Contribution à la résolution des problèmes d'optimisation combinatoire : cas du problème des k-clusters dans un graphe biparti et du problème de sac à dos quadratique / Contribution to solving the combinatorial optimization problems : case of the problem of K-clusters in a bipartite graph and the quadratic knapsack problem

Al-Iedani, Najat Hameed Qasim 14 November 2017 (has links)
Since long time, the scientific world has sought for modeling, simplification and resolution of combinatorial optimization problems, because of these problems are most interest for the scientific and the industrial world and for the fields of operational research and computer science. The objective of this thesis is to solve the difficult combinatorial optimization problems using approximate resolution methods. And, we were interested on two important problems that find several significant applications in real world. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the K-clusters in a bipartite graph that has been applied in the field of telecommunication. The second part of the thesis addresses to the quadratic knapsack problem that can be used to accommodate a wide range of practical applications in numerous fields. On the other hand, these problems are highly combinatorial and difficult to solve from computational perspective. The K-clustering minimum bi-clique completion problem (K - CmBCP) was presented in the latest date and it is very significant in real world and it has been applied to several real applications such as aggregation of multicast sessions. Since telecommunication network cannot manage many multicast sessions at the same time, it is hence necessary to group the sessions into a limited number of clusters. We note that, the hybrid resolution methods can combine several approximate resolution methods or optimal resolution and approximate resolution and which generally use decomposition techniques of the initial problem to allow hybridation. In this thesis, we propose two hybrid resolution methods: A first hybrid method for the problem of K-clusters in a bipartite graph that combines a neighborhood search and a complementary algorithm. A second hybrid method for the quadratic knapsack problem which combines a large neighborhood search with a variable reduction / fixing method. The proposed algorithm is capable of solving the small, large and very large size instances of the QKP that cannot be solved by Cplex solver or by other methods

Empacotamento de bicliques em grafos bipartidos / Biclique packing in bipartite graphs

Freire, Alexandre da Silva 02 October 2012 (has links)
In this thesis, we study the Biclique Packing problem. A biclique is a complete bipartite graph. In the Biclique Packing problem we are given an integer k and a bipartite graph G and we want to find a set of k vertex disjoint bicliques of G, such that the total number of biclique\'s edges is maximum. When k=1, we have the Maximum Biclique problem. These two problems have applications in Bioinformatics. In this work we keep a practical focus, in the sense that we are interested in solving large size instances of these problems. To tackle these problems, we use Integer Linear Programming techniques. In order to evaluate the methods proposed here, we show results of computational experiments carried out with practical application\'s instances and also with randomly generated ones.

Moussa, Ibrahim 15 June 2015 (has links)
This thesis focuses on solving combinatorial optimization problems NP-hard using approximate solving methods. Two practical application areas are targeted here, firstly the general problem of vehicule routing network with a variant specifically with planning tours with a vehicle team, on the other hand the multicast session management problem on a telecommunications network, addressed by the broader perspective of clustering in a bipartite graph. Both applications are obviously of interest both from the fundamental point of view for the resolution methods that must always progress facing new challenges, from the point of view of potential industrial benefits. The resolution of such problems usually has two phases: initially it comes to define one or more mathematical models to compare possibly to choose the most effective according to the available resolution tools; secondly it is possible to use a generic resolution paradigm, such as a linear programming solver, or specialize an algorithm by including specific heuristics and knowledge to optimize its performance. This thesis is in this second approach. This is often necessary when the problems addressed become complex and / or large and that we need to be designing more efficient algorithms

Optimization-Based Network Analysis with Applications in Clustering and Data Mining

Shahinpour, Shahram 16 December 2013 (has links)
In this research we develop theoretical foundations and efficient solution methods for two classes of cluster-detection problems from optimization point of view. In particular, the s-club model and the biclique model are considered due to various application areas. An analytical review of the optimization problems is followed by theoretical results and algorithmic solution methods developed in this research. The maximum s-club problem has applications in graph-based data mining and robust network design where high reachability is often considered a critical property. Massive size of real-life instances makes it necessary to devise a scalable solution method for practical purposes. Moreover, lack of heredity property in s-clubs imposes challenges in the design of optimization algorithms. Motivated by these properties, a sufficient condition for checking maximality, by inclusion, of a given s-club is proposed. The sufficient condition can be employed in the design of optimization algorithms to reduce the computational effort. A variable neighborhood search algorithm is proposed for the maximum s-club problem to facilitate the solution of large instances with reasonable computational effort. In addition, a hybrid exact algorithm has been developed for the problem. Inspired by wide usability of bipartite graphs in modeling and data mining, we consider three classes of the maximum biclique problem. Specifically, the maximum edge biclique, the maximum vertex biclique and the maximum balanced biclique problems are considered. Asymptotic lower and upper bounds on the size of these structures in uniform random graphs are developed. These bounds are insightful in understanding the evolution and growth rate of bicliques in large-scale graphs. To overcome the computational difficulty of solving large instances, a scale-reduction technique for the maximum vertex and maximum edge biclique problems, in general graphs, is proposed. The procedure shrinks the underlying network, by confirming and removing edges that cannot be in the optimal solution, thus enabling the exact solution methods to solve large-scale sparse instances to optimality. Also, a combinatorial branch-and-bound algorithm is developed that best suits to solve dense instances where scale-reduction method might be less effective. Proposed algorithms are flexible and, with small modifications, can solve the weighted versions of the problems.

Graphes et couleurs : graphes arêtes-coloriés, coloration d'arêtes et connexité propre / Graphs and colors : edge-colored graphs, edge-colorings and proper connections

Montero, Leandro Pedro 13 December 2012 (has links)
In this thesis, we study different problems in edge-colored graphs and edge-colored multigraphs, such as proper connection, strong edge colorings, and proper hamiltonian paths and cycles. Finally, we improve the known $O(n^4)$ algorithm to decide the behavior of a graph under the biclique operator, by studying bicliques in graphs withoutfalse-twin vertices. In particular: 1) We first study the $k$-proper-connection number of graphs, this is, the minimum number of colors needed to color the edges of a graph such that between any pair of vertices there exist $k$ internally vertex-disjoint paths. We denote this number $pc_k(G)$. We prove several upper bounds for $pc_k(G)$. We state some conjectures for general and bipartite graphs, and we prove all of them for the case $k=1$. 2) Then, we study the existence of proper hamiltonian paths and proper hamiltonian cycles in edge-colored multigraphs. We establish sufficient conditions, depending on several parameters such as the number of edges, the rainbow degree, the connectivity, etc. 3) Later, we showthat the strong chromatic index is linear in the maximum degree for any $k$-degenerate graph where $k$ is fixed. As a corollary, our result leads to considerable improvement of the constants and also gives an easier and more efficient algorithm for this familly of graphs. Next, we consider outerplanar graphs. We give a formula to find exact strong chromatic index for bipartite outerplanar graphs. We also improve the upper bound for general outerplanar graphs from the $3\Delta-3$ bound. 4) Finally, we study bicliques in graphs without false-twin vertices and then we present an $O(n+m)$ algorithm to recognize convergent and divergent graphs improving the $O(n^4)$ known algorithm.

Booleovské techniky v reprezentaci znalostí / Boolean techniques in Knowledge representation

Chromý, Miloš January 2020 (has links)
Title: Boolean techniques in Knowledge representation Author: Miloš Chromý Department: Department of Theoretical Computer Science and Mathematical Logic Supervisor: Doc. RNDr. Ondřej Čepek, Ph.D., Department of Theoretical Com- puter Science and Mathematical Logic Abstract: In this thesis we will investigate switch-list representations of Boolean function and we will explore the biclique satisfiable formulas. Given a truth table representation of a Boolean function f the switch-list rep- resentation of f is a list of Boolean vectors from the truth table which have a different function value than the preceding Boolean vector in the truth table. We include this type of representation in the Knowledge Compilation Map [Dar- wiche and Marquis, 2002] and argue that switch-lists may in certain situations constitute a reasonable choice for a target language in knowledge compilation. First, we compare switch-list representations with a number of standard repre- sentations (such as CNF, DNF, and OBDD) with respect to their relative suc- cinctness. As a by-product of this analysis we also give a short proof of a long standing open question from [Darwiche and Marquis, 2002], namely the incom- parability of MODS (models) and PI (prime implicates) representations. Next, using the succinctness result between...
