Rovnováha mezi podnikáním a osobním životem / The balance between an entrepreneurship and a personal life

This Master's Thesis deals with the balance between an entrepreneurship and a personal life. Its main goal is to identify which factors have or don't have an impact on the balance between an entrepreneurship and a personal life. As a part of the theoretical section I defined components of balanced life, the consequences of imbalances and recommendations how to get a life into a balance. Additionally, there are described important parts of entrepreneurship. For my methodological section I established the list of standards how to choose a suitable entrepreneurs for my research as well as research methods (incl. personal interviews with every single entrepreneur) and data evaluation system. This methodological section justifies and determines the way in which the balance is measured. In my practical section I examined a sample of 40 entrepreneurs (majored in restaurant business). During the research I tried to find a statistical significance among groups of entrepreneurs. The research results leads to the conclusion that the balance between an entrepreneurship and a personal life depends on qualitative rather than on quantitative features.

Evidence for adaptive differences in the ontogeny of osmoregulatory ability, current response and salinity preference of coho salmon, Oncorhynchus kisutch from coastal and interior populations

This thesis examines the ontogeny of plasma sodium regulation (an indicator of osmoregulatory ability), current or rheotactic response (an indicator of emigration timing) and salinity preference in juvenile coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch). The purpose of the study was to determine if there are inherited differences in the development of these traits between coastal and interior British Columbia populations of coho. An interior (Cold water River) and a coastal (Rosewall Creek-Big Qualicum River) population were monitored for the above traits throughout the year. Both wild and laboratory groups were included in the study. The laboratory raised populations were divided into two incubation treatment groups: one incubated under a coastal temperature regime, and the other incubated under an interior temperature regime. There were no differences in the development of sodium regulatory ability between wild populations when the data were sorted by coho weight. Coastal coho, however, physiologically smolted after one year in the natal streams, while interior coho smolted after at least two years of freshwater growth. No obvious differences were noted between wild resident populations in the timing of downstream movement or the shift in salinity preference from hypotonic to isotonic and hypertonic salinities. Both of these behavioural responses typically occurred in the spring (April-May) of each year. Fyke net catches, however, sugqested that, in addition to the spring emigrations observed in both populations, a portion of the interior population migrated in the fall (November). No differences in the development of sodium regulatory ability were observed either within or between laboratory raised populations. Ion regulatory ability increased to a plateau in the fall and winter following emergence, and increased to smolting levels during the following spring (April-May). There were differences between coastal and interior populations in the pattern of development of both nocturnal current responses and the preference for isotonic or hypertonic salinities. Interior laboratory raised coho developed negative nocturnal rheotaxis and a preference for isotonic salinities about three months earlier (November) than laboratory raised coastal coho (late February-March). Within populations, no differences were observed in the ontogeny of these traits in the groups reared under different temperature regimes. Because these interpopulation ontogenetic behavioural differences persisted in fish reared under identical laboratory conditions, they probably have some genetic basis. Such an innate component in behaviour implies an adaptive role and in juvenile coho these behavioural traits may allow populations to use a variety of habitats at different distances from the sea, even though a major physiological schedule (in this case the development of ion regulatory capabilities) appears to be fixed within the species. Perhaps variations in migratory timing and salinity preference in juvenile coho evolved to assure survival in a relatively unstable and often severe environment by optimizing habitat use within the constraints of an overriding physiological schedule. / Science, Faculty of / Zoology, Department of / Graduate

The European Central Bank implements its monetary policy within the Euro Area -- the biggest project of monetary union in the history. This fact itself draws our attention and gives rise to the questions about the efficiency of the adopted steps in the scope of fulfilling the main objective -- price stability. However when evaluating the overall economic balance we are not only interested in price stability. This paper is focused on ECB monetary policy from a theoretical point of view as well as through comprehensive analysis of its practical effects on economic performance. External and internal balance indicators help us to evaluate the ECB's achievement from 1999 till now. Therefore we can see the origins of the current miserable state of the common currency not in the bad decisions undertaken by the ECB, but in the general conditions, which enabled the formation of the EMU on a very unstable foundation.

Vývoj vnější ekonomické rovnováhy ČR a analýza ovlivňujících faktorů / Development of the external economic balance of the Czech Republic and analysis of the influencing factors

The thesis deals with the development of the external economic balance and the influencing factors. It describes the development of individual accounts of the balance of payments from 1993 to 2010 and it mainly focuses on last years and on the time of financial and economic crisis. Consequently in accordance to the basic theoretical concepts, it defines factors which can influence the individual parts of the balance of payments, and it analyzes the mutual relations. On the basis of analysis of the trade balance, current account, basic balance and total balance it was confirmed that the Czech Republic does not have a high risk of external imbalance. But during the financial and economic crisis the external balance worsened, the export of goods and import of direct investment decreased, the balance of income worsened. It was also approved that the external and internal income significantly influence the external balance of the Czech Republic.

This Master's Thesis deals with attitude of women entrepreneurs to manage their time in relation to the balance between work and personal life. The main goal is to determine how women manage to fulfill different roles (entrepreneur, mother, wife, friend, etc.) and what rules or procedures they use to align all of these roles in terms of time. The theoretical part characterize the role of women in today's society, describe the definition of work-life balance and time management. Methodological part defines the list of criteria according to which I choose a suitable entrepreneurs for my research and also describes research methods for evaluating the data. The practical part examines a sample of 21 entrepreneurs from various specialization and interprets the results. At the end of thesis there are recommendations about time management obtained from the research and from the practice of female respondents.

Syftet med undersökningen var att undersöka hur arbetsrelaterad kommunikation utanför arbetstid samt privat kommunikation under arbetstid upplevs påverka tjänstemäns WLB. Studien genomfördes genom en kvalitativ metod där åtta semi-strukturerade intervjuer genomfördes med anställda på ett företag i Mellansverige. För att analysera materialet användes en induktiv tematisk metod. Utifrån resultatet hittades tre teman: Diffus gränsdragning mellan arbetsliv och privatliv (underteman Vilja att vara informerad samt Flexibilitet), Strategier för att begränsa sin exponering för arbetsrelaterad kommunikation och Privat kommunikation under arbetstid. Resultatet visade att arbetsrelaterad kommunikation utanför arbetstid möjliggör en god balans i skärningspunkten mellan respondenternas privatliv och arbetsliv förutsatt att kommunikationen kunde begränsas att inte störa familjelivet. Privat kommunikation under arbetstid hjälpte respondenterna att känna sig uppdaterade om vad som sker i privatlivet vilket hjälper till att skapa en god WLB hos respondenterna förutsatt att kommunikationen inte var för intensiv. / This study focused on individual experiences of work-life balance as it related to white-collar workers occurrence of work-related communication outside of regular office hours and communication from the outside world during the workday. The study was conducted using a qualitative method, eight participants participated in a semi-structured interview that focused on their individual experience of work-life balance. All participants worked at a company based in Sweden. The material was analyzed using an inductive thematic method. From the results three themes were constructed: Blurred lines between working-hours and private life (with Desire to stay informed and Flexibility as subheadings). The other two themes were: Strategies to limit exposure to work-related communication outside working-hours and Private communication during the workday. The results showed that work-related communication outside of regular working-hours improved the respondents work-life balance provided the communication could be controlled to not interfere with family-related responsibilities. Private communication during work hours created a sensation of feeling informed of the happenings in the respondents private-life which helped with their work-life balance provided the communication was not too intense.

A Comparison of Kinesio® Taping Methods for Subjects with Patellar Tendonitis

This project investigated the effects of Kinesio® Tape on pain, kinesiophobia, and proprioception in participants with patellar tendonitis. Thirty participants with patellar tendonitis were divided into three groups, the first received a supportive Kinesio® Tape application at the knee, the second received a facilitative application at the hip, and the third received both. A Visual Analog Score, Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia score, and a proprioceptive score quantified through the Biodex Balance System were obtained both immediately after application, and 24 to 36 hours following. Statistically significant improvement in VAS scores and in proprioceptive ability with eyes closed 24 to 36 hours following Kinesio® Tape application was observed under all interventions. Kinesio® Tape application for pain, cause of pain and proprioception may assist patients with patellar tendonitis.

Exploring the desired features of a family-friendly programme

Orientation: Rapid changes in the workforce, such as increases in working women and dual-earner couples and single parent families, have led to increases for both men and women in their work and household responsibilities. Employees who are unable to fulfil both work and non-work roles efficiently may experience problems with their health and psychological state, have reduced job satisfaction, burnout, higher absenteeism and work tension. In order to assist employees during these turbulent times many organisations have implemented family-friendly programmes to accommodate employees. The specific needs of employees in the South African context in terms of family-friendly programme seem to be unknown. Research purpose: The main purpose of this study was to investigate the receptiveness of South African working mothers towards a family-friendly programme and to determine the desired features of such a programme. Motivation for the study: Research regarding the use and benefits of family-friendly programmes was done in the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom and Asia. However, the specific needs of employees in the South African context in terms of family-friendly programmes seem to be unknown. Therefore, in this study, the focus will be to explore the receptiveness of working mothers towards a family-friendly programme, as well what an effective family-family programme might entail for them in the South African context. Research approach, design and method: The research was conducted using a qualitative research design within the interpretivism paradigm. A combined convenient and purposive non-probability sample (N = 11) was taken from working mothers employed at a printing and bar coding organisation in Gauteng. Data was collected by means of semi-structured interviews and analysed by making use of thematic analysis. Main findings: The results of this study indicate that working mothers experience work-life conflict and they would make use of family-friendly programmes if their organisations could provide these programmes. They would like features such as a day-care facility, transport service, flexible working hours, working from home, career guidance, a support group for parents and a baby room. Practical/Managerial implications: This research identified that there is a need for family-friendly programmes in the South African context. Such programmes can assist employees in reducing work-life conflict and, mostly likely, enhance job satisfaction and work engagement. Contribution/Value-add: This study can possibly create awareness about the need for family-friendly programmes in South Africa and provide management with insight about the desired features of such a programme. Terapie poruch rovnováhy s využitím biofeedbacku u osob s RS / Balance training using biofeedback in people with multiple sclerosis

The present thesis deals with the issue of balance disorders in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and the effect of individual balance training using biofeedback. It presents an overview of the current knowledge about MS - epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnostics, types, symptoms and treatment methods. The thesis also describes principles of balance control of the human body, balance deficits in patients with MS and physiotherapeutic treatment. The aim of the experimental part was to evaluate the effect of the Homebalance® system on balance in MS patients and its comparison with conventionally used sensorimotor training. A total of 18 people took part in the research, 9 in the experimental group and 9 in the control group. Standardized tests and functional scales supplemented by standardized questionnaires on balance and gait were used to objectively assess balance. Measurements were performed before and after a series of therapies. After treatment, a significant improvement (p 0,05) was found in some tests and functional scales, but in none of subjective patient reported outcomes. Exercise using the Homebalance® system may be a suitable alternative to classical rehabilitation methods used for balance training in people with MS. Work-life balance är ett väldigt aktuellt ämne eftersom organisationers arbetssätt ser annorlunda ut idag än vad det gjorde förut. Vi ville därför med denna studie undersöka olika definitioner av work-life balance och dess påverkande faktorer hos individer. Då jämställdhetsfrågan är en pågående debatt, valde vi att även undersöka denna studie ur ett genusperspektiv. Då vi under tidigare kurs läst om ämnet work-life balance där forskning visade att kvinnor har det svårare att finna sin balans, uppstod ett intresse från oss författare. Vi upplevde att tidigare forskning kring work-life balance ofta talade om att finna balans, men i vår studie valde vi att utgå från att balans är något som individen skapar. Syftet med studien blev således att utveckla en förståelse för hur WLB skapas och hanteras i en organisation. Där vi ville undersöka detta ur ett genusperspektiv. Där vår strävan var att belysa betydelsen av arbetsgivarens sätt att hantera arbetstagarnas work-life balance på ett meningsfullt sätt, både i nutid och dess framtid. För att få en djupare bild av hur man hanterar work-life balance valde vi att fokusera på en avdelning i en organisation. Semi-strukturerade intervjuer gav oss möjligheten att ta del av respondenternas upplevelser och erfarenheter kring hur organisationen hanterar work-life balance. Vi fann då att organisationen använde sig av olika verktyg och strategier för att främja work-life balance. Samt att organisationen visade en medvetenhet gällande att gränsdragning är individuell, vilket påvisades både i teori och empiri.
