'n Waarderingsperspektief van ouers se betrokkenheid by hul kinders se leerproses in 'n landelike omgewing / Melanie NelNel, Melanie January 2014 (has links)

Thesis (MA (Psychology))--Stellenbosch University, 2008. / In recent years, the issue of fathers’ involvement with their families has increasingly gained
support and currently more research focuses on fathers’ involvement and what fathers must
do to become more involved with their families. The aim of this study was to gain insight into
boys’ perception of fathers’ involvement in the lives of boys.
The participants were boys in Grade 7 and 8 whose parents are married and who both live in
the same house with them. The data of this explorative, qualitative study were gathered by
means of focus group discussions. The 18 participants who complied with the inclusion
criteria were randomly divided into three focus groups of six participants each. The groups
were asked an open question and the discussion was audio-recorded. The group discussions
were transcribed, after which the data were loaded onto the Atlas.ti program for analysis. In
this analysis technique, related aspects (termed ‘codes’, which are formed by related
quotations by participants) are grouped to form families (of codes).
Based on the description by Lamb, Pleck, Charnov and Levine (1987) of fathers’ involvement
and the qualitative data analysis, content could be given to the families responsibility,
accessibility and engagement. The family responsibility, which includes any activities of the
father regarding the child’s direct care or arrangements regarding the care of the child, is the
largest family in terms of number of codes and quotations. The most prominent code in this
family in terms of number of quotations compared to the other codes, is to provide. This is
followed by the codes discipline, set right and protect. Accessibility is the second largest
family and entails the father being present as well as his availability to his son. The most
important codes in this family are talking, to be there for the child and to pay attention to the
child. The third family, engagement, includes the experience of caring, direct contact and interaction between the father and his son. The most important codes that emerged in this
family are to demonstrate love and to hug.
The specific content given to the three components of fathers’ involvement can be applied
with success in the development and presentation of parent guidance programmes.

Die aard van pleegvaders se betrokkenheid by pleegkinders : ‘n verkennende studie binneChild Welfare TshwaneKirsten, Erika Christine January 2013 (has links)
Dissertation (MSW)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / gm2014 / Social Work and Criminology / Unrestricted

The role of perceived organisational support, diversity, engagement and burnout in the retention of employees / Talita SerfonteinSerfontein, Talita January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this study was to identify how organisational support, diversity, burnout and work engagement influence organisational commitment and turnover intention, and if perceived organisational support and diversity act as moderators to influence the outcomes of these relationships. A cross-sectional survey design was used. Data (N = 4,658) was gathered from a survey data archive that contains responses to survey questions as well as the demographical data regarding the respondents that was completed during wellness audits. The South African Employee Health and Wellness Survey (SAEHWS©) was used during the gathering of the data (Rothmann & Rothmann, 2006).
Statistical analysis was done by means of descriptive statistics and relationships were determined by means of the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients (Clark & Watson, 1995). Regressions were used to predict the outcome variables of turnover intention and organisational commitment and the interaction effects were plotted, using organisational support and diversity as moderators on burnout as well as engagement. Burnout shows a strong inverse relationship with both organisational support and commitment. A strong direct relationship exists between burnout and turnover intention. On the other hand, a strong inverse relationship was found between turnover intention and organisational commitment. It was found that engagement relates positively to enhanced commitment and support, as well as decreased turnover intention. Diversity is a statistically significant predictor but does not moderate any relationship. It thus directly influences turnover intention as well as organisational commitment. However, diversity problems were also found to be positively linked with symptoms of burnout as well as an increased turnover intention A strong inverse relationship exists between diversity problems and work engagement. Organisational support was found to moderate the effect of burnout and engagement on both turnover intention and organisational commitment and seems to negate diversity problems.
As conclusion, recommendations for future research are made.

Welman.Welman, Magdalena January 2013 (has links)
The study focuses on the role of water activities in the advancement of environmental literacy in grade six learners. The study is important as South Africa is experiencing a water crisis due to below average rainfall, overpopulation and poor management of water sources.
The implementation of water activities in primary and secondary school education is needed for the development of environmentally literate citizens who understand the connection between the environment, available water and poverty and who possess the skills to sustain water sources.
Environmental problems can be solved through environmental literacy (UNESCO, 1994:11). The purpose of the study is to determine how environmental literacy can be advanced by means of water activities carried out by grade six learners. The study is quantitative and a before- and after test questionnaire was used to compile data from an experimental and control group.
Five schools that are located near water sources took part in the research. The biotic water testing methods and light intensity measurements were used as water activities.
Active participation of learners in water activities contributed to the expansion of knowledge, skills and values regarding water in the environment. / Thesis (MEd (Curriculum Development))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2013.
