la condición objetiva de la igualdad concreta en términos económicos.

Anarchy and Anti-Intellectualism: Reason, Foundationalism, and the Anarchist TraditionPedroso, Joaquin A 23 June 2016 (has links)
Some contemporary anarchist scholarship has rejected the Enlightenment-inspired reliance on reason that was supposedly central to classical anarchist thought and expanded the anarchist critique to address issues ignored by their classical predecessors. In making reason the object of critique, some contemporary anarchists expanded the anarchist framework to include critiques of domination residing outside the traditional power centers of the state, the capitalist firm, and the church thereby shedding light on the authoritarian tendencies inherent in the intellect itself.
Though contemporary anarchist scholarship has sought to apply this anti-authoritarian ethos to the realms of epistemology and ontology (by employing Michel Foucault’s analysis of power and other postfoundational thinkers), their own framework of analysis is glaringly susceptible to what Habermas called a “performative contradiction.” In questioning the authority of aspects of even our own intellect (and the epistemological and ontological presuppositions that accompany it) we call into question even the authority of our own argumentation.
I answer this “contradiction” by interrogating two intellectual traditions. Firstly, I question a key postfoundational anarchist premise. Namely, I assess whether an understanding of classical anarchist thinkers as quintessential children of the Enlightenment is justified. Secondly, I offer an alternative path to reconciliation between the anti-authoritarian values of the anarchists and the anti-metaphysical values of the postfoundationalists (that I think mirrors anarchist anti-authoritarian concerns) by suggesting we are better served to think of an anti-authoritarianism of the intellect by employing three key twentieth century thinkers: Richard Rorty, Paul Feyerabend, and Ludwig Wittgenstein. I do so while anchoring Rorty’s, Feyerabend’s, and Wittgenstein’s philosophies in the 19th century anti-metaphysical thought of Friedrich Nietzsche and the philosophical anarchism of Max Stirner.
